The Dark Tower series is awesome and I have read it several times myself.
I like all the cross references to King's other works throughout the series. So everytime I read through it again, I understood a bit more of the references because I had read other books of him in the meantime. Alas, I have to say that that the quality of the series starts lacking a bit after book 4. Which is not too surprising, as prior to part 5-7 King took a very long break from the series. Reading 'Agesilaus and the Failure of Spartan Hegemony' by Charles Hamilton. It's a seminal study on Spartan social, political and military history in the fourth century BCE, very well written and rather inspiring book. Partially depressing too though, I felt pretty bad reading it today for example, where the Battle of Leuctra and it's repercussions were covered.
