Patch 1.1 | |

Any of you actually 50 yet and going to Ilum on a daily basis?
I tried after the patch yesterday. Soon as I entered, I noticed about 200 Imperials right outside our South base. We were fighting them with around 25 Republicans. I managed to get around 11 kills and realised I don't wanna do this every day to finish the daily. All i really did was jump in to they blob, use all my aoe's to get damage on people, die and hope some ranged dude kills whoever I hit so I get credit for the kill too. I won't quit or anything, but I do really dislike this particalr part of the patch. Luckily, I still have an alt to lvl and wait till they fix it. Otherwise, it's no more open world PVP. I knew when Bioware said "The more people attack other people, the better the rewards" that things would go downhill cause he basically says "ZERGFEST" But I didn't expect it to be this bad, lol. Like I said, not quitting, but I would like people's opinion on this. As long as they are effected by it. If you haven't reached 50 yet and don't even know what Ilum was like before, please don't bother ommenting on how bad it is. I see enough whining about nothing on the official forums. _______________ PSN: Argantes XBL: Ravencloak My destiny lies where my fate leads me... Yeh they did a "fix" today
the only thing that changed though, is that yo can't get spawncamped anymore and actually have a chance of getting out of the base. but running in to someone for a 1v1 or even 3v3 is just impossible now. I spent all night in Ilum helping people with dailies and our group would be no bigger than 4 people. We eventually just decided to stay in our base and do it the same way we did yesterday. Not too happy about this at all. This is from another server, but it's exactly the same on ours. Ilum today _______________ PSN: Argantes XBL: Ravencloak My destiny lies where my fate leads me... Yeah, they really messed up yesterday. Empire was getting insane amounts of valor. Now they will outnumber and outgear us. The fact that they didn't do a rollback on valor completely astounds me. I really hope that they test updates better than this from now on.
I am not quitting either, but I am taking a break for a day or two to see how things are handled. So far, I have not been impressed. This comment was edited by Tallepyon on Jan 19 2012 08:59pm. |

And this is Bioware's official response:
Hello everyone; I wanted to update you on the issues we’ve been seeing today on the live servers, specifically within the Open World PvP area on Ilum. We’re aware that on some servers, either Republic or Empire groups have been capturing the Ilum control points, entering the enemy’s base and ‘camping’ the medcenters, preventing the opposite faction from leaving their base to recapture control points. This is not a fair or balanced gameplay experience and can also severely affect client performance, so we’re taking steps to address this. Our intended design for Ilum Open World PvP is that players are instantly killed when entering the enemy’s base safe area, just like in Warzones, and that the defending faction can take taxis to other points within the zone. In Game Update 1.1, this is not working as intended. We have found the issue preventing this from happening under server load and will be publishing an Emergency Patch to address the issue. We’re aiming to have this patch published early tomorrow morning (January 19th, 5 AM US CST). [Note, please check the launcher and the main thread for the latest information on patch deployment timing -JG] In addition to these changes, we’ll be reducing the population cap on Ilum. This should help increase performance by requiring your client to render fewer characters on-screen at once. Regarding Valor gains, with the 1.1 update, players now receive a base reward of 20 Valor per unique enemy player defeated in a short time, and this base reward is modified by the number of objectives that the player’s faction owns. The gains are rate limited per player killed, encouraging players to attack unique players, not to pursue vendettas. The Valor gains players can see over time will vary greatly depending on the activity level in the zone. This is expected. To dispel a couple of rumors that have been seen today – there is no Valor gain from destroying turrets within enemy bases, and none from killing NPCs. We encourage players to avoid Ilum until our patch is deployed. As a temporary measure we will be disabling taxi services which would normally take players into the Open World PvP area. However, players will still be able to taxi out of the area. We will continue to monitor Ilum across all servers and will make further changes to gameplay if required. We welcome your feedback here on the Forums, but please ensure your feedback is constructive and specific. Feedback based on rumor does not help us isolate potential issues. _______________ PSN: Argantes XBL: Ravencloak My destiny lies where my fate leads me... |

Turrets don't ive valor. it's a myth.
As for what they're doing about it. Well. Right now, a lot of people gained about 3 or 4 valor levels in the late 50s. (Getting 52 to 53 took me a day of off and on warzones) Like going from 54 to 58 in a day etc. This wouldn't be bad if it wasn't one ides. Whoever has the higher population on any server, will benefit greatly from this. Since battlemaster gear is available at Valor rank 60, a lot of people just spent all day farming the opposite faction in their base. THing is, once this starts, you can't do anything about it but log off. You respawn at the nearest medcenter, which is where you just got killed. The only way to get out of it, is queue for a warzone and AFK it to get sent back to the republic fleet. This however is considered an exploit and Bioware officials actually warned people about doing this resulting in a ban. So basically they said they don't care about you being spawncamped untill they fixed it. Again ,logging off was their only option. What's being done about it is simply making it so that if they enter your base, they insta die. Which is alright I guess, but still doesn't change aything about any problem As soon as you get out of the base there are 200 enemies waiting for you. If you're smart enough to use stealth, or use a speeder to another location to cap objectives, the game will let everyone on the opposing faction know you're there. They'll get a flytext saying "Jedi Guardian Argantes, Spotted near Central Assault" Guess what hapens then. Right, half the blob moves to wherever that msg came from and atleast try to hit you so they get credit for a kill before I can get my objective. Why? Cause the more objectives they hold, the more valor they get. Even if it's just doing damage on someone who ends up dead, they all get the same valor. I could go on for a while, but yeh. This is just bad. _______________ PSN: Argantes XBL: Ravencloak My destiny lies where my fate leads me... |

I just heard that Ilum currently allows the Imps to camp some Rep turrets that only have like 2 minutes of respawn time and give lots of valor - not sure about the details though.
I didn't know it was that creepy - getting spawncamped is not nice. What can actually be done about it? I mean about alot of Imps waiting outside the base? I know it is not a gentleman-gamer attitude - but who of them kiddies actually cares about ethics in an MMO? _______________ Proud owner of Buster Senatu's 200th & 300th, Muro's 370th, Maher's 2100th, Henkes' 1639th, Johauna's 400th, 666th and 900th, Sho Koon's 2000th and Kain Sol's 600th comment Download Laziana's lightsaber here! The patch will only prevent players from ebtering our base though.
It won't do anyting about the 150 right in front of our base and another 150 roaming the PVP part of Ilum preventing people from doing objectives. My main concern is that they are actually encouraging people to do this, since all you need is a single hit, even 1 damage, on someone to get credit for your daily. On top of that you get Valor too. So, even though you won't be spawncamped anymore, you're still pretty much done when it comes to open world PVP. I know not everyone is concerned with PVP, but it's pretty much the main reason I started playing. _______________ PSN: Argantes XBL: Ravencloak My destiny lies where my fate leads me... |

I read about an emergency patch going in rather soon. Maybe it already is in place. I have not played on Ilum as of yet. Hit 50 but am finishing up Corellia and my story first. _______________ "Do or do not, there is no try" Jedi Master Yoda Dual Saberist |
