Secrets of Star Wars '07 **New Force Unleashed Info** | |
Alex Dkana - Staff |
This is a thread for discussing anything relating to Lucasfilm/arts upcoming plans for the Star Wars franchise, incorporating video games, books, both television series, and comics.
I am trying to compile all the known information and rumour about the project. Currently the plans for it seem to include: -Live Action Television series. See Ian Jandos' thread about this here. -The 3D Clone Wars Television series. -'Star Wars: Force Unleashed'. This is the next gen game due out in Spring 2008. It sees you playing Darth Vader's secret apprentice (you will have a name eventually) who is hunting down Jedi and such. It promises revolutionary game physics, great graphics, and amazing force powers. -It appears that the game will be 'unleashed' on: PS3, XBOX 360, PS2, DS, and PSP. Its still possible it will be released on the PC and even the Wii (although this is unlikely in my opinion), as the Official Site merely states 'Next Generation platforms'. Quote: Highlights at a Glance
* During the period between Episodes III and IV, players hunt Jedi in the role of Darth Vader's Secret Apprentice. * Unleash and upgrade the Secret Apprentice's four core Force powers -- Force push, grip, repulse and lightning -- throughout the course of the game, and combine them for ultra-destructive, never-before-seen combos. * Examples of unleashing the Force in ways never thought possible: The Secret Apprentice won't just Force push enemies into walls -- he'll Force push enemies through walls; The Secret Apprentice won't just Force grip foes to throw them aside -- he'll Force grip them in midair, zap them with lightning, then drop them to the ground to explode like a bomb. * In addition to new adversaries created just for the game, such as fugitive Jedi and Force-sensitive Felucians, players will also confront and associate with familiar faces from the Star Wars films, including Darth Vader. * Visit locations such as Episode III's Wookiee homeworld Kashyyyk and the floral Felucia, the junk planet Raxus Prime, plus an Imperial TIE fighter construction facility. * Decisions made by players throughout the game will determine the path of the story, including multiple endings that will rock Star Wars continuity as they know it. * The Force Unleashed is LucasArts' first internally developed title for next-generation consoles, and it represents the first in-game collaboration of talents and technology between LucasArts and Industrial Light & Magic, two companies now finally under one roof at the new Letterman Digital Arts Center in San Francisco's Presidio district. * The Force Unleashed debuts Digital Molecular Matter from Pixelux and euphoria behavioral simulation from NaturalMotion Ltd. * LucasArts is preparing an unprecedented promotional effort around the launch of The Force Unleashed, encompassing a full line of toys and game-based action figures from Hasbro, as well as a full publishing program from Dark Horse, Del Rey and Palace Press. -A novelised adaption of The Force Unleashed. Written by Sean Williams due in November. -The Force Unleashed graphic novel! -The Coruscant Nights series of books. -The 'Dark Times' comic series. [It seems likely that the Comic series, the Coruscant Nights books, and of course the adaption will all be connected in some way to The Force Unleashed as part of its huge promotional tour de force] I believe thats it currently, but i expect there will be more. A SWG expansion probably Here is a video showing a montage of most of the current artwork released by LFL on the various projects. Its pretty good. -Pre-Vis video for The Force Unleashed, on google vid cos youtube was down when i typed this. -Promo poster for Force Unleashed, Clone Wars 3D, and the Live Action series - seems Fett will play a role, and it will be released sometime in '09. -A gallery depicting force unleashed characters as action figures - seems it will feature Vader, and some Jedi among others. -Here are some pictures taken from the Gameinformer article about Force Unleashed. -Starwars.com statement for The Force Unleashed. -First look at TFU. -Interview with project lead of TFU. -The Force Unleashed Official Site You can find the latest trailers and promo's here. -Wii anouncement -Celebration blog Discuss. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? Call me crazy but i'm actually going to put forward the theory now that this game will be released on schedule and yet will be a very enjoyable action adventure game possibly even with some twists on the genre conventions. There are rumours that you will be able to gather a party of some sort for example.
Its also confirmed it will have alternative endings and one official ending. This is probably an unpopular theory here, and i know about LA's intervention with KotOR2, however where would we be without a bit of blind faith in the people that made the creation of this place possible occasionally? _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? You do not seem to realise quite the weight of expectation on this game. While here at TJA it hasn't attracted much attention, it sure is getting it elsewhere. Also LA while i agree from reliable on most occasions, are making a big effort with this one, and it is supposidly going to have an immense promotional campain. In fact it would be crazy for LA and LF to much this one up as they are advertising this game and media project as their big thing of 2007, and even the future of star wars - if they delay until 2008 (the year they have earmarked for the release of the clone wars animation) then it will be a huge mistake on their part, one i'm not sure even they will make. Nim cool link, i like the stormies Oh and by the way its not confirmed that its not coming for the PC, and i wouldn't be surprised if it did even if not at launch. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? Quote: Decisions made by players throughout the game will determine the path of the story, including multiple endings that will rock Star Wars continuity as they know it.
I just knew that LA wouldn't miss out on putting in choices for the player in the main story Should be interesting to see what the big surprise Big George has in store for us plot wise. Quote: Unleash and upgrade the Secret Apprentice's four core Force powers -- Force push, grip, repulse and lightning -- throughout the course of the game, and combine them for ultra-destructive, never-before-seen combos.
