Just heard about this, didn't see a thread about it.

Even in times like this the British police are mantaining their traditional incompetency.

Well, I just saw it in our own, national news this morning.. but I haven't heard of it before today, and when you give me a source I've never heard of before, I'm inclined to being very wary of it... this new situation, I haven't yet taken a stance to, except that "racism" is an exaggeration.

It's all over Reuters, MSNBC and all the major news sources.

I've been burned by the media before, of course, but between the "official" story that was put out initially and the ITV version of events, I'm inclined to think the later is closer to fact.

The media rushed to put out the official police version of the story without the benefit of being able to check the facts, and they took no risks by doing so. If shown to be wrong, any newsman can say, "These were the facts we were given. We reported in good conscience."

The ITV version of events differs firstly in that they have had time to do fact-checking and secondly in that they are really taking a risk. If their story turns out to be wrong, they really stepped in it, so I rather suspect that they checked the authenticity of their sources very, very carefully. ITV is a major network and doesn't want the kind of public humiliation CBS has recently subjected itself to with similar fiascos.

Seems like Miscommunication and a general lapse in concentration, but 1 incident in such times shouldnt pull the whole police down, yes it was a bad mistake and now them police officer's have to live with it for the rest of their lives.
Even tho they 'F**ked up' lets not tarnish the job they are doing to protect our country, 1 mistake shouldnt drag down the excellent job they are doing

How's it racism in any way or shape? If a white guy shoots a black guy (or, for that matter, the other way around) is it the epitome of racial hatred we're witnessing? If he hadn't run away, been a suspect, and do all this right after the bombings, he might be alive today. And his Visa was expired.

Sounds like the police got a little too trigger happy eh? THIS ladies and gentlemen is excessive force. I mean they have the suspect pinned, why shoot him? This seems to be bordering on racism, but i was never there, so I don't mean to judge.

There's a comedian named Mike Armstrong who has a similar experience that he talks about. He's a former cop, just a regular one no sniper. They were going into a house where there was some crook I can't remember if he was chased there or robbing the place but he had a gun. I complete 1 in a million shot, armstrong ends up shooting off the index finger of the guy.

Just wanted to add one thing here.

8 shots in the head is not necessarily exaggerated. It all depends on the number of officers in place. If one cop shot 8 times it would raise a few eyebrows, but if there were more cops there, I don't think they would stop for a round of rock-paper-scissors to decide who gets to shoot. They all shoot without too much hesitation. In that moment, it was either that guy or a train full of people.

Stuff like this happens quite often in Israel. An army unit clears a house in order to arrest a couple known terrorists. During the operation, a suspicious-looking man comes running out the neighboring house wearing a fat jacket. It's summer. Bang bang bang. He's dead. Turns out he was just scared and trying to run across the street. What would you do if you were a soldier in a similar situation, not even sure if you would live to tell the story?

It's usually over things like this that the media throws a fit of "Oh my god! Look what those butchers are doing! Killing innocent Palestinians!"

So before you judge the London police... No, don't judge.

And now, the moral of the story:
Don't wear padded jackets in freaking summer.

Following on from Javaguy's post, people saying that they could just shoot him in the arm or elsewhere to stop him triggering a bomb he may or may not have are wrong. Let's list locations:

Arm: Can still set off a bomb with the other.
Leg: Not gonna do much to stop him reaching over really.
Torso: Yeah, great idea, shoot him in the torso where this bomb is supposedly hidden.
Head: One death > 50.
