Well, this game comes out at the end of the month so i thought i would start a thread for it to see who else is interested in it. :)

For those that do not know, the Elder Scrolls games began back in 1994, and are the creation of Bethseda Softworks. They are Action/RPG's, set in a fictional world of Tamriel, and each game is unique in story, and location, sharing only small things in common plot wise, although they all add to the history of the games.

I had not heard of them, until 2002 when they released Elder Scrolls III:Morrowind for the PC, the game was enormous, and gave huge amounts of choice in what the player did, right from the character creation onwards. Needless to say i was impressed. Anyway the game spawned two expansions, and has become hugely popular online among modders, partly due to its unique construction kit released with the game. It has also since been released on the X-Box.

The New game is designed for the Next-Gen consoles (360 etc.) and of course is also coming out for the PC, for which the specs are:

Recommended
3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card

Minimum System Requirements
Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP 64-bit
512MB System RAM
2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
128MB Direct3D compatible video card
and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
8x DVD-ROM drive
4.6 GB free hard disk space
DirectX 9.0c (included)
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
Keyboard, Mouse

**Notes on requirements**
-There is currently no option to disable pixel-shading in the game, so if your graphics card has trouble with this you might have some problems. [Thanks to Masta for this]

The game is even bigger than Morrowind, literally huge in size and scope, and still contains all the customisation of the previous game (a lot more in fact), and its free roaming nature. The graphics are amazing. Also the Dev team have made the NPC's a lot smarter, using a new Radient AI program, which the producer refered to as a combination of Ultima 7 and The Sims, this results in some nice moments.

Unlock Print Screen (PRTSCN) button
There is a setting in the INI file:
bAllowScreenShot=0
change to:
bAllowScreenShot=1

There are two INIs, one in the game folder called "Oblivion_default.ini", this is the one it uses to generate the REAL one....
My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini

Edit the first one if you want to default to having screenshots on by default for all users. The settings it uses at runtime are the ones from My Documents folder.
After you mod the INI file, you can press PRTSCN button and Oblivion will write a BMP file to your game folder.
-To bring up the console press the tilde key (above tab)
-Typing TM into the console toggles hiding of all menus (for taking screenshots)

Available Factions/Guilds:
-Mages Guild [returning]
-Fighters Guild [returning]
-Theives Guild [returning]
-Dark Brotherhood [New](more 'evil' than the honourable Morag tong, shame i liked the MT)
-The Blades are back, again as part of the story [returning]

-The Arena [new] (lets you fight a variety of NPCs. Even after you have "completed" the Guild there will probably still be fights waiting for you at the Guild. You will also be able to bet on the fights that take place in the Arena.)

There are other factions although no others seem playable, they include the Imperial Legion, the Nine Divines (a temple group), The Mythic Dawn (Daedra worshippers), the Warf Rats (think Cammona Tong but smaller perhaps), and the Necromancers.

Updated
-There are other factions out there you can join, i don't actually know how many, but i recently joined one that was not one of the originals stated. These hidden factions are probably smaller overal than the Mages/Fighters etc. though.

Misc info
-Werewolves will not be returning initially although you cannot rule out another expansion.

-Vampires however are back, and with a new biting animation ;)

-Spears, throwing weapons (e.g stars), and crossbows have been removed.

-Each of the 9 major cities has a house you can buy and have for your own. You can go around in town and buy different things to decorate your house with, so you have places to put all the stuff you collect. One of the houses that you can purchase is initially haunted.

its certainly no where near morrowinds length, also not remotely difficult if you made a good character, if you made some dodgey pregenerated character and didnt have a clue how to play i guess it could be hard.

however i did find the end part hard since i was high lvl and all the mobs were insanegod

I completly agree.

Oh and, although the mainquest was kinda short and...not as fun as morrowinds at times, i still think it had its very epic moments. Especially the very end =x

I just finished the dark brotherhood, fighters guild and arena quest lines, and I have to say although the main storyline is way off morrowinds standard, the side quests are much much better and less generic than in morrowind.

i doubt its usefulness if you have security as your major skill.

Skeleton Key is a daedric artefact give by Nocturnal (i believe, will double check in a mo) You must be at least level 10 to attempt the quest.

Edit: I was correct Quote:
When you return with this to the shrine, Nocturnal is delighted and rewards you with the Skeleton Key, an unbreakable lock pick that also grants you +40 to your security skill. One of the most useful items in the game!

lol, a full vampire has a 75% fire weakness i believe, couple that with heavy fire damage during daylight hours and you'll be sleeping a lot during the day, gets annoying to have to sleep all the time and my char didnt use alteration at all.

Each time you advance in vampirism, youll gain a boost in stats and new spells etc. So if you dont manage to feed in a day and go to sleep, youll get a weird nightmare and youll see something like "vampire attributes added" in the upper left corner. In order to reverse the stage of vampirism, simply just feed on someone.
You can also check the "active effects" tab for all the buffs and your current stage of vampirism. It usually increases/decreases in 25% steps from 25% to 100% in 4 stages.

Well, youll get decent stat boosts and become resistant to a few spells including paralyze and all sorts of diseases. How much your stats get boosted depends on how often you feed. The less you feed, the more of a vamp youll become, which means that youll eventually receive sunlight-damage and generally wont be as popular amongst other people anymore. However, the very first stage of vampirism doesnt have any disadvantages at all except maybe weakness to fire. Compared to the stat boosts, additional spells and increased resistance towards diseases etc, the weakness to fire debuff is nothing.

Youll advance through the stages of vampirism each night you dont feed. So if you feed each night, youll get a small portion of the advantages, but wont suffer from any disadvantages.
