Geometry help...

My friend came up to me with this problem and it pretty much stumped me as I performed miserably in Geometry back in 8th grade.

Here's how the problem goes...

There was a knight and he had to rescue a fair damsel that was being held hostage by an evil knight. His obstacle was a notorious evil knight and his castle that held the damsel. The castle had no drawbridge and had a moat that was 20 feet across and full of piranhas and alligators.

Upon arriving at the castle spot, the knight found two sturdy beams made of wood suitable for walking across but lacking sufficient length. Alas, the moat was 20 feet across, but the beams were each only 19 feet long and 8 inches wide. He had no nails, screws, saws, Superglue, or any other method of joining the two beams to extend their length.

What to do? What to do? Fortunately, the damsel, after a suitable amount of time to allow the good knight to attempt to solve the puzzle on his own, called to the knight and gave him a few hints that enabled him to rescue her. What was the maiden's suggestion?

So that's pretty much the problem, any help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks again.

now ya see, the main problem with graphing differentials that involve the square root of imaginary numbers, it's a little like trying to parry a wiggle with a blue stance backslash.

moral of the story...calculus is like exploitz for math :D

rofl! can i learn this power? :P

the answer involves taking one of the boards and laying it diagonally (45 degree) across a corner of the moat and that allows the other board to be laid (perpendicular) from the first board across the moat. make sense? here's a crude diagram that might help...

There's tons of non-geometry related solutions i can think of............so do you know that the answer does have something to do with geometry?
