Bit of a technical hitch here! Apologies for the long post and if this has been mentioned before, I did have a look but couldn’t find anything – I doubt anyone has been as stupid as me in the past anyway! I deleted JA in order to reinstall (long and embarrassing story as to why! :p) but instead of using the uninstall I just deleted the C:\Programfiles\Lucasarts file from the hard drive. I know, I know - I am a dope…… Realising my idiocy I then tried to “Remove Programs” via Control Panel to rectify the issue. However, when I click on Repair/Remove, although the Uninstaller loads and it asks as usual if I want to remove all folders, it then doesn’t go on to ask whether I want to keep my save games files, it just says that it has performed maintenance on the program and closes. In other words I cannot delete the remnants of JA via the Uninstall. I have tried it from the Launch Menu, CD Setup file and Control Panel and it makes no difference. To make things worse, when I try to install the game again, the Launch Menu comes up with the play options – Single/Multiplayer etc and not the Install option that it normally does when you do not have it on our system, as I essentially do not. If I try to play Single or Multiplayer it will not load saying it is missing files – they obviously went with the Lucasarts folder. As a result I think there must be some files still on my hard drive that are telling the CD that I already have it installed but I have no idea where they are as I thought everything to do with the game was in the Lucasarts folder I deleted. I thought of two options; find the files that are telling my JA CD that I already have it installed and delete them or try to manually install the game from the CDs, if not to play the game then at least to try to give the Uninstaller something to delete if you know what I mean. With regard to the first, I searched big time and found nothing, I even defragged my hard drive in vain last night! I was hoping one of you guys might know what to look for?? As for the second, I tried copying the Gamedata file on Disc 1 to a c:\Programfiles\Lucasarts\Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy file that I created but the Uninstall will still only perform maintenance and will not delete. I plan on doing the same manual installation of all files from both discs to the manually created files on my hard drive tonight when I get back from work I am hoping that either this “full installation” will give the Uninstaller something to delete and that it will clear out any files my CD is recognising thus leaving me free to reinstall or that I will be able to play the game freely from this but obviously still not be able to delete it! Phew, what a story. I was hoping to pick all your brains to see if there is anything I have missed that might correct my situation or if any of you had done something similarly foolish and could tell me what they did to set things right and help me swing my saber again!? ![]() Ps Almost forgot, the CD is definitely not the problme as I tested it on another Pc last night and it worked perfectly! Quote: Oh boy, do I owe you guys a beer! Sweet, a BEEEER!!!! I'm glad I'm old enuf! The program you suggested worked a treat and as you all thought it was a registry issue. Registry fixes are not for the squemish or the un-initiated, that app you DL'd will handle 95% of needed Reg fixes without having to open regedit. I use that app to remove entries from the Reg whenever I uninstall an app. The other great app for this is Registry Mechanic, but it isn't free ![]() Peace _______________ “Arguing on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics. You need this there are a few pages to this app, just remove any and all references to Lucasarts, on each tab, making sure to hit the tab for "Uninstall" which will drop the Star Wars listing in your Add and Remove Progs list. Re-start when yer done. Reinstall the game. For goodness sakes do not reinstall Windows, thats what Bill Gates wants you to do. Quote:

I tried uninstalling from the little menu and that faield me too so it looks like registry is the way to go. I will have a crack tonight and let you know how it goes. Thank you all for your help, it is so cool that I posted my problem this morning and I hopefully already have the solution before I tuck into my lunch! ![]() This comment was edited by J'ann Kinree on Aug 16 2005 12:30pm. |

For the registry: First make a backup of your registry Start>Run>regedit then select My computer and do File>Export save it to somewhere you can easily locate it on disk. e.g. the Desktop. After that go here My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\LucasArts and delete the Star Wars Jedi Academy key... That should do the trick _______________ Get on your feet and do the Funky Alfonzo! |

Run the game from the CD so the little menu pops up asking which you want to play (MP, SP). Then, click on Options. Do you see Uninstall as a choice near the bottom? If so, try uninstalling from that. If it works, then you can install it again. If not, you'll have to delete whatever files are in Program Files -> LucasArts, as well as what's in the registry. Now, although I wouldn't recommend it until you've tried every other option, to get to your registry go to the Start menu, then Run. Type in regedit. That will take you to your registry, at which point just look in all HKEY directories, then Software for anything with the words "LucasArts" or "Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy" and delete them. _______________ - Proud padawan of Kueller. - We really are at the beginning of it all. Thanks for the help dude, I tried that (think I mentioned it in my essay :p)and I had the same uninstall problem - it won't let me remove it, just modify it! Sounds like this registry business might do the job though if somene knows where I can find it and how I should modify it? |

Oh, well I guess your best bet is to check the Add/Remove Program to see if the game is still in that list. if it is, try to uninstall it. That should take care of the registry too. _______________ Visit the Belouve Family Website! Quote: I try to have fun with my friends and try to make a difference as best I can. Thanks for your help Sete, where do I find the registry, do you know how I could edit it? I would have a crack now but I am stuck at work!![]() |

I believe all of the files are stored in the directory you installed the game to. Also, there are some things it sets in the registry when you install the game, which could well be the thing that is telling the Startup Screen that the game is already installed. |
