Hey, I'm harm and I'm kind of 'new' here, and I have a little question.

What is the proper duelling etiquette?

1. Bow
2. Saber out, wait for opponent to do the same
3. Move and fight

OR

1. Bow
2. Saber out & move, even when the opponent doesn't have his saber out
3. Fight

I was confused, because sometimes when I duel with someone, they move before I have my saber out and as soon as I put it out, they're all over me

I think its bad when they go to bow and you do your nod or bow and before you're even looking back up they are coming at you saber swinging. I think that just looks bad on them. Honestly if the guy wants to bow or doesn't want to bow and start right off I'm fine with that, but you should still make sure the other person is ready. I'll respect your choice to do whatever you want before the duel starts but if you want your methods to be respected you should respect the methods of others as well. If they don't want to bow or nod let them. But they should still let you bow.

I disagree with Java, it anit right to attack when they cant even defend (plus is sux to start with a RDFA right away). Thats not honralbe, in fact I barly attack when they are on the floor after a DFA.

I disagree. As long as my opponent bows first, RDFA right out of the starting gate is not discourteous at all. What could be more courteous than letting me have a free hit on him at the beginning of the match?

Jake... I understand that someone may take advantage of the fact that I don't attack when saber is out... but if they move to hit... then I won't simply stand there and wait for the hit... I just wait till saber is out to make my first attack

Yes but some people take advantage of the fact that they know you won't hit them with their saber down. So whilst you assume they are harmless, they can pop off a lunge or something.

As soon as we've bowed (if we both bow) I'll start imdeiately, if my opponent hasn't moved yet I'll wait for em to either ignite saber or move. Bow by all means, but don't make a whole song and dance about it that takes 5 mins.

If my oponent makes any move towards me, or in a offensive manner, try to walk round the side of me, I'll hit them, saber down or not.

Man I feel alone right now...:D

I always tought that the fight only started when the saber was out... well that's what I think, and because of that I will never attack an opponent when his saber isn't out.

And for hiding your stance... you just have to walk (or run) and the saber will always be held in the same manner

What Javaguy said. But most people here will respect whatever rules you want to set before a duel. MOST but not all.

I would say bowing is cool but not necessary, and be ready to fight right after that. Generally speaking that is.

well, after the bow the duel is open.
lots of ppl, especially on publics tend to jump on in and get the action started.

in the JA, whereas most ppl wait until the opponent has his saber out.

I always bow and dedicate the fight to my mom. I never attack until my opponent has bowed (unless he attacks first, of course).

I do _not_ wait until he has his saber out--after we've both bowed the fight is on. Some people like to keep their sabers in until their first attack to mask what stance they're in. That's a perfectly acceptable tactic in my book, although I don't do it, so I do not assume a deactivated saber means he's not fighting.

I always respect a chat box as an indicator of a time out and will never deliberately attack someone with a chat box up. Other than that, in duel mode anything goes after both parties have bowed.

If an opponent does not bow before attacking me, I do not give him grief about it, but if he makes a habit of it I might say a polite word to him because he might just not know about bowing. I always bow from far enough away that an opponent does not have time to bow and then attack me before I bow, which most people would not do anyway.

You don't actually HAVE to do any of these things ('cept fighting :P) but normally it's the first most people go after, or walking towards the opponent after bowing.
