I had problems with WINE when I updated it. Try a slightly older release instead.
I play all of my games on Hardy Heron |

@solitude: the guy barely knows what a terminal is. you expect a coredump is going to be any use to him? ja is supposed to work in wine. the fact that it isn't means something is weird either in wine or in the system as a whole. the latest wine in hardy is from before 1.0 (although the one in intrepid isn't much better) so there's a decent chance updating will have an effect on the issue.
@tréý: another thing for your friend to try: using packages from wine's repository (look for it on winehq.org) instead of from ubuntu's. they may work better. edit: wow, I can't believe I wasted my 4545th comment on this thread. you better make good use of it. _______________ Saving the world, one kilobyte at a time. The version of ubuntu has nothing to do with this.
8.04 is the latest LTS release, 8.10 was rushed out and still has major issues. I advise doing as the error says: ulimit -c unlimited wine jasp.exe (also, to be pedantic, W(ine) I(s) N(ot) (an) E(mulator)) _______________ Joined 16 October 2004 | Retired 10 April 2005 | Returned 05 June 2008 | Made Staff 27 June 2008 | Made Council 18 January 2009 Padawan To Odan-Wei Belouve | Adopted into the Belouve family | Twin to xAnAtOs | Owner of the 4th Quesi sexy badge Brother To Roan Belouve, Nomad, Majno, Silkmonkey, Kensei and Jarhok Belouve Owner Of Virtue's 1000th profile comment, Mr. Doobie's 1000th profile comment, Gradius' 2500th comment, xAnAtOs' 2500th comment, Rosered's 1500th comment, Laziana's 900th comment, Scythus' 500th comment and Echuu's 100th comment This comment was edited by solitude on Jan 15 2009 09:20pm. |

well first update him to the most recent version of ubuntu (8.10)
and then make sure all of the packages on his system are up to date and then if it's still happening post the version of wine he's using (output from wine --version) oh, and tell him to not be lazy and to make his own threads _______________ Saving the world, one kilobyte at a time.
