Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion *Spoilers* | |
Alex Dkana - Staff |
Well, this game comes out at the end of the month so i thought i would start a thread for it to see who else is interested in it. For those that do not know, the Elder Scrolls games began back in 1994, and are the creation of Bethseda Softworks. They are Action/RPG's, set in a fictional world of Tamriel, and each game is unique in story, and location, sharing only small things in common plot wise, although they all add to the history of the games. I had not heard of them, until 2002 when they released Elder Scrolls III:Morrowind for the PC, the game was enormous, and gave huge amounts of choice in what the player did, right from the character creation onwards. Needless to say i was impressed. Anyway the game spawned two expansions, and has become hugely popular online among modders, partly due to its unique construction kit released with the game. It has also since been released on the X-Box. The New game is designed for the Next-Gen consoles (360 etc.) and of course is also coming out for the PC, for which the specs are: Recommended 3 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor 1 GB System RAM ATI X800 series, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series, or higher video card Minimum System Requirements Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP 64-bit 512MB System RAM 2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 or equivalent processor 128MB Direct3D compatible video card and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver; 8x DVD-ROM drive 4.6 GB free hard disk space DirectX 9.0c (included) DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card Keyboard, Mouse **Notes on requirements** -There is currently no option to disable pixel-shading in the game, so if your graphics card has trouble with this you might have some problems. [Thanks to Masta for this] The game is even bigger than Morrowind, literally huge in size and scope, and still contains all the customisation of the previous game (a lot more in fact), and its free roaming nature. The graphics are amazing. Also the Dev team have made the NPC's a lot smarter, using a new Radient AI program, which the producer refered to as a combination of Ultima 7 and The Sims, this results in some nice moments. Unlock Print Screen (PRTSCN) button There is a setting in the INI file: bAllowScreenShot=0 change to: bAllowScreenShot=1 There are two INIs, one in the game folder called "Oblivion_default.ini", this is the one it uses to generate the REAL one.... My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini Edit the first one if you want to default to having screenshots on by default for all users. The settings it uses at runtime are the ones from My Documents folder. After you mod the INI file, you can press PRTSCN button and Oblivion will write a BMP file to your game folder. -To bring up the console press the tilde key (above tab) -Typing TM into the console toggles hiding of all menus (for taking screenshots) Available Factions/Guilds: -Mages Guild [returning] -Fighters Guild [returning] -Theives Guild [returning] -Dark Brotherhood [New](more 'evil' than the honourable Morag tong, shame i liked the MT) -The Blades are back, again as part of the story [returning] -The Arena [new] (lets you fight a variety of NPCs. Even after you have "completed" the Guild there will probably still be fights waiting for you at the Guild. You will also be able to bet on the fights that take place in the Arena.) There are other factions although no others seem playable, they include the Imperial Legion, the Nine Divines (a temple group), The Mythic Dawn (Daedra worshippers), the Warf Rats (think Cammona Tong but smaller perhaps), and the Necromancers. Updated -There are other factions out there you can join, i don't actually know how many, but i recently joined one that was not one of the originals stated. These hidden factions are probably smaller overal than the Mages/Fighters etc. though. Misc info -Werewolves will not be returning initially although you cannot rule out another expansion. -Vampires however are back, and with a new biting animation -Spears, throwing weapons (e.g stars), and crossbows have been removed. -Each of the 9 major cities has a house you can buy and have for your own. You can go around in town and buy different things to decorate your house with, so you have places to put all the stuff you collect. One of the houses that you can purchase is initially haunted. -go Here to find basic info on the skills in ES:O Sources and links: Gamespy preview Gamespy - Trailer Elder Scrolls main site Wikipedia Oblivion entry Waiting for Oblivion.com Electronic Gaming Monthly Preview Detailed Oblivion FAQ Team Diary entry - from this link you can find various detailed entries about combat, magic etc. FAQ link -Gamespot FAQ's -IGN walkthrough Reviews -PCGamer March/April - 93% -Official X-Box magazine March/April - 9.5/10 So anyone else looking forward to this game? Or are the PC requirements or style putting you off? Discuss Edit: Removed much of the basic info, if you would like to know about something post in the thread, and our dedicated team of Oblivion players () will probably be able to help you out. