Jedi Academy V2 - Source Conversion - UPDATE 8 | |
Everon - Student - The winner!!! |
It's been a while since I released the Vlad tribute (last year) so I've decided to make a complete conversion of Virtue's (c) (r) Jedi Academy Version 2 (c) (r) map. I'm going to try and improve on the design (if thats even possible) and give it a complete over haul to see what the map would be like with better graphics. I would like some ideas and suggestions on improving the design and if possible for some one to make a blue print of the academy to help with the layout . Thanks for the help . Quote: Thats very nice, this could possibly be the first step to creating a JA mod when this game is just too old in the tooth for anyone to want to play. Good work and think about that ^^ in the future if you up to the task. I'm no coder, and that would take a lot of damn coding dude . Is there a coder in the house ? Zeke |

hmmm the map looks a bit dull... the shiny sky makes it a bit cooler but... hmmm i think v2 architecture doesnt fit source engine too well, its just doesnt look too nice . _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february. Quote: That stone door looks like it's got a glass coating over it or something... Hardly Ancient Temple like, lol. Good work otherwise, though. - Virtue. Aye, I know. I have to lower the envmap a bit to decrease the shine, is the door meant to be stone or metal? I put it as a metal in the propdata. Easily corrected. Source uses a VTF format for its textures not completely sure how they work tho. *Update released* Zeke |

Quote: I'll add a yellowish tint to the sun in the next media release so its more similar to the orignal. The grittiness is because the textures are more detailed, the q3 engine doesn't draw textures exactly as they appear on file. Source does, and the extra gittiness would be the bump mapping. The Doom3/Quake4 Engine compresses all the textures in to a DDS format, which is a compresed file format for use on graphics cards. I'm not sure what the source engine uses. _______________ When a Man lies he murder's some part of the world. These are the pale deaths which men misscall there lives. Looks great! Nice work my friend. On a side note, is it just me, or do the textures seem a bit gritty from afar? Is this intentional? Anyway, excellent work! - Valor _______________ Humans are slow, innaccurate, and brilliant; computers are fast, accurate, and dumb; together they are unbeatable. |

Still trying to stay faithful to the original, i will probably create 2 versions in that sense. |

you already told me that some time ago still you should change/increase number of textures if you want the source version to look 'improved'. _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february. I used to same textures on the vlads source memorial as the JK3 version. No changes were made besides the stone roof. |
SaZ - Student |
make use of more textures. when i looked at source version of vladarions memorial all those walls looked really... disturbing because they used the same texture ofcourse changin textures will most likely change the whole map but errrrm if you want to improve then its a must to increase number of textures. _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february.
