It's been a while since I released the Vlad tribute (last year) so I've decided to make a complete conversion of Virtue's (c) (r) Jedi Academy Version 2 (c) (r) map. I'm going to try and improve on the design (if thats even possible) and give it a complete over haul to see what the map would be like with better graphics. I would like some ideas and suggestions on improving the design and if possible for some one to make a blue print of the academy to help with the layout . Thanks for the help . Update 1: (15/1/06) I've managed to get a block map going with the basic details, the map also includes HDR (High Dynamic Range Lighting) which creates the bloom effect. Textures from Jk3 are being converted with full bumpmap, normal map and Env mask capabilities (it'll be shiny and have a bumpmap). Here are 2 images of the courtyard. http://zeke-azakura.conception-design.net/v2c0006.jpg http://zeke-azakura.conception-design.net/v2c0008.jpg Update 2: (19/1/06) The courtyard has been textured with full support for HDR lighting, the map has reflective materials (textures, called materials in source) with full support on bump maps and env masks (for reflectivity). First I must copy the original texture from the Jk3 directory (I extracted my Pk3's). Then I have to convert the texture to the VTF format created by valve for the source engine. After I have to create 2 more versions of the image, the bumpmap (normal map) and the env mask (which specifies how reflective the material is). The normal map/Bump map is created by a filter in adobe photoshop (A plug in by nvidia) and is easily created, all I have to do is put some settings in. In the next update the doors will be changed and a new room will probably be completed. Update 4: (24/1/06) As I said in the Last update, there will be a new room. If the map was to be completely successful I would have to recreate the Ceremonial hall (lukes room). The hall has been recreated greatly achitecture wise and at the moment is only lit by day light giving a pretty neat effect. Torches will be added to lighten the place up as it is in Jk3, there will be more torches (no more Candles!) than the original because of the complexity of the new engine. The many light sources should create a warm atmosphere and bring the old place to life. I reached a snag in development and had to redo the entire map, with it being done once before I managed it in little over 2 hours constant mapping and in so doing removed many bugs to create a smooth compile and map load. Many fixes include: Faster map load More detailed shadows No more "gloss door" effect, the reflection has been toned down and only shines as it should. Update 5: (22/2/06) After all this time I've managed to rebuild some of the courtyard. The frying of the Computer set me back a fair bit but I knuckled under to rebuild the 40 textures of the map in under a day . Update 6: (7/3/06) Again it was a while back since the last update but my Pc fried and I was helpless, never the less the new version is more like the original than any of the previous editions. This isn't of the actual map. This is only rough and may develop in to some thing better if I spend more time on it. Well been a while since i posted here and look what i have been missing! Very impressive tech demo Zeke, you have done a fantastic job, its looking great! Back online, new systems not as fast as I hoped, generally when a processor package says 3500+ amd athlon 64 it means 3.5 GHz (3500 MHz) not 2.2GHz (2200 MHz). Oh well, 64 bit computer BETTER improve it . Zeke |

Over the last weekend my computer got fried and all data and information on the hard drive is believed to be long gone, therefore it may be a while before the next update. I will be back online ASAP and look forward to get to work with a new system. Old specs: Pentium 4 - 2.4 GHz (socket 478) 512 Mb DDr1 Ram Ati Radeon X800xt pe - 256 mb 5.1 surround sound on board. 120Gb Hard drive. (SATA) 2 Cd and DvD Drive (one of each). New specs: AMD Athlon 64 - 3.5GHz 768 Mb Ram DDr1 and DDr2 4 Cd and Dvd Drives 120 Gb Hard Drive (SATA) Ati Radeon X800 Xt Pe - 256 Mb Most on the hardware has been salvaged from the now combusted motherboard.
