Quote: Once again the loss of tone is proved the internet's downfall. I thought LOST fans would be interested to know that a certain TV channel was thinking about setting up their own radio network and that they might have a show about lost where people who were interested could discuss it and share their opinions and 'conspiracy theories'. I also added, in what I thought was a non-serious way, that I personally, was not interested in the program. I'm sorry if my ambiguity causes offence but I'd rather keep the shades of nuances in english and risk the odd misunderstanding. Offence? Noone has taken offence Lirael. I am sorry if you felt my post in any way suggested i had taken offence, however i believed the sheer fact i mentioned Eastenders would show i was also speaking in a non-serious manner. I like Lost. The second season has had its ups and downs, fortunately ending in a huge up. They've started production on the third season and added Henry Gale to the cast, which should be interesting. Lianiotte said: Quote: The first season was okay. The second season went downhill at an alarmingly rapid rate. They introduced horrible nonsense like the hatch and the bald guy imitated Mel Gibson in saying, "Maybe there aren't any coincidences?! ROFL OMGzz!" Both these things (the Hatch and the 'bald guy', meaning Locke) happened in the first season, not the second. Quote: The characters are too stupid to realize that they can live in the hatch forever. Hell, it even goes so far to have a WASHER AND DRYER. There are even exercise machines. No - in fact, no one lives in the Hatch. The computer was patrolled in shifts by a very small group of people - everyone else was living on the beach, and for a very short time in the caves. At the end of the second season, a single character spent all of his time in the Hatch, but that ended with the final episode. Quote: You can't walk down the beach and see one single average Joe. While this can partially be disputed (Michael? Hurley?), the real question is whether you would want to watch a cast made entirely out of average Joes. You're a big roleplaying fan, Lianiotte - I'm sure you wouldn't be interested in characters without a backstory? Quote: Don't believe any positive critic reviews of Lost. Look at Rottentomatoes.com. 95% of them said that Lost in Translation was a good movie. That just shows you how stupid critics are. I really liked Lost in Translation, as did many of my friends and - so it appears - many people worldwide. Regardless, just watch a few episodes of Lost to find out if you'll like it - but start with the first episodes, because otherwise you'll be, well, lost. It's definitely a series that appeals to a specific audience. |

I love Lost tbh and have watched every episode. I don’t download them, I am happy watching them as the are shown on TV. The points people have made have certain foundations, here’s my views. “Doesn't go anywhere” - To a degree it's quite slow paced but I feel the program has more than enough twist and OMG moments to keep me hooked. “Spends time showing irrelevant flashbacks”- I love this part getting to know how people became who they are and explaining why they make the decision they do. Also it teaches you first second etc can be wrong we evolve and become different people depending on life experiences. Like most shows you either like it or don’t if it’s the later you tend to find more wrong with it. My wife doesn’t watch it anymore as she has been swayed by others and started questioning aspects of the show. Fav Character - Sawyer- a man who wants to be hated but sometimes forgets. Quote: I'm proud to say i've never watched a single episode. How can you be proud about not watching a television show? I despise Eastenders but i don't give myself a pat on the back for missing it every week.. Sure you can use the old 'critics are stupid' argument, but it dosn't wash with me personally. Some critics give biased or inacurate reviews, or even just plain simple bad reviews, not all critics everywhere. Personally i quite liked LiT.. What was your big problem with it if i may ask? Lost is a case of a lot of opinionated people wanted to say what they think about it, both positive and negative. I'm not going to go on about how much i like it, because at its core its still just a tv show. However it is one of the few to make me watch tv recently, and i happen to enjoy it which is all that matters to me. I will agree that overal the second series was a step backwards, but it was still better than a lot of reality tv/soaps etc. out there. I have never seen Grey's anatomy myself, so i cannot comment on it, however i have heard mixed things about that show as well, it happens to all shows, very rarely will you get a show that gets across the board acclaim from everyone that comments on it, more commonly you will find things a large amount of people vocally critisize. I have to stick with the fact that in Lost's case i have heard few arguments that are based on anything other than personal opinion (both for the show and against), in fact it is more often the positive comments that actually give actual reasons as to why it is a good televison show, rather than "the hatch is stupid", or "there are too many questions, i don't like it". I have waffled too long, regardless i respect both sides opinion, despite being an obvious fan of the show, and personally