*ahem* After reading Jake's post in 'Ranking system' (about how he had used main chat when teaching so that the JAT's would know, etc.) I started thinking. This was exactly what I had done. I worked, trying to get a nomination, I helped people with that little thought; "if I keep this up I'll get a nomination!", and I'm ashamed of this. Not meaning that I didn't enjoy teaching or helping, I did and still do, but I didn't do it all out of a desire to help others, while getting more and more frustrated that the JAT's didn't nominate me. This was especially strong in the beginning and had gradually cooled off till now. Now I have seen the light: it doesn't pay off to do that, you will get nothing but frustrations and in the end (as well as in the moment) you'll enjoy helping without having a goal much more. I apologies to the JAK's, JAT's and JAC's especially for trying to decieve them, but also to my fellow student, especially those who I have helped for my own sake, for my inproper behaviour. Also, I wish to warn those who are doing this or thinking of doing this: it does NOT pay off, I haven't recieved anything but anger by this sherade and I hope you won't follow my "example". This might not seem very important to many of you but it's a matter of honor to me. I hate to say it, but I have turned away from the dark side. I hope you won't lose any respect for me because of this (assuming you had some before...  ).I know you'll express your feelings. Jacen, as one of people who benefitted from your help, let me just say "thanks". As the most likely oldest member of the academy (I'm talking age here...not length of membership) let me just say that I've learned a few things in my life. One of them is that people often do things for a variety of reasons and not just one. The fact that you hoped your actions would get you nominated does not in any way diminish the fact that you did help others because you also derived some satisfaction from it or simply out of benevolence. Nobody does anything for solely altrusistic reasons. Someone who gives time or money to charity shouldn't belittle themselves because they feel good about their actions. It is still a noble gesture... and those that receive the help greatly appreciate it. The same is true of your actions. I appreciate your help and I am a better player today because of it. In fact, without you and Flash, I might well have quit coming to the Academy. No one else would teach me... Eventually, JaMeS and Jake Kainite agreed to teach me. I am indebted to both for agreeing to help me improve when they have time. But I'm only around now because you showed interest and a willingness to help me when no one else would. _______________ Part-Time Player (Weekend Warrior). Yeah m8 your right. I had the same thing but i overcame it because i like teaching and helping others above being a JAK. The feeling of making a difference is reward enough. I have 2 unofficial padawan's at the moment and it feels good to hear they learned something from me. So I hope u will keep helping people m8 and remember i always had my respect and you always will my friend u are great **bows** |

Feels good to bring it out in the open huh ? When you realise you're no longer expecting to get a reward for helping people thats when you do. Just a simple "thankyou. you've helped me loads" is enough to make it all worthwhile. You know what they say, if you can reach just one person....... Jace, LOL, I know this thingy so well. Many of us went through it I think. It's part of our learning process. Because if you stop it you have learned a lot of things. Humbleness, patience, a better view of the academy and better relations with other people. At least it was what I learned from all of it. Don't you think that quiting the trying feels wonderfull. The ability to only do the things you really enjoy. And let me tell you something I think. The JAT's have a li'll list with people on it. But I think they don't need many JAK's now, so nobody is nominated. You'll see when you're nominated. And until that time I see you have tought yourself just to have a great time. HI. Im glad you are happy now. This game is meant to be fun. The people here are great. I am willing to help anyone who asks because I like doing it and I would want the same from other people who are more experienced then me. If one day i am meant to be a knight then great...if not then im happy just having fun with the game. I love all the people here and the Academy is great.
