Well, this game comes out at the end of the month so i thought i would start a thread for it to see who else is interested in it. :)

For those that do not know, the Elder Scrolls games began back in 1994, and are the creation of Bethseda Softworks. They are Action/RPG's, set in a fictional world of Tamriel, and each game is unique in story, and location, sharing only small things in common plot wise, although they all add to the history of the games.

I had not heard of them, until 2002 when they released Elder Scrolls III:Morrowind for the PC, the game was enormous, and gave huge amounts of choice in what the player did, right from the character creation onwards. Needless to say i was impressed. Anyway the game spawned two expansions, and has become hugely popular online among modders, partly due to its unique construction kit released with the game. It has also since been released on the X-Box.

The New game is designed for the Next-Gen consoles (360 etc.) and of course is also coming out for the PC, for which the specs are:

Recommended
3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
1 GB System RAM
ATI X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card

Minimum System Requirements
Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP 64-bit
512MB System RAM
2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor
128MB Direct3D compatible video card
and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver;
8x DVD-ROM drive
4.6 GB free hard disk space
DirectX 9.0c (included)
DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card
Keyboard, Mouse

**Notes on requirements**
-There is currently no option to disable pixel-shading in the game, so if your graphics card has trouble with this you might have some problems. [Thanks to Masta for this]

The game is even bigger than Morrowind, literally huge in size and scope, and still contains all the customisation of the previous game (a lot more in fact), and its free roaming nature. The graphics are amazing. Also the Dev team have made the NPC's a lot smarter, using a new Radient AI program, which the producer refered to as a combination of Ultima 7 and The Sims, this results in some nice moments.

Unlock Print Screen (PRTSCN) button
There is a setting in the INI file:
bAllowScreenShot=0
change to:
bAllowScreenShot=1

There are two INIs, one in the game folder called "Oblivion_default.ini", this is the one it uses to generate the REAL one....
My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini

Edit the first one if you want to default to having screenshots on by default for all users. The settings it uses at runtime are the ones from My Documents folder.
After you mod the INI file, you can press PRTSCN button and Oblivion will write a BMP file to your game folder.
-To bring up the console press the tilde key (above tab)
-Typing TM into the console toggles hiding of all menus (for taking screenshots)

Available Factions/Guilds:
-Mages Guild [returning]
-Fighters Guild [returning]
-Theives Guild [returning]
-Dark Brotherhood [New](more 'evil' than the honourable Morag tong, shame i liked the MT)
-The Blades are back, again as part of the story [returning]

-The Arena [new] (lets you fight a variety of NPCs. Even after you have "completed" the Guild there will probably still be fights waiting for you at the Guild. You will also be able to bet on the fights that take place in the Arena.)

There are other factions although no others seem playable, they include the Imperial Legion, the Nine Divines (a temple group), The Mythic Dawn (Daedra worshippers), the Warf Rats (think Cammona Tong but smaller perhaps), and the Necromancers.

Updated
-There are other factions out there you can join, i don't actually know how many, but i recently joined one that was not one of the originals stated. These hidden factions are probably smaller overal than the Mages/Fighters etc. though.

Misc info
-Werewolves will not be returning initially although you cannot rule out another expansion.

-Vampires however are back, and with a new biting animation ;)

-Spears, throwing weapons (e.g stars), and crossbows have been removed.

-Each of the 9 major cities has a house you can buy and have for your own. You can go around in town and buy different things to decorate your house with, so you have places to put all the stuff you collect. One of the houses that you can purchase is initially haunted.

-go Here to find basic info on the skills in ES:O

well basically i got in to oblivion gate of skingrad and cleared two towers of mobs. got to the upper levels of them both and the only thing i found was connecting a bridge between them? so wtf? how do i close the gate now? does that mean that in this plane there are like 10 towers like those?

If you mean the skingrad gate in relation to the main quest then:

Skingrad

Another difference here, speak not to the count at first, but to one of his
stewards, Mercator Hosidus (unless you killed him during the mages
guild quests) or the argonian Hal-liurz.
Speak to them and explain the situation, and they'll set up a meeting with
the count.

You might think this odd? The count is a vampire so he doesn't show
himself too often lest he be detected.

Speak to the count to hear the same story you've heard before, close the
gate for support. The gate is located to east of castle Skingrad.

Once inside you'll see two smaller towers and a large third tower which is
across a pool of lava. Your first step is the two smaller towers, at the top
you'll find switches that will activate a bridge across the lava, leading to
the actual Sigil tower.

It's basically fighting your way past daedra again, activating the switches,
in the main tower it's the same, fight your way up and touch the sigil
stone to close the gate of oblivion and re appear near Skingrad.

