HELP NAME THE NEW "JA KNOWLEDGE PROJECT"

(In case anybody is wondering, I'm putting this post outside the old thread and our new forum to grab the attention of those who wouldn't normally go in there...)

Well folks, we seem to not only have some forward momentum with this Project but also the blessing of the JA gods, so it now seems appropriate to put out the request for a formal name.

We've been using "Knowledge Project" as a general term, but would like the JA membership input. Several suggestions have already been put forward:

The Jedi Academy...
...Holocron
...Database
...Archive
...Handbook
...Guide
...Knowledge Base
...???

What do you think? Like any of these? Have some other ideas of your own? Please provide us with some feedback on this thread. We'll leave it up for a while and count up votes for what the general membership seems to like best.

We appreciate your help.

I'm already working on JKIV... :D

j/k. You bet. That'll be more of a work-in-progress, tho, as the JA experts will have a slight learning curve flushing out all new stuff.

Great. Glad to hear you've been thinking about linking the two together. Perhaps Ulic's work could get linked in here too. Is there anyone else within JA that is doing... uh... extracurricular activities? Perhaps the Holocron will be the place where we could logically link all of it.

As a matter of fact, I once suggested that to Jake, I think it would be good to have a link to one another in order to attract more people to one another as well as make them easier accessed like you said. I'm for the idea.

Oh Rauc- On completion of your Knowledge Project for JK2, will there be one for JK3 when time comes the release of the game?

Luke- Oh! I see. You know...that thing might be cool to link into the Holocron. (WHOOPS! I just used that word "officially" for the first time! Sorry MoS!) Since there's going to be a link to it in the left JA frame, if we put a link inside the Holocron to the Archive, then more people would be able to access it easily. Your thoughts?

Oh no no, I was saying the "name" Archive is already in use at the moment. :)

Plus it's not ONLY stories. It's information on anything regarding "Star Wars". Whereas your focuses on JK2.

EDIT: I'd go with Holocron

Yeah luke yours looks good, with stories and stuff, ut ours is gonna be more like the manual that was never made :D. We're gonna try and be as detailed as possible. We'll start off covering pretty much everything, and then with later additions go into more specific stuff, which a lot of people won't be interested in, like advanced tactics for other game modes (how to own at jedi master :P)going in depth on EVERY single saber swing, its damage, its range, what its good for, if its more liekly to perform a random counter, stuff like that.

LOL! Sorry MoS...didn't mean for you to take it that way!!

Luke - Maybe I read it your post wrong, but that Archive appears to be slightly different from this Project we're working on. Do you have a link to the Archive itself so we could view it?

Looks like "Holocron" is the general preference. Unless a bunch of other people put their two cents in here and change the vote-count, that's gonna be it. Sorry Aeth... ;)

But we'll at least give it a few more days...

MoS, run the final count on Friday, would ya? Perhaps DJ can make the appropriate name change on the Forum over the weekend. Thanx.

Thanks for the info. I can see how there would be two ways of looking at it. Hmmm...

*thinks*

Well, there's a lot about the SW universe and galaxy that *wouldn't* be in here (e.g., anything on starships, planets, trade routes, different species/races, etc.). In that way, the Archive isn't quite all-encompassing. Perhaps Holocron *would* be best because it would contain a more limited amount of knowledge, which would be one of many Holocrons included within that Jedi Temple Archive you described.

Archive/holocron question.

The Jedi Temple Archives contained possibly the single largest source of information in the galaxy. Within the polished architecture of the Temple, incredible amounts of data were stored electronically and holographically. Jedi scholars and investigators used the carefully organized data to aid in their studies or their missions.

The temple archive contains more than one holocron(including Sith holocrons, though few are aware they even exist).
So, to be accurate to the SW universe the knowledge project should be called some sort of archive and the different sections called holocrons.
Then again all the info could be kept on a single holocron couldn't it?

Hmmm....

I only know what a Holocron is in JK2 and Galactic Battlegrounds. But "Jedi Academy Holocron" is my vote.

And for Silencio, we'll call it the Holobong! Whenever you smoke it, you gain more Jedi knowledge, and the munchies!:D

Hmmm... Aeth, I read "I, Jedi" and it seemed as tho Luke et. al. were using an old Holocron to get information about the past Jedi teachings. From this perspective, I understood Holocron and Archive to basically be the same thing. I liked Holocron because it was more grounded in SW lore. Could you expand on your interpretation of Holocron? A tool, yes, but a tool to access an archive. (Or am I wrong? I'm not sure now.)

Does anyone else have a good understanding of what a Holocron is?

Uhm, personally I don't like holocron. Holocrons are tools, like a book. It covers just a small part. An Archive includes several holocrons in the SW universe. An Archive is for everything, a holocorn is just a small box.
And in "reality" it's called Archive as well.

So my vote goes for Archive :)

Holocron is one of the game modes, so its not all star wars, its the game as well.

You could go as far as saying that if you didn't know anything about star wars you wouldn't know what a lightsaber was, or the force. Trust me, the name holocron fits in with all we're aiming this to be.

The only problem with that libaryscene pic of the holocron is that its a sith holocron :S

If you know anything about holocrons(star wars theory here) then you'll know that sith holocrons are usually pyramids, whilst jedi holocrons are either cubes or octagon kinda shaped. I'm sure no one would mind that much though, as theres a but of evil in all of us }:)

The hologrong.jpg sort of fits in with our current site theme. The libraryscene one is real pretty though.
