Deus Ex: Invisible War

just completed this again, and enjoyed it more than i did the first time. I played as a pacifist so i didn't 'kill' anyone (although a few enemies have a self destruct even if you just knock em out) which was loads of fun surprisingly, and not many games i have played let you have that dynamic.

Anyway having completed this and the original Deus Ex, i was thinking i'd like the Jedi Knight series to go in this direction, am open ended game that feels huge, with a strong plot and depth, of course it would have to have a really good multiplayer too, but i'd rather the series went this way than just continued as it is.

The JK series has become about more than just Kyle Katarn (although he's cool) its become the 'jedi' game (not including swg :P) and i think it deserves more depth to show that.

What are your thoughts on DE, and its gameplay relating to JK?

i doubt there will be a lightsaber in that game :(

yeah i know about oblivion, i'm not talking about FPS/RPG i'm talking about the future of the JK series and how i think it should adapt.

I wasn't directing it at the original topic! :P I was just merely stating, it will be awesome.

I've said my piece on the JK topic. Anything else i say here will be stringed off or in reference to anothers message.

yeah i understand mate, lol must of been loads of these JK4 type threads :P

Same with Jedi Academy, the JK series was about Kyle, and jk3 gave you the illusion that you had a choice in what you do.. when you really only have one choice. Good or bad, about halfway through. Even once you've done both of those its still not much different. Theres no feeling of the jedi really being you. Its just some guy/girl called Jaden who either turns out good or bad but in the end twats Marka Ragnos with his vwingatron.

Sure, there is alot you can do in the game, but just not quite as much as it could have. Its a good game, both of them, but if you converge JK and DE then you'll get an odd version of KOTOR in First Person.

We'll see...

What you say about JK is very true, and the main reason i started this thread, you don't feel connected with 'Jaden Korr' very much at all in 3, they tried to combine the previous games solo protagonist with customisation and it didn't work.

I do like the idea of going towards customisation myself, if done correctly it makes you feel very close to your character; however it needs to be done correctly and in my opinion give you vast amounts of choice. You should be able to choose your name, look, and other misc things and certain choices should affect the game in at least a small way.

Obviously the other main way to make you get involved with your character and the game, is through gameplay and narrative. FPS games have moved on a lot when it comes to single player in recent years, and a new JK game would have to show that by being more complex, in this case i have used the well known example of DX but i'm sure there are others out there, basically a game about a jedi knight whoever it may be, shouldnt be a run of the mill slasher/shooter it should stop and make you think, or challenge you in unexpected ways. In my opinion the next game should change almost everything gameplay wise, force powers, add proper stances, more depth to single player and characters, change the guns completey; many things but i'll stop for now.

Im usually that sort of person who prefers to go with the more "hands-on" approach. >_>
Thats why ive only rarely used any stealth or mercy in DX2 and only rarely used any arrows or destructive magix in fable.

...and yea ill go blind soon %)

woot, thats some information :D
thanks ill need it.

well you deal 1000-2000 dmg each hit , attack speed is insane especially with slowmotion and you need to ready your arrow to full power before it does 1500 dmg at max with bow :P
basically you do 5x or more dmg in the same time with teh sword... :) ive beaten a game with both berserker and acher so i know what im talkin :P oh and thats offtopic lol

hmm well i didnt find biocells hard to find if you want help with a pacifist/stealth type game go here

For agressive play don't worry too much about health, if you want you can instal the health regen biomod anyway and medkits are plentiful. Early on upgrade a sniper rifle, an SMG, and a Pistol make sure at least one has EMP dmg installed, later on you get things like rocket launchers which rock, oh the magrail is a handy emp/shoot through walls gun as well.

Also a tip if you get to the end, the most agressive option is to side with Leo Jankowski and kill everyone... :D

Anything else? Hmm multitools are worth their weight in gold, spare two slots for them if you can.

Ditto reserve two slots for energy cells.

The enhanced stregth biomod gives you more inventory room at higher levels.

boltcaster is great for stealth/pacisfit, three shots usually brings down an enemey after a short delay.

Riot batton is actually better than stun prod now, especially if augmented with enhanced strength, energy sword pwns with Enh Strgth as well.

Err havn't really bothered with the shotgun before tbh.

Use Ava Johnson as your pilot, she is free and has a better link with the story - of course its upto you but Sid Black is pricey.

EMP grenades are the only ones i found really helpful but the others can be cool on occasion if you have room.

Explore your surrounding carefully to make sure you don't miss anything important.

Spy Drone pwns at lvl 3 can knock people out in 1 or 2 blasts without them knowing its you, can be used while cloaked and takes down robots/cameras etc. in 1 hit, costly on Bioenergy though.

Oh and i'm sure beserk/slowtime was awesome, but Multi Arrow/Slowtime was incredibly fearsome in my opinion, most enemies never even saw what hit them :) including the final dragon boss :P

:o berserk+slow time and all strenght at max :o > all

anywayz are there anything in deus ex thats really powerful :P because if i go aggresive then its mostly - oh no i lost 3 hp more than i had to... reload -.- and if i go stealth then there are some other troubles like biocells...
and even then... this isnt a game like thief where you can find lots of places to hide... you can backstab either  not even straggle or something  lol

still working my way through Morrowind myself :) I agree it shares a resemblance with DX through its FPS/RPG combination, but as others have said its actual content is very different.

I only used Fable as an example of an open game that Mic described, he mentioned owning property and i knew you could do that in Fable.

Personally its one of these games strong points that they are not overly similar to each other, they are all unique in their own way :)

Morrowind is one of the games which gives you the ability to play beyond the ending. Morrowind and DX2 are totally different as well and i dont think you can say that DX2 is anything even close to Morrowind. The only thing which both games have in common is the first-person perspective and a few specific rpg-elements, nothing else.

you can still go and do lots of things.
though its a bit the same in the end - you still have to defeat the one and only final boss :P

ok im gonna install deus ex 2 again, any tips for total noob like i am? :D

w00t a convert :P hmm tips, well decide what you want to go for at the start its easier (stealth+pacifism or big guns and agressive killing for example) then just make the choices yuo will find most fun so you don't get too bored, err cloak is very handy but remember it dosnt work against bots, complete as many objectives as you can and explore to get the most out of the game.

hmm Mic i know what you mean, but a game like DX would find it hard to be completey open, its not a game like fable where you have a house etc. its based on a linear storyline in that you are correct, however you would be surprised the amount of choices in both games/things you can miss out on by doing different things. I only found out Paul Denton could survive the first game after i completed it, when my dad was going through it and did it differently for example.

thanks for tips!

anywayz you shouldnt compare it to fable...
more like morrowind or gothic series ;)

ok i've never played invisible wars but correct me if im wrong, isnt morrowind pretty much TOTALLY open ended? you can do whatever ya want. and invisible war doesn't sound like that

Hehe, yeah. I wasn't talking about the ending.. i was talking about the quests and aims and things. In the end, you have two little decisions once you get into the game. The beginning shows off loads of things that get thrown away as soon as you've made your choices.