Return back to the count, report your success and he'll agree to aid
Bruma.

EDIT: In case you didn't guess this was taken from the link already provided in my topic post, at the gamespot FAQ's section for Oblivion.

I agree, i loved the description of this bit in pcgamer, they described their experience as something out of Indiana Jones, and i agree, sadly i was not strong enough to get out of there by force on my original playthrough, not enough magic protection, so i sacrificed the guy on the alter and most left.

However on my current playthrough when i get there its Indi time!

Well you can just kill him instead of giving him all your possessions. However, youll miss out on the great masters speech if you do that =x
I had to punch the guy to death after the speech in order to get my stuff back, which wasnt as that challenging really. Most of the guys in the room are spellcasters anyway...

And yea, these mythic dawn guys dont drop anything good unless they are pure mages with potions etc. I still slaughtered every single person in their hideout, mainly because they had to pay for all the damage they did to the empire. >_>

You have to pickpocket, or kill the guy you went in with, i forget his name, all your stuff is on his person. However its really hard to get out of there alive without killing the guy.. i have to admit on my original playthrough i sacrificied him for the greater good (most leave then).

Well, i was more referring to the geographical size of the landscapes. The lore indicates that Vvardenfell is only a "small" province of Morrowind, and its area is supposed to be 5x smaller then Morrowind itself. Logically, since Cyrodiil and Morrowind are approx. the same size, Cyrodiil should be 5x bigger then Vvardenfell.
Ingame, it appears to me as if Cyrodiil would be equally (if not SMALLER) in size, which is a shame. I understand that it would be technically kinda hard to make Cyrodiil appear 5x bigger then Vvardenfell though...

As for the quests, i actually seem to favor the ones which bring you to bizarre, weird and/or completly "different" places. ***SPOILER*** So quests like helping out a certain vanished painter, recovering the orb of vaermina in arklay's tower or helping out a guy who was trapped in his own dreamworld, were particulary interesting side-quests to me. Most of the faction-related quests were very cool as well, but i wouldnt call them side-quests really. >_>

You make some interesting points Masta. I loved Aldr'uhn's crazy crab shell houses lol, i was actually a member of Redoran, although i would of gone with Indoril if it had been possible. Vivec was great as well, i also thought Mounhold from Tribunal was nice. When they say 5x larger they are including dungeons, buildings and cities, the landscape is vast, if you think right from Layawiin to Anvil and Chorrol.. a big difference is the fact you have roads in it, the roads on Vvardenfell were just pointers to new places, in Oblivion i have noticed they are much more direct and you get attacked a lot less while on them. Overal i have found the random dungeons of Oblivion to be much bigger than Morrowind's also, and the cities are all fairly big, at least aldr'uhn in size, compared to the random sizes of vvardenfall.

Oh and you should give your top three side quests you have discovered, with a spoiler tag of course, but would be interesting to see what you put, i've found some very interesting quests and i am nowhere near as far into the game as you.

I also miss the architecture of Morrowind

although morrowind and cyrodil are parts of the empire of equal size, morrowind had much more variety in architecture. thats a bit weird considering that dunmer are very unfriendly to outlanders thats why there shouldnt be any varienty in architecture. now in this imperial part of the empire there is big variety of races but... only imperial and ayleid architecture.
Its kinda funny that Vvardenfell (the province of Morrowind on which you travel in TES3) seems practically equally big (if not larger) then Cyrodiil, even though Cyrodiil is supposed to be 5x the size of Vvardenfell.
Anyways, i think the main cause for this big variety in architecture on Vvardenfell are the three Great Houses. Remember how Ald'ruhn, which was the main residence of the rather warlike House Redoran, favored a more irregular and spacious type of architecture, while the main residence of the sorcerers from House Telvanni had very bizarre mushroom-like buildings. Dont forget House Hlaalu which was more mercantile-oriented, thus prefered simpler, more modern settlements, and of course the Tribunals religious center which was the city of Vivec, with lots of bridges, huge canals and its more monumental architecture. Add the imperials and ashlander nomads and youll get 6 different cultures already.

However, since Cyrodiil bears the very heart of the empire, i guess its kinda expected to see a very great imperial presence in all of the cities, which probably greatly influenced the architecture and lifestyles of its inhabitants. This is especially evident in the forms of religion present on Cyrodiil. Notice how every town has the very same "chapel of the nine", and how the majority of the population apparently worships the divine. Also, notice how almost no daedra-worshipping is present on Cyrodiil, and how the very few daedra-worshipers live way outside of any settlements/towns, therefore actually emphasizing the degree of influence which the empire had on the people of Cyrodiil.
