Is Jedi Academy Really dying? (Must Read) | |
Sajid - The Undertitled |
OK, lets sit down and discuss this. when i saw the post on the home page, it almost made me cry. I really want to believe that NO! JEDI ACADEMY IS STILL ALIVE! TONS OF PEOPLE STILL PLAY IT! But after thinking about it, I realized that its true. Every day more and more people are not playing Jedi Academy, and even The Jedi Academy is slowing down. I remember when I first got Jedi Academy in the mail, five years ago. For me, (as it was my first real video game) it was like nothing I ever imagined. I played Jedi Academy every day, and I had no problems. I thought it would be that way for ever, and then, maybe five months ago, I started noticing that all the servers were commonly empty and even the Official JA+ Beta Test Servers were commonly filled to the brim with bots, like they are as I type. I don't exactly know what it is that is making Jedi academy less and less popular. Maybe its because of all the new games coming out like Call Of Duty: Black Ops or Halo Reach that are sucking up all the attention from the gamers out there. In my mind, the games like those listed above are simply not challenging enough. Anyway, what do you think? _______________ Brother to Quill You don't understand. The poll may have turned back because DJ will have just taken a snapshot of the website and copied it over to a new location - hence losing any changes made after that snapshot. |

It did that for 15 minutes, until I quit. And YES I installed the mod and found the servers. _______________ Brother to Quill You don't understand. OH! *FacePalm* I know what your talking about! anyway, I didn't know that there were even movie battle servers! were can I find them? what are they called? http://www.moviebattles.com/ Moviebattles is a modification that (mostly) focuses on the siege gametype. It introduces a class-based system where you can choose your character and weapons and stats. Each class has different characteristics and specialities and each can be useful. Rounds of five minutes each begin between the blue and red team and either team must either complete their team's objectives or kill the other team. The entire game is COMPLETELY different, new weapons, graphics, GUI, maps, a more realistic combat and saber system that's really awesome and many more things. The mod also uses last-man-standing mechanics. Some are upset with changes made between builds or bugs but people still play it I believe. Movebattles is a really awesome mod, believe me, I have had a lot of fun with it, especially when they had a bug where you could remove the timelimit - because then you could have huge realistic battles without any time limit. They also have modes that make classes that are specifically like the maps are in the movies - for example mustafar being able to choose Obi-Wan and Anakin. Moviebattles, as the name suggests, is meant to replicate the battles from movies much better and also be somewhat like Counter-Strike, Star Wars-style. _______________ Brother to Quill You don't understand. Thanks for commenting so soon. Yes, I agree with your points Setementor, but I was being a little over dramatic on purpose. Anyway, I am glad to see that you all voted for jedi academy. I agree that jedi academy will not be dead for a long time, and although the players will decrease, there will always be some of those people who cannot let go of jedi academy. (myself included) And I recently found out that the Apple store still sells both games either separately, or in a "Jedi Knight Golden Pack" wich sells both. At this point, I strictly Play jedi academy for its multiplayer, seeing how I was medling in the JA SP application package, and I screwed it up. I know how to fix it, but its not top on my "to-do" list. Keep The comments coming!

Instead of getting upset about the current situation, I find its best to be proactive in resolving its problems. If you want more people to play, you have to go and get them. Sure people may not have much time for this any more, but I know there are plenty who still do and this keeps me playing. _______________ Padawan of Jaina D'Kana Owner of Kain Sol's 400th and Zantus's 500th comment Skin found here: http://skins.thejediacademy.net/official_ja_skinpack_v1.1.zip |

Don't cry; just because it has reduced activity doesn't mean that there are not people who play it regularly. Quote: I really want to believe that NO! JEDI ACADEMY IS STILL ALIVE! TONS OF PEOPLE STILL PLAY IT!
Depends on your definition of 'tons', but a lot of people do still play it. MB2 servers still get full, some CTF servers still get full and I think that not long ago I saw some FFA servers that got full but that was a little while ago now. Duel servers are still visited so hop on one if you want duels. You can probably still find active clans and communities as well. Quote: But after thinking about it, I realized that its true.
A good thing to realise. Quote: Every day more and more people are not playing Jedi Academy
People pass on the game to their friends or sell it on eBay etc. New players are appearing in some of their places. Quote: even The Jedi Academy is slowing down.
True, but the academy is going nowhere, so don't worry. Quote: I remember when I first got Jedi Academy in the mail, five years ago.
I got it 7 years ago, I know what you mean. Quote: I thought it would be that way for ever
All things come to an end someday, but new awesome things come in their place. Quote: Official JA+ Beta Test Servers were commonly filled to the brim with bots
The JA+ CTF server is often full of players I noticed. Quote: I don't exactly know what it is that is making Jedi academy less and less popular.
People get bored of games when they've played them for so long. The game is 7 years old. The game before it, JK2, is almost 9 years old. All old games reduce in activity, especially if they are no longer supported, publicised or updated. In most cases the game is always there though and there are at the very least a few die-hard supporters still messing around with it decades into its perceived "death". Jedi Academy is unique in that it has a unique saber system unlike other games. The concept of having force in CTF games is also interesting to people. Playing TFFA with sabers (and sometimes force) instead of guns is also something not in every single TFFA-supporting game. Star Wars fans still like to roleplay in Jedi Academy. MB2 is a popular, newspaper and news agency-advertised modification and still has players. I hear people talk about this game still. Unlike some other games, this game will still be active to some extent for a long time beyond its release date compared to many other games I suspect. It'll still be active in some form and there will be plenty of active groups of players still - just look around for them. Quote: Maybe its because of all the new games coming out like Call Of Duty: Black Ops or Halo Reach that are sucking up all the attention from the gamers out there.
A lot of people play a new game for a bit, then move on to a newer game, so this is certainly a factor. Some Star Wars fans and people who like the game's unique gameplay will remain for a long time to come though, as I said. Quote: In my mind, the games like those listed above are simply not challenging enough.
There are a lot of differents games and people have different tastes, but believe me there are plenty of challenging games old and new, just need to look in the right places and categories for what you want and prefer. Quote: Anyway, what do you think?
If you like Jedi Academy, keep playing it, because it's not 100% dead yet. If you're bored, buy a new game or even an older game (since old games are still cool too and cheaper!). This comment was edited by Setementor on Dec 12 2010 11:29am. |

The game is old and lacks official support. People's interests shift. Besides, there's still a lot of people playing the game, as far as I know - just take a look at the ESL. _______________ Find out more about the Jedi Academy Aurochs here and more about Masta here! Married to Kain. |
