This might seem a rather selfish request but aren't most requests internally motivated anyways. I, and there are likely a few more, am Geographically Handicapped by the Jedi Academy. Huh, How, Why? Well there doesn't appear to be any classes that I can take that fit in to a schedule of a working stiff that does the 9 - 5 routine on the West Coast of the United States. This was the case before the purging of the Ranks and as the Knights and Trainers Rosters are repopulated the trend continues, which is why I bring this up. Now I fully appreciate the effort and time put forward by the trainers and the staff and would never ask any of you to sacrifice more of your time simply to fascilitate my advancement in Lightsaber skill. I am just wondering, and now typing, if there is any attention payed to the issue of Geography when choosing Jedi Academy representatives. Does the JA look to fill the needs of the global JA community or just those on the East Coast (USA) and Europe? Is there not one single player on or near the West Coast that warrants instructor status? EDIT: Gradius shows on his profile that he is in/from AZ, but must work an odd schedule or not work at all. How about a class around 2100 2200 hrs (9PM 10PM) for some nubes like me?) I love playing on the JA server, high skill and decorum are what attracts me to this organization. There is a gap in the training program though since it seems to cater to those living on or around the Atlantic Ocean. I simply cannot take a day off of work to polish my skills in Yellow Stance now can I!? Well I suppose I could but missing a day's work would cost me a couple hundred bucks and this is a game... I am sure that the Council has foreseen this and has a plan to tend to the issue, as I have been patient (8 months as a member and the only class I was even able to sign up for was on a Monday that was a holiday and the class never happened due to that holiday...) I just want to learn, in a class, the hints and tips I get along the way have made vast improvements in my technique, I can get a pub player pretty PO'd with the practice I have gotten here. I know the feeling. Although I don't have a full time job, when school starts up again it will definitely get in the way of taking classes. Hey pal, take it from a guy who's half a world away from the Academy. No offense, but be thankful you're in the same continent as most of the Academy. For me, even if I do not have to contend with time problems (most of the classes are at 2 am and 3 am in my time zone), I'll have to deal with lag. As such, I have never joined a class. Tough luck, I guess. Still, good manners is a good thing you can never get enough of, and, in the Academy, it is in abundance(even in the forums!). i live on the east coast but my work hours are from 6-2 and my job is a half hour from home. so they used to occasionally fit but my hours are changing on monday so that i start at 9 and dont get home till 5:30. so alot of classes wont fit to my schedual. I said no on the poll, even though I have attended a few classes. Most of it though has been due to my hectic schedule right now, which will change when RL classes start up for the fall. I do live on the east coast and don't mind the class times right now. I do think it would be cool to get some later times once fall comes around and maybe even some weekend classes too! Alriiiighty then, let me throw in my 2 cents. Yeah, I'm in your timezone, El. The only reason why I have my classes set for the east coasters and Eurpoeans is because if I had them set to my time, I would get countless "complaints" from about 75% of the students, who can't come because it's too late for them. The way I see it, it's better to please the majority. However, with that being said, that doesn't mean there will never be any classes fit for the west coasters. As of now, we're rebuilding the ranks BUT we're also rebuilding the classes. So, we're trying to get as many students in as possible to start it all off. This doesn't work out well for the earlier time zones. Ok to answer the first question. Yes we do concider timezones when chosing the ranks, and as you may or maynot be curently aware the ranks arnt filled just yet. Currently your not the only timezone without a JAT....as we formally dont have ANY JAT. We are actually currently addressing this and timezones will be concidered. JAT isnt a rank we just hand out on the spot so it may take some time to get a class in your ideal time, however until then if you would like me to cover classes in your tmiezone please post appropriate times (BST) and i will do my best to set up a couple classes for your side of the pond. Im sorry for your wait, although i do think this could have been addressed in a PM rather than a post on the forums, still no worries. Thankl you for binging this to our attention. My work schedule is pretty normal for this part of the world, sure I have had jobs that I started at 2PM got home at Midnight, but those jobs suck. an analogy: Prime Time Television. From 7:30 to 10PM every night we have "Prime Time TV" why is it called that? Cuz this is the time frame that most humans call thier "relaxing/entertain me time" now this time starts and ends at the same time regardless of time zone. I am guessing that "they" refers to the JA Council, uh umm, "they" are the Council they can do anything they want, can they not. They can demote everybody, they decide what can and can not be posted in these forums, they have the power and ability to do what ever they want, this whole thing (the academy) could quite possibly be wiped out by a decision from the Council. I suppose they would be limited by the availability of qualified individuals, I can deal with that (if it is indeed the case) that would be out of thier control. They definitely have control of who is and is not a trainer. What about your schedule makes it easier for you attend training? Do you have a family? Do you not eat and sleep at conventional times? Are you home by noon everyday? Do you work a full time job to live not just for spending $$? seriously though, I am not whining, I want training, I want it bad, and I have resorted to posting like this to attempt to get it, I am not going to upset the balance of my real life (and thus affect others just so I can get what I want) to get it, so I suggested that some attention could be payed to this problem on the global scale. I am sure that someone who plays everynight from 8 to 11 PST would love to be an instructor, lets identify these people and see if that have what it takes. Not up to me, that is what the Council does and they can have it, I have been in enuf "clans" and lead a few too, I don't want the job. I am petitioning for an Instuctor that could or would conduct training in the evening West Coast, USA time. I know I won't be the only one in these trainings shoot I guess I would even go for one on one training, but I really think that some group basics on movement and yellow stance would better prepare me for 1 on 1 _______________ “Arguing on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics.
