So, North-Korea has a missle lined up for fire ... The US threatens that North-Korea should remove it, or action will be taken, while North-Korea replies that it has a right for a missile with which to defend themselves against America. Cold war? Quote: Unless America makes a way to defend against nukes, fighting North Korea directly is suicide. The results would end up with America as one big mushroom cloud and North Korea the same. Chances are though, even as think as the North Korea leader is, even they wouldn't pick a fight with the top military country. Yeah no sorry. NK was aiming at Hawaii, and their missiles failed within 40 seconds. America would not be harmed by anything North Korea could throw at us. We also did activate our missile defense system and it would be interesting to see how that works in a real situation, not that I actually want that to occur. Which means North Korea would be te nuclear wasteland, we wouldn't. And the only ones claiming North Korea has a nuclear weapon is the North Koreans. They also have a very large military, and likely are aware that a lot of our military is currently occupied in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bumped because I think this topic could use more discussion. Anyway, I was talking this over with a friend over dinner last night and we got this great idea going on in our heads. First of all, China, a "critical ally of North Korea", in one of thier bluntest statements to date, has officially told NK that testing thier arsenal would be 'a bad idea.' So we figured, just in case China doesn't start tugging on NK's leash enough to get them to stand down, why don't we just turn to Japan and say, "Ya know guys, we think its about time you re-armed." Pull our troops out, and help them re-build thier standing army. I swear, it would make every country within a thousand miles defecate in thier legislature. edit:// On an unrelated note, the materials used in fueling said missle would undoubtedly corrode and decay the the housing and internals of a Taepodong ICBM in a matter of days. SO, even if this fueling did take more than three or four days to complete (I'm no rocket scientist, ask someone here thats in the military about it), then the rocket, unless emptied of its fuel, (thus an abandoned launch) would be falling apart by now. If I'm completely wrong on this, please let me know. _______________ I'm crazy, not stupid. This comment was edited by Sared on Jul 03 2006 01:00pm. |

HAHA LOOK AT US WE HAVE NUCLEAR WEAPONS! SUCK ON IT! From the outside looking in, thats what NK seems to be saying. Seeing as how involved the US got in Afganistan after simply going after Bin Laden, does there lay the possibility that we would get just as involved in NK should a skirmish happen there? Also, what of South Korea? The DMZ is arguably the most dangerous place on the face of the earth, with enough firepower parked on both sides of the border to easily start WW3. Is NK just itching to egg SK on into something? edit:// Very good pictures Buzz, I'll be referring that link to quite a few folks. _______________ I'm crazy, not stupid. I don't think the missiles are being developed for use but more for the purpose of trying to gain some ground militarily with the US. I think most of the world knows that it would be suicide to attack the US but the North Korean government can be crazy sometimes so you never know =). |
Buzz - Student |
I don't think we need to let North Korea do anything. We'll see how things go. You might be right on the massive casualties, but only maybe. I think it would depend on 2 things. Involvement of China, and how well we have identified their missile launch sites and air fields, and how quickly we could knock them out. As for their new missile, the BBC's estimates seem to be on the coservative side. The AP reports the US believes different. And that puts a danger to more. _______________ When you are going through Hell, keep going. -Sir Winston Churchill. The have a missile capable of hitting Alaska, but no further into North America. Link Of course if they attack first, all bets are off. If any country is to take military action first, my guess would be Japan from the recent strongly worded press releases. However I think the USA et al will do pretty much anything to avoid this happening. War with north Korea would without doubt be a war with a casualty count higher than any other in the modern era, and quite possibly the majority of these being civilians. My personal opinion is the US, UN will have little choice but to allow North Korea to continue with a nuclear weapons programme. On what terms they will allow it is what could be interesting. EDIT: some very interesting pictures on that link by Buzz, definitely worth checking out _______________ |JAA| since 02/05/06 Green for life This comment was edited by Gil-Galad on Jun 20 2006 01:07am. |

Your theory goes right out the window thought Gil, if NK attacks first. I doubt if they have a missile capable of hitting Hawaii, let alone the continental US. Well, the US wont go to war against North Korea. War is not an option at all in this case. 10 million people live in Seoul, in South Korea, and its within bombardment range. North Korea is also well armed and militarily very strong. Economic sanctions are a no-go also as it has pretty much cut itself off anyways, and the only people who would suffer from it are the peasants who are on the verge of a mass starvation crisis as it is. So this one is for diplomacy to resolve. Its going to be very interesting to see how this plays out. Just hope no innocents are harmed before it ends. _______________ |JAA| since 02/05/06 Green for life |