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? that fast travel sucks a bit because... well i used mark and recall for escaping or some other things... like place recall while being on big house then go to the ground piss someone off run to the house i marked, recall and rain fire on them bwahaha so... too bad thats removed lol alexander maybe you heard something about skill acrobatics? is it still the same (idiotic imo) like in morrowind? and if this true... then it sucks... : 'So all the old ones back again, one thing to note is for Khajiit players - you now play as the Cathay-Raht breed, who are more elven in appearence and wear boots etc. No more clown feet.' _______________ playing jk3 since 30th of january (2005), member since 1st of february. Quote: Pre-ordered it today, and nearly killed myself going into the shop with my crutches. But yeah, gonna pick it up on the release day. Can't wait, its going to own! And as far as the map thing goes, I hear that the "major" cities are accessable via "fast travel" on the map, but anywhere else involves going there on foot first before the fast travel option becomes available. I hope the Imperial Legion quests are as cool as Morrowind. My Nord rocks. Haha well better be careful, don't want to injure yourself more severly Yeah i could probably phrase the fast travel explanation better, i just pulled a quote off a preview, from what i have heard you are correct, it works a bit like a mobile mages travel service that activates once you have been somewhere or something. From what i have heard, surprisingly (for me anyway) the Legion and Imperial Cult/Temple will not be playable factions, nor will one of the main 'houses'/dukes, the Blades are there and look cool, but there are definetly less playable factions than i thought there would be, if this is the final list anyway. Edit: A better explanation of fast travel taken from Waiting4oblivion.com "Also, there will be a fast travel system in the game. Basically, you can use the fast travel to instantly get anywhere you have been before. Also, you can immediately get to any of the nine major cities even though you haven't been there before. However, you cannot use the fast travel when you are in an interior cell or in combat. When you do use the fast travel system the time in the game still moves on. So even though you are instantly taken somewhere it could mean that hours if not days have passed in the game. So if you are poisoned and use the fast travel you might end up dead. Further, your skills won't rise if you use fast travel. So basically, you'll be missing all the training you'd get if you'd run or walk instead." _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? Quote: Yeah there is some form of map travel included now, Map travel sucks unless you'll have to cast a specific spell. True, personally i didn't have much of a problem with the traveling in MW, not once i had gotten used to Mark/Recall and the interventions etc. however i can see why they might be making it more accesable, especially as the new game is much larger than MW. I've been reading an FAQ on the official forums that is filled with information, if you want to know anything that isn't answered above then go Here. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? I'm afraid not Mini, the only systems it is being released for are the 360 and the PC at this time. Gil: Yeah there is some form of map travel included now, which along with the horses makes travel faster, but as you say its such a nice looking game it will be nice just walking everywhere. Bleh no mark and recall I did read on the site though that overall it will be easier to travel around quickly. Looking at the screenshots though I'll probably walk everyhere just cos its do damn pretty. Its a shame the other marksman weapons are gone but if the improvements to bows are significant enough then it wont be much of a loss. _______________ |JAA| since 02/05/06 Green for life |

Quote: bloodmoon ftw hmmm i read everythere i could about oblivion but i didnt find any info about vampires or werewolves. anyone knows anything about them? im no the fan of underworld or whatever movies its just they were very enjoyable to play... totaly different game experience Yes i keep meaning to try Bloodmoon. Hmm i havn't heard anything, if it is anything like Morrowind, it is possible they will not make any official anouncements about them even if they are there, as (correct me if i am mistaken) they did not state vampires would be playable in Morrowind until later, Werewolves were obviously the big thing with Bloodmoon though). I will have a look around and see if i can dig anything up, i'm still anaware if they have stated all the races will be playable again, although i'm guessing they will be, i have not seen any screens of Dunmer for example. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? Quote: I'm gonna get this on the day of release, and take it and my Xbox 360 away with me! Hopefully when i'm off work i'll be eating, sleeping, and playing Oblivion. I've actually picked up Morrowind and started playing it again. God I love that game. Started a new game on Sunday and i'm now a lvl. 6 Nord with immense heavy armour and long blade skills. Think i'll go for the same kind of character in Oblivion too! Hehe cool, and yeah i have been playing it recently as well, when my net went down again i started finishing off some things with my Dumner, and finally got round to trying out the Tribunal expansion. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? I won't know for sure until i get to the character creation questions etc. but i'm thinking of another Dunmer or a Bosmer if their faces don't look so silly this time around. I'll update the thread once the game is out with more info etc. I've been looking forward to this for quite a while as well, and have already ordered the collectors edition () it just looks so good! Anyway in Morrowind i used first a Khajiit theif, but i didn't do that well so i restarted after a while as a Dunmer, in what i called the samurai temp lol. Basically i was stealthy but wore most armors classes, and weilded for the most part a deidric Katana, and the one you get off the boethiah quest. Anyone know if all the races are back?
