There are a few people around here that wanna try out mapping or wateva, but can't always get through the tutorials. People that already map mite get stuck with something too. You could get forwarded to Dom, but he's never got the time to reply to that kinda mail for sum reason...
So, here looks like a nice place to set up for a community mapping discussion Better go grab those tent poles... _______________ ««¤¤¤{{PREÅÐÅT¤R ka¦¦ata'n}}¤¤¤»» Founder of RSPCT (The Royal Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Toasters) |

Osh, unfortunatly you can't change the duel music in multiplayer inside of a map. So there is no key for it. however, you can change it. It just will change it for all maps.
To do it, in your pk3 file, make the folders music/mp and put in your new duel music. then rename the music to duel.mp3. The game will use the new music, because it will think that its actually playing the duel music. _______________ The only thing better than playing JA is making JA levels! I know how to change the music in my map, but is it possible to change what mp3 file plays when you engage in saber challenge. I'm assuming it's a key and value in the worldspawn but do you know what the key is? _______________ One of the Belouve boys |

I don't remember where, exactly, I found out about the hint brush thing. I know I've seen a hint brush explained as a system/areaportal brush before, definitly on lucasforums, almost definitly on the pcgamemods forums. Since then ive heard it mentioned it that way other places, but I've never really gotten a clear explenation. I've heard other places just call it a hint brush. So I don't really know, and I just assumed that hint brushes and areaportal brushes were the same.... _______________ The only thing better than playing JA is making JA levels! Thanks Corran, the problem WAS that I hadn't made my glass a detail brush. It works perfectly now
About the system/hint texture: I thought that is what system/area_portal was for. Do they work the same way? _______________ One of the Belouve boys |

Dachsie, all you have to do is:
1. create a brush where you want this 1 sided window to be. 2.select the side of the brush that you want to act like glass and apply the glass texture (glass2, I think, in the common texture set) to that side. 3.fit the glass texture (press s and select fit in the pop up window) so that it looks more like glass. 4.select the side of the brush you want people to NOT see through. apply any normal texture you want to it (just not glass). And then it should work _______________ The only thing better than playing JA is making JA levels! Shadow Faction- a new JKII competition community center. Does anyone know how to make one way glass that if you are on one side you see a texture and on the other side it acts loike glass? This would be cool for my upcoming "Polar [Hoth] Academy"!

Ioshee, the problems you described were exactly what would happen if you forgot to detail the glass. So go detail it and the problems will go away
About my problem with the dissapearing func_rotating, I removed the hint brush in the closest door and now there is no problem. I wonder if it matters how big an entity is compared to the portal its in? It was a very big entity, and now that the portal is much bigger it seems to be working just fine For those of you who want to know what a hint brush is, it's exactly what Preadator was describing: a brush covered in system/areaportal. What it does is tell the compiler to cut off the portal when it meets the brush. This is especially useful in doors because doorways would create a very strangly shaped portal without a hint brush. -hope that helped a little _______________ The only thing better than playing JA is making JA levels! I can't visualize what your talking about osh. Making the glass into a detail brush might help. It might be the texture/shader you picked also. _______________ Death is only the beginning. |

Sorry, I hate to double post, but I just thought of something: I'm not sure if I made my glass panels into detail brushes. Would that cause any of the problems I'm having? I will test it out when I get home today.
Thanks in advance for your help. *EDIT* BTW what is a hint brush used for Corran? _______________ One of the Belouve boys This comment was edited by ioshee on Feb 26 2003 12:36pm. |

I'm having a terrible time with glass. I have glass in an observation area over a dueling room. When I get too far back, it starts looking really goofy. It’s hard to describe but it doesn’t look right. Plus, when I stand right next to the glass and look sideways along it, it turns all white on the other side of it. Has anyone had similar problems with glass? I would actually like it to be one way glass (where the duelers can't see the observation area,) but I seem to have even more problems with that. I’m thinking of scrapping the glass altogether and just putting up some handrails hehe.
Thanks _______________ One of the Belouve boys |

is the func_rotating within touching range of the func_door?
if removing the hint brush fixes the problem, try placing some brushes covered with textures>system>areaportal should hopefully fix the framerate problem. (what is the hint brush for neway? i neva botherd toying with that before...) I just ran across a very interesting problem- I have a room with a func_rotating staircase (its interesting to watch people try to climb it) in a room that is seperated from the rest of the map with a door and a hint brush.
Now heres the interesting part- when the door is open, the func_rotating is seen as usual. When the door closes behind the person, the func_rotating DISSAPEARS. As i said, climbing a rotating staircase was hard enough, but now its impossible. So, does anyone have an idea as to how i might fix this problem? Should I remove the hint brush? I really don't want to do that, because without it the map gets really laggy. _______________ The only thing better than playing JA is making JA levels! I've never tried it, but you SHOULD be able to make a JK2 map with tempest. After making the map, you would UV map it, with the textures that come with the game. Then you should be able to export the file as a .map file. I don't know how you would do entities... Then, you would have to run the compiler.
A question- what graphics card do you have? I have had first hand experiance with radiant not working because of a bad card, or old drivers. _______________ The only thing better than playing JA is making JA levels! see, i have a big wall. now i want to cut a CIRCLE outta that wall! like when you do a 32-sided brush, ut kinda "invert it" (everything that is selected gets deselected and the other way around). oh, and how to important custom md3's? i have a .md3 file and a skin, but how to get it in radiant? thx Corr, but i was thinking about custom entities, like enteties in a hydroball map. Ball spawn point and so on. I figured out meself out. Aeth, To fit a round dome into a "4-corner brush" you first make a dome out of bevels or use a cone. Then, with bevels you cap each one with an inverted bevel cap, then delete the cap that won't be showing. With a cone you just cap it, and delete the top cap. the cap will make the curve fit into 4 corners.
Demon, the glass texture is in the "common" set. I think glass 2 works the best, but I'm not sure. when you apply the texture to a brush face, make sure you fit the texture (press s to bring up the surface window, press fit, then press ok). This will cause the glass to look transparent instead of marked. I don't know what you mean by "custum entity". If you mean a completely create a new type of entity, I have no idea how. If you mean create a new entity in your map, first select the brush you are creating the entity with, right click on the 2D view, and select the entity from the entity list. Glass is in the func group. After selecting the entity type the brush you selected will now be an entity. Keep in mind that you only have to make glass an entity if you want the glass to be breakable. You can have glass with just the texture, but make sure you make the brush detail. _______________ The only thing better than playing JA is making JA levels!