Anyone else think that four force moves isn't many? Oh well hopefully there will be others not listed there, and maybe you can get some really unique combos or something. Just seems weird when even JK I had loads more than that, it makes me think more Episode III the game than JK... Main character sounds interesting too, dark from the start, with a hidden identity. Wonder if this game will be entirely dark story wise? _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? Quote: theforce.net has just posted this article about the next gen game and action figures. It seem that the game might be called 'Force Unleashed' or at least it's working title anyway. And the figures are from the game, which I'd say may explain the Yoda pic you posted Alex.
What ever it is it looks awesome, I hope they show alot more at C4. *EDIT UPDATE*Just found this Boba in 09 w00t. Dude check out my previous post, and the thread post. I've already posted that boba image and most of that info. Thanks for the link to the complete article though, i only linked to the original force.net thread. Sorry double post but information about the Force Unleashed game has appeared. Not sure how reliable the info comes from, its from a German games website found here.
Quote: - The Game comes to PS3 and Xbox360 with a release date of November 2007 (USA)
- The story is set between III and IV and is about Vader's attempts to bring down the Emperor, using an apprentice (you, the player) to fulfill his plans. The reasons for Vader are that he realizes Palps betrayal of dragging him to the Dark Side, but he also realizes that it's too late to change it, so he wants to do everything he can in the underground. - The player starts as a trained Sith, who masters various Force powers (e.g. Force Speed, Force Push, Force Lightning, etc...). It is said that in the progress of the game, you will achieve greater power and grow even stronger than Vader and the Emperor, eventually. - The player is hunting Jedi who survived Order 66. In one duel he will fight against Shaak Ti, who is in control of numerous Rancors [remember that concept art]. He can beat her by tearing the Rancors apart from inside out. - There will be a linear end, and maybe an alternate one, too. - Vader might be playable - The Force powers are portrayed like never before. When someone is Force Pushed, e.g, it will look like he's hit by a canon shot. - The game uses Euphoria and DMM (see Indy 2007 Game), meaning it will be extremely realistic. - There will probably comics and novels set around the game. (like SotE) I pulled this quote strait from The Force.net here. The information is supposidly from the latest issue of Game Informer (167), however i can't confim this. To be honest, if all this is true, its a big let down. It dosn't state PC as a platform there, which would be rediculous considering the PC is the only platform lightsaber games have really been popular on (JK series.) and the plot sounds contrived, and a little stupid. The force powers sound vaguely promising (speed etc.) however my hopes for this have taken a big blow until i see some official info that proves this incorrect or something. Here's hoping there is more to this - i mean it is spearheading a huge media event on Lucasarts/films part, it would be insane to knock out another stupid console game with pretty graphics when something like Mass Effect comes out this year... E:Here are some pictures taken from the Gameinformer article about Force Unleashed, the text is hard to make out, but its interesting anyway. Seemst he facts above are more or less correct, however it could be far from the whole story. The scans were uploaded by some guy at TF.net, same thread as i linked to before. E2: My opinion of this is going up and down. When i first read those facts, twas pretty poor, then when i saw the scans, it went up a bit, and thinking about it there could be alot more to the game than meets the eye. However i then saw the quote saying the game is about kicking peoples ass with the force, once again i have become uncertain that this will be anygood... _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? Here is a picture that seems to be for the new 3D Clone Wars program, it was taken at some kind of collectables event that had a special stand for 'Force Unleashed' things. There are pictures of some characters (shown as action figures) supposidly appearing in either the new game, live action series or both here.
Seems Vader will be involved, apparently there are rumours that in the new game you get to play as an apprentice to Vader or somesuch. The Jedi with the tonfa sabers is in there as well. I've been trying to work this out myself. Not sure about the first piece, but about 32 seconds in (with the crashing star destroyer pic) it changes to the cinematic version of Lux Aeterna by the Kronos Quartet (which is fantastic anyway). Then it changes again for the credits i think. i think he should be involved in say, the first series, with the new director there aswell to see how he wants it, then after that he should hand the show over to the new director and/or scriptwriter... Well first of the Live action TV series seems promising, however, the one thing i love about the original trilogy - which also makes me prefer it over the new ones - is how grimy the galaxy is, as said by a random guy on the extras (cant remember) it looks like its been Lived in, i didnt see that as much with episode 1 2 and 3. If they get it right, the show could be a huge hit, but if they go for the atmosphere from the prequels... i think it will let alot of fans down who prefer the original films. - Qin Tay Senatu. I agree completley. If any one film or book/comic franchise should work as a television show, then it should be Star Wars, it has such an immensley large pool of information to draw upon for stories that its staggering, and i agree with you Qin that the 'grime' and 'lived in' feel of the OT is far superior to the overdone shiny high tech stuff shown to us in the PT. Hopefully, this being the Dark Times then we will get to see more of the OT's style, shows like Firefly, and even Battlestar Galactica have shown new age sci-fi can be impressive, and yet look realistic and down to earth at the same time. Personally i think a lot of the success of the new tv series depends on how much Lucas is involved, the less involved he is the better it will be in my opinion. Hopefully he will let others take the reigns creativly where the show is concerned, and just pass an eye over the scripts before its filmed, a bit like JJ Abrahms does with Lost these days. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? (yes, my description is Bad , but you know what i mean ^^) The books in general i need to get up to date with and read up a load, i had a bad habit this year or starting a starwars book, gertting half way through, then buying another one ;o... so we'll see.. Force unleashed does look unbelievably(SP?) awsome though... they seem to have physics ect running fine, so it looks like it could just be fun throwing stuff about with the force, im just hoping they dont goof it up on the story or sabering ect.. but from the footage ect that ive seen before it does look quiet awsome - Qin Tay Senatu. _______________ Quote: I mostly agree oh Lord of the squeezy mop
