How about a yellowstance 'course?'

Hey there :) I've drawn up a class plan for a Medium Stance Course, and Id like to check out any interest for this in the first place.

Details about the course
There will be five sessions in total, each lasting either 1 or 1.5 hours. I've yet to decide. It's gonna take you from a beginners to an intermediate level. The main aim of this course is, that anyone attending will be able to fight any stance of the single saber succesfully. (Don´t expect to beat everyone using a single saber; you'll just 'know' what to do and will have practised these techniques to some degree.)

Rules
It's gonna be slightly different from other, existing 'courses.' I'm planning on some extra rules, which kind of make me wonder if this entire idea is feasable. Anyway, here I go:
- Anyone who enrolls in the first session will be should show up for every session. (So you won't learn something randomly, but there's actually structure to it. :)) After the first session took place, no new students will be able to enroll;
- Expect some minor 'Homework,' as you may be asked to go practise some things for next class. I'll keep this to a minimum, since I know you guys have a life :P

Now, don't worry if you miss out on a session, or 'didnt do your homework.' You may need to catch up to be able to understand the next sessions, though I wont kick you out or something :)

Pros and Cons
Hopefully, this course will help you a lot. Compared to stand-alone classes, this course will have more structure to it. You'll be practising on a regular basis too. That´s a necessity to learn any skill.
However, it also requires you to attend every time and spend some time between two classes to do some ´Homework.´ If a JAS wants to join in after session one, it won´t be possible. So that's the other side of the deal..

Is there any interest in this? Or would you prefer some stand-alone classes as they are and learn some things left and right as you aren't required to show up every time? Feel free to provide any kind of feedback please :)

P.S. Don't worry, I won't be deleting any of my classes yet. :) (And I might not even if this course were up.)

As a single sabre duelist, I think these classes are great. To bad I signed up a tad late, otherwise I'd jump in. ;P

Thanks for the input, guys :) Thing is, courses work better than stand alone classes. It provides more structure and is on the whole more clear. Moreover, a course will require people to attend every time, which means you will be training frequently. If you want to learn a skill - any skill - regular training is a must.

But indeed, it would require people to show up on a regular basis. Not everyone can do that due to RL scheduales, or simply don't want the commitment of having to come. That's why Im not sure if the entire idea is feasable in the first place.

Again, I'd be happy to teach you guys how to use a staff, or blue stance.. if I only could :P We need JAK+ that are able to use this and are working on it. We're not trying to emphasize yellow on purpose; we just have a shortage on other styles. But yeah, more JAK+ are on the way even as we speak ;) (Okay, MAYBE I can do a blue class, but Ill have to check my skills/knowledge on that first and learn some more. Id like to make sure what I teach, is true.)

Again, thanks for all the input. Im seriously wondering if a 'course' like I described it would work at all.. since not everyone can make it and wouldnt get a proper training. On the other hand, stand alone classes may be able to teach people something, but wont have the same effect as a course would. So Im still thinking about this :D

I think Yellow stance already has the most emphasis in terms of styles for the community and wouldn't really benefit many people in terms of variation. I think something along the lines of a blue stance, staff, or dual class would go a long way, seeing as there aren't any classes that focus on them.

Also, I think that the stand-alone classes would be better because that way, there won't be the whole "Oh hey, I missed last class, and I'm here this class, but I have no idea what's going on" deal. I'd imagine it would be quite a hassle.

or students could just find you some other time and ask for a quick version of the class.
you could also teach your paddies to do that for you
if it gets annoying and stuff.

ways of janus for the win i guess...

Yeah good point :) I can just let them tag along if they know what's taugt in the first few classes, or if they'd like a specific class in something.. if they have to start from scratch it wouldnt be of any use to them anyway :P Thanks, ill take it into consideration.

Oh yeah, the system seems pretty decent. However, i don't think forbidding students attendance who didn't show up to the very first week is a good idea.
I think the way Janus used to hold his classes was pretty cool. He used to write down the attendance aswell, and hold a sort of "exam" at the very last week which only students could attend to who had visited a certain amount of his classes already.

Heh, Id do that since theres indeed a shortage on staff/duals. But yeah, I dont teach that. Thanks for the heads up though, I think Artoo's working on a duels class as we speak, not sure. We indeed need more Staff/Duals JAK+ :)

It's not so much the content though, but the system Id like to get scrutinized :P

I'd rather prefer a duals/staff class instead of another yellow stance class tbh.
