I just want to know if we are a religious people here at the JA. So what religion do you belive in if any? Personally I don't belive in it, but what are your opinion, and why do you belive in it if you do so?

Excellent point FadedGlory. I'm not religious as I believe it does more harm than good. There are a lot of out of date and dangerous notions associated with religion. I personally believe in humanity and it's potential for greatness(and evil unfortunately) regardless of whether there's a "God" or not. Therefore, what you've said still makes a lot of sense . |

if there wasn't any hardship (starvation, wars, suffering) people would never humble themselves. god gives us trials to remind us that we are still human. that we can't do it alone. otherwise we become so prideful in our success that we forget god and take the credit for ourselves. when it was god who gave us our abilities in the first place.
you may say there is no god because such a god would not be so merciless. but perhaps it is ourselves that need to be merciful. just a thought... |

I was raised Protestant Lutheran. But as I lived life and got to know the world a bit, I decided there is no god, at least not like mentioned in Christian teachings. I asked myself the same questions Bubu did(Why are people starving, suffering, murderous, etc.). The god they told me about in Sunday School, etc. doesn't do those types of things.
My feeling is this: If it gets you by, makes you stronger during tough times, etc. more power to ya. Just don't try to shove your beliefs down my throat. I think George Carlin sums it up pretty well. yes, but just because you have the power to kill the ants doesn't mean they have to worship and love you. on the contrary, if you gave the ants food and water, helped them build their hill, and protected them from bad weather, maybe then it would be reasonable to ask for at least some gratitude in return. _______________ make install -not war |

i think that if there was a god, why would he even bother creating the world? why would he bother with the animals, nature, man? why would he bother tricking some of us into believing in evolution, as you suggested? why would he make us hate each other? why would he let us die of hunger? why would he be so cruel? there can't be such a god. there just can't be. _______________ make install -not war |

Personally i don't (until god himself proves me otherwise) but here's an interesting view on the evolution theorem.
If there is a being so great that he/she could create the whole universe, he/she could very easily put some stones and skeletons on the right place in the ground and thereby creating the evolution...
