You hear all the time that this one is strong in the force, hes strong in the force, shes strong in the force. What I dont get is that is this a dedtection of force in the person or is it that they see how well they can control and use it. And if it is a detection of force in the person, all that time Anikin was around Palpatine how come he couldnt feel his power in the force?

aww now i understand why even yoda wasnt able to detect dark side of the force within palpatine.
in movies and games we can only see the jedi training. no one knows for sure what things sith are being taught ;)
ofcourse in kotor1 we can see sith academy but it doesnt show too much.

to know something about the force you must be training for like 10 years at minimum. why? most of times jedi training begins at age of 6 or 8 (kid). they become a jedi at age of 20+ (aproximately) so like 10+ years of training.
having this in mind... with 10 years of training Luke > Sidious.

conclusion : i just written absolute nonsense :P

Very interesting theory... I agree with that. Luck is just the ability for somebody to realize an opening and take advantage of it as fast as they can. As for the midi-chlorians, essentially, it is just how well you are connected to the Force. It does not mean you have the mental ability to harness it into a usable form. Often, the most lethal attacks are not really strong - they just attack the weakest point.

Strength in the force is about tapping into ones potential. The "midichlorian" count (I agree that midi's were a bad idea with a worse name) indicates potential, training and focus would allow the force user to tap that potential.

As for detecting this gift, using a Sith as my first example: The Sith specialize in hiding their potential, probably some sort of Sith power that is used to mask thier power/skill entirely.

While the Jedi and the Sith for that matter...its is best put in the words of the Venerable Jedi Master Obi Wan Kenobi. "In my experience there is no such thing as luck." So those that are "fortunate" are strong with the force, at least stronger than most. Those trained in the Force can simply see (which is a sense) the sentient's fortune or luck and make the statement "The force is strong with this one." a statement saying that force is protecting and/or aiding them.

No, Luke just didn't know how to utilize the Force properly to fight Palpatine's Force Lightning. He hadn't trained for more than 4 years, albeit under Yoda, and he was able to fight against Darth Vader. That's quite an achievement.

Potential does not equal victory. It is a measure of raw power, but power means beans in a can if not properly utilized. Palpatine was more "powerful" than Luke, because Luke could not stand up to him, although Luke had the higher midi-chlorian count.

size did too matter had yoda been bigger he could of held on to that platform thing instead of fallin off. Also, they jedi were looking for a sith, and they did suspect palpatine. When ani finds out that palpatine is a sith, he said it was "the one weve been looking for". They obviously did suspect palpatine, since they wanted ani to spy on him. Palps was just smart and kept it hidden. Personally, i dont think the jedi can really (at least during ep 1-3) have the ability to detect force power. For instance, Qui gon had to find ani's midichlorian count to know he was strong. The jedis had to run tests on him before they could declare him "strong in the force". I think Palps was the only one who could truly recognize great power just by sensing it. I bet the jedi were slackin off.

well Qui-Gon must've sent something since he obviously took his midichlorian count? or do they do it to everyone they meet? and I've said this before, and I'll say it again: Midi-Chlorians DO NOT equal strenght in the Force! It's just potential!

Peace

And how do you conclude that?

It matters when your body mass is less than your opponent. Yoda, being smaller, was propelled further back by the explosion caused by Palps' force lightning.

Yoda's spewing of size not mattering is a sign of his arrogance. Size always matters, perhaps not directly, but there will be a factor where a certain size would have an advantage.

Once again... I don't like to refer to the books as canonical, because different authors write them. I really did not like the ROTS novelization, as the author was very biased towards the Jedi, seeming to favour the Sith, and changed certain scenes to fit his own plot.

And Yoda was more powerful than Palpatine. In the movie, the proof is there. Palpatine had to resort to Force tricks to stave off Yoda, as opposed to lightsaber battle. So, Yoda is the better duelist. In terms of Force Powers, as we saw, both were evenly matched, and Yoda was at a considerable disadvantage being smaller. Palpatine had to run away, and then finally shoot lightning at Yoda. It appears Palpatine has no other combat skill other than abusing Force Lightning, and even then, he could not truly hit Yoda with it.

Hmm, according to some stuff I've read, Dantius Palpatine aka. Darth Sidious, was about as strong in the force as Yoda, only difference that he had a kyber crystal which gave him more power, therefor making him stronger.. Now, midi-chlorians indicate potential to mold the force, and it's here where Anakin was superior.. While Yoda and Mace Windu were the wisest amongst Jedi masters, Anakin just had good promise..

And even if Yoda and Windu were incredibly strong in the force, they could not sense something like Palpatine.. My explanation would be that no Jedi, unless on a mission or with a purpose, tries to "scan" the minds of others, or tries to find out something like someone being a Sith.. The Jedi had no reason to suspect Palpatine, and no reason to "scan" him.. And with the Jedi's having no threat whatsoever for such a long period of time, as Yoda said, their ability to use the Force was weakened.. They started to rely on the Force telling them stuff, like "spider-sense" if you may.. So they didn't try to find out something like "who's the sith"..

Peace..

Once again, Yoda may have been more powerful, but it doesn't mean smarter, and it certainly doesn't give him the ability to sense cloaked Force ability. Palpatine was prolly the most cunning Sith Lord other than Revan, so I'm sure he knew Yoda's weakness - that is, his slight arrogance, and exploited it.
