I'm an avid Jedi Knight series fan, having played Dark Forces II, Jedi Outcast, and Jedi Academy through. I just recently reinstalled Outcast/Academy and am looking to play Academy multiplayer, something I haven't done before. I figured this is a good place to start!
Few questions - first, I should patch Jedi Academy to 1.01, right? Second, are there any mods/maps that I should download and look at before I jump into things? And third, any US players, east coast, that I should become acquainted with? _______________ I am the sword in the darkness. |

I can't really join many classes due to the euro times myself. Nothing at that time; I guess you can either wait for somebody to make another class, another knight gets recruited or maybe come in right after a class ended if that works out for you (people still stick around after they end).

I'd love to! I was checking out the class schedule though and it seems like a lot of the classes are during times when I'm at work, being on the east coast of the US... 2pm EST on a weekday is smack dab in the middle of the work day. I don't suppose there are any classes that tend to start around 12 or 1 am GMT, would they? That'd be around the time I'd be playing... _______________ I am the sword in the darkness. |

Anyways, what sort of problem is there with connecting to the server? Error message? The problem was that the JA servers apparently have some sort of filter on them that keep them from coming up on the in-game server list. I popped into the irc channel last night and installed All-Seeing Eye and connected to the JK3 Home server without a problem... couldn't connect to the Euro server because of a 100+ ping though, gave me an error message "Server for low pings only". The other problem is that no one was on the JK3 home server! I dragged Setementor on to spar with me (thanks for coming!), but when are people usually active on the JK3 Home server? Setementor mentioned that most people are usually on the Euro server, which I can't connect to... _______________ I am the sword in the darkness. |

I'd actually recommend patch commander since both versions of the game are separate communities to themselves. Although I'm not sure if it's too late for that or not.

All right, I found a server maintained by Virtue, but I still cannot find a way to connect to the JK3 home server... and when I tried to log in to the TS server to plea for some real-time help, no one was logged in... Thank you for the words of welcome. I've patched the game to 1.01 and installed JA version 3 and the skin pack, and I'm in the process of downloading and installing the rest of the recommended mods from the server page that Jade Jedi linked. However, I tried simply connecting to the server just now and it seemed not to find it. You should download and install the_academy_v3, the only file required to play on the academy's servers, before attempting to connect to them. The file can be downloaded by following this link. You may also want to download the skin pack, which many people use. |