often accept critisism of the show should it be obvious, and not just opinionated. Oh and Lianiotte, i enjoyed watching the strangerhood back when it was first starting, i kinda forgot about it though, thanks for the link. /endwaffle _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? It's terrible. I won't even watch Six Degrees because they will fill it with horrible nonsense that doesn't make a crap of sense. The show really DOESN'T go anywhere. It's just filled with a bunch of flashbacks that are completely irrelevent to the story. Sure, in the first season it's interesting to see how they got stranded on the island, but in the second season when they show you flashbacks every couple of seconds that nobody cares about, I just glared at the screen and said, "I hate TV." The first season was okay. The second season went downhill at an alarmingly rapid rate. They introduced horrible nonsense like the hatch and the bald guy imitated Mel Gibson in saying, "Maybe there aren't any coincidences?! ROFL OMGzz!" I was happy to see that Will was kidnapped because I wouldn't be forced to watch him go, "OMG! Don't go in the hatch! O_O O_O O_O" Making him psychic like that just introduced MORE horrible bullsh...rimp. The characters are too stupid to realize that they can live in the hatch forever. Hell, it even goes so far to have a WASHER AND DRYER. There are even exercise machines. The next season will probably completely destroy the series even further (like there's any good parts left to destroy) by saying that it was the house of one of the crew members, and if they just walked down the OTHER side of the beach, they will find a road leading back to the main part of Hawaii. Too many of the characters are superhuman. You can't walk down the beach and see one single average Joe. When you actually DO find one person that fits the role of average Joe, it just so happens to turn out that she was in a mental institute for being borderline insane. Don't believe any positive critic reviews of Lost. Look at Rottentomatoes.com. 95% of them said that Lost in Translation was a good movie. That just shows you how stupid critics are. You guys should watch the Strangerhood version of Lost, if you haven't already. It's funny because it's true. Now, if you want to see a show that's actually good, watch Grey's Anatomy. _______________ slorp |

Quote: The thing I heard about LOST is that nothing ever happens. There is no real forward momentum to the show. To be honest its really a show you have to experience, you can't just trust stuff you hear. Most people either love it or hate it - a bit like marmite. As Monteee said some people find the plot confusing, however it can't be too bad, as myself and everyone i know who watches it (and most like it in all honesty, except for about 3/4 cynical friends) find it easy to grasp, they tend to enjoy it for the characterisation, and the quality of filming - it is an extremely well made show, i have seen quite a few and as a media student i have some ability at analysing them (im no tv critic but i know a bit). I like it, i must admit i would say i am biased towards it, it has actually had a positive affect on my life for a start as much as a television program can, and the whole concept appeals to me. However i am not a complete fanboy or blinded to the faults when they do show, there were more in Season2 than in 1 in my opinion, one too many unanswered questions before the last episode (which was very well done), and i don't even mind the many questions! There is though nothing major i dislike with the show. Now i won't write a whole essay about why i think Lost is a good show, people who don't like it tend to have their minds made up anyway. Regardless i did not start watching the show until last christmas and it wasn't until about episode 11 that i got hooked. But i was hooked. As to wether the scenario has been done too many times before, well how many times has space opera been done? How many stories about elves, goblins & Orcs etc. do we have in fantasy? How many police dramas are on tv? How many reality tv shows? And so on. Everything is repeated, and we have not had a truely quality shipwrecked/stranded style show in a while IIRC. Not only that but if you take the time to delve into the story of Lost and its characters, then you will find its much deeper than most shows in that vein. Most people i have spoken to compare it to Twin Peaks, the prisoner, or other cult shows. Anyway i have rambled too long, Mindrith knows how much i can go on about it Thats just me 25p. Edit: Oh yeah and about 24, loved its first two seasons, got bored during season three, and must admit i have not bothered to watch seasons four and five despite being interested a couple of times. It was a wonderful concept originally, but i felt it was really losing it in S3. Elish Cuthbert is hot though Again just my opinion. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? Lost is pretty boring in my opinion, lots of build-up and nothing to look forward to, like Buzz said. With 24, it's pretty much the same thing every season, shocking first moment where someone dies, then Jack Bauer is mad and kills the bad guys, then some personal stuff with Jack, then he goes off and finishes off the bad guys. Too implausible, the guy has too many chances to save the world, but hey, what's T.V. if you can believe it? |
