Holocron Details from Ruuk Haviser

I received this email from Ruuk regarding the Holocron:

We are well positioned to make a serious dent in this Project. I think you and the other senior members will be very happy with how things are coming along. I expect the main work to be completed within ~2 months. Don't hold me to that...it's just a rough timeframe.

- Name best liked by JA appears to be "Holocron." (This will be used in therest of this e-mail. Unless I e-mail otherwise, sometime this weekend, could you have the Knowledge Project Forum renamed the Holocron Project?)

- The Holocron internal structure will closely resemble an old JA handbook written by Kika. It has been divided into sections to help make our work easier.

- The Holocron Project's main personnel have already been recruited. Most of its' sections have a head writer/moderator. These people are in charge of writing that section and gathering information from other sources and JA members. A separate forum has been developed within JA where we conduct our main business. These people are also responsible for moderating their section in the forum.

- A system of information gathering, editing, revision, and publication has been developed. We have a separate forum (off JA) where we will be posting text for viewing and comment and editing by the members of the Project main personnel AND, when possible, by the experts within JA. You all will be contacted when we are ready to begin this phase. This text will be held outside JA and not viewable to the general JA public until we have the whole thing pretty much ready to go. Then we'll need to have the Holocron website designed and built, JA frame changed, and the link provided for everyone to access. (And comment, of course.)

- The Holcron will be (according to DJ) part of the left-hand frame when visiting JA. Clicking on this will take the user to (perhaps) a separate server with administrative rights available to several other people besides the usual (you guys)...Ruuk, MoS, underhill, other section leaders. We want to be able to upload edited content.

- The Holocron will be divided into an "Official" part and an "Unofficial" part. The Official Holocron is what I have already discussed above. The sections will be formally written, edited, and commented upon by the JA experts. The Unofficial Holocron will be like a forum, but moderated. Any JA member will be able to post what they want on whatever topic, and those posts will be gathered together, sorted by Holocron section, edited for content, and perhaps reposted (this part is a little fuzzy.) The whole idea is to keep everything in the Holocron information-based...we would strip exteraneous comments that are off-topic, and edit some posts down to its'
essential points.

- Jake Kainite has finished the Force section, and it is presently going through primary editing. Saber/stance/combos section is being written by Lord Exar Kun...he should have a first draft done within the next few days. Battlin' Billy has completed the first draft of Console section. Bubu is currently working on the Welcome and Introduction to the JA section, and Doobie has offered to write the JA history part of this section. MoS is working on Non-saber weapons section. Jake is going to work on the Different Game Modes section (CTF, etc.). Movement section is unaccounted for at the present time. (MoS is asking Hux if he would do the honors.)

Ah, I seem to remember that you missed the meeting that day. ;)

This "external" forum was going to be for Holocron staff to use for editing purposes. Official writers would post their stuff up there, and the staff as well as JA upper management (JAC/T/K's) would be allowed access to make comment as secondary editing. (Primary editing would take place privately between underhill [head ed.] and writers first, to get it ready for viewing.)

(To everyone else: don't worry. You'll be able to make comments and criticism after we finish the first run and unveil Holocron 1.0.)

I discussed this with DJ, and he wanted to change this from being outside...replacing it with something "within" the JA web server itself. He asked what we needed, and he'd try to provide. So, I did just that and am awaiting a response.

That's the current situation. In the meantime, we are sending bulk e-mail edits around to those within the Holocron staff.
