I loved the way Rift did it's multi build option where you could switch between them where needed to perform various and different roles. I had a PvE HoT Healer, PvE burst Healer, PvP and DPS specs I could switch too.
I remember playing in a hardcore PvP Warhammer guild and we use to have to constantly respec for PvE groups for equipment or our designated PvP role, cost a fortune to do and we usually had to do it 3-4 times a week. I guess what rift had to go with that was a story element that seemed to make it fit but I guess force users could adopted forms and non force users stances to change between selected builds but I think we're way past getting this added in and will just have to be content. _______________ Bro of many in a very deformed family tree || Formerly a Padawan of Motrec, Kenyon & Aphex AKA Quiet Guardian, QG and Coogie |

Not sure to what degree they achieved their goal, but most of the discussions I read in the beta forums seemed to indicate that most builds were viable for both although some naturally being better than others at certain roles. Not sure what specs are geared for PVP for every adv class but, for example, the Guardian's Focus tree is roughly aimed at PVP. Still this isn't an area I'm an expert in so I'll stop there. I'd say play what appeals to you first and foremost, a tank can still PVE competently. A Shadow with a Kinetic Combat build for example. You could also just roll a Guardian and go Vigilance (damage) until you are max level then respec as required (full tank or PVP). I appreciate your effort but you seem to miss my point. The moment it becomes "x or y" I'd like another build available. PVE specs are viable in PVP and vice versa, yeh. But like I said somewhere else on these forums. I'm a highly competitive gamer and I'd like to get the best out of my build whatever I do. I just won't settle for decent at this and good at that. Like I said though. I can always just play Shadow instead. Thanks for the replies though _______________ PSN: Argantes XBL: Ravencloak My destiny lies where my fate leads me... |

Reason I mainly ask is so I can make up my mind about what class to play.
I don't mind playing a tank class. I've played one in different games. Have a 50 warrior in Rift, a 55 Temp in Aion etc. But if it means I have to spec PVE stuff cause I'm limited to one build chart, I'll just play a Shadow instead. _______________ PSN: Argantes XBL: Ravencloak My destiny lies where my fate leads me... |

Quote: One build at this time. You can go to a skill point reset NPC, but I don't believe that is what you're talking about. Switching between builds has been under consideration by the developers, but it is not in at launch. One reason it isn't in is that offense isn't what PvP is all about. A tank can earn just as much points by protecting and absorbing damage. A healer can also earn by points by healing.
Yeah I get that. I was just trying to get a point across so people would get what I meant. I probably should have said PVE and PVP spec but you got the point anyways. Reason I ask is, we're limited to a certain amount of skill points. Meaning we will put points in to skills for PVE that are simply a waste in PVP and vice versa. But yeah, I hope they reconsider their stance on that. It was an amazing feature in other games like Rift. _______________ PSN: Argantes XBL: Ravencloak My destiny lies where my fate leads me... Quote: I haven't played the Beta, so this is a question for those of you who have.
Is it possible to switch between several builds, like you could with Rift etc? I don't mean, classes, I mean actual builds within an advanced class. Can I go Defensive for PVE and Offensive for PVP or are you limited to one build with having to pay to change it every time? One build at this time. I've heard the Guardian's focus tree is pretty good in PVP. Not tried it myself though. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? Or what the student learns? A Dkana |

I've played a Sith Juggernaut specced for DPS (direct equiv.) and I would have to say there is absolutely nothing wrong with their DPS, survivability or overall playability while levelling.
I don't think you'll be disappointed playing one, but at the same time the utility of a Jedi Knight is that they can main tank. You'll probably get more out of being dedicated DPS with another class, but you can definitely main DPS with a Jedi Knight/Sith Warrior. You get a healing companion early enough that you can level efficiently no what what spec you choose. Well, they are pretty bad in pvp, and their dps really starts to stink past level 30. In PvP, you really want to embrace the tank skills. Your protection skills will help you rack up points and medals. Guard plus your taunts work great. I've played Vanguard quite a bit, and that's where I really shine in PvP, absorbing damage and guarding teammates, usually the healers. _______________ "Do or do not, there is no try" Jedi Master Yoda Dual Saberist |

Well I want to play Jedi Guardian specced to DPS, purely because I only want one lightsaber. Been hearing bad things about their dps tree though. I'm thinking Jedi Consular, Shadow (Wouldn't be a JA moment without me slicing and dicing with a beer in one hand and a staff saber in another), but doing all Tank skills. _______________ Be honorable, be friendly, be trustworthy. Changed my mind regarding which Jedi class I'll play first. I really don't get on with the male JK's VA so I'm going to go with a Consular Shadow instead, double bladed lightsaber and all.
Eeewwwwwwww Heh I know. I would much prefer a single blade, it's how I played KotOR regardless of class, but neither the Guardian or Sage appeals to me like the Shadow and Sentinel does. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? I'm honestly playing two characters from day one but I'll give you their confirmed details:
-Jedi Consular, Shadow, mix of the defence and stealth trees. -Smuggler, Gunslinger, dirty fighting, most likely with some sharshooter. I've played some IA Operative healer and I can see why you love the Sawbones style set up Monteee, I'm going to save it for my eventual IA character myself though. Quote: Trooper Vanguard as a tank. I will be rolling female mainly because the female trooper is voiced by Jennifer Hale (Female Shepard and Bastilla).
Haha I know what you mean, when I heard her voicing the character it was a perfect fit. Same with the Imperial Agent (Jo Wyatt/female Hawke) <3). For any other DA2 and BioWare fans out there, other notable VAs include: Brian Bloom (Varric) voicing the male Trooper, and Steve Valentine (Alistair) voicing the male Sith Warrior. Popular speculation has Claudia Black voicing the female SW, Steve Barr voicing the male BH, and Grey Delisle voicing the female BH. There is a thread devoted to it but the forums are down at the mo. _______________ To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield | Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken | Rhaiko D'kana - SWTOR EU Guild Co-Founder | Is it what the teacher, teaches? Honestly, ever since around two summers ago, I've been itchin' for some dark side story.
As such, I'm doing all the Sith Empire classes... and maybe a Smuggler for the Republic. The difficulty I'm having is morality. Honestly, I want to say I'm doing Light Side Sith Inquisitor as my main, but it honestly depends on the companions for me. And I know my Bounty Hunter will be Light Side, too.
