Hey, if you're gonna call this a proselytizing thread, then I'll proselytize. But merely stating that I do lead groups (to help out someone who migh have further inquiries), and then contributing to the Bible verse thread, with slight commentary, is not proselytizing. I'm welcome to say "my door is open" and I'm welcome to comment on a verse. But if you really want to see what proselytizing is, go ahead, and I'll show you. It is much more than what you have seen now. So watch what you call this. _______________ Jedi do not fight for peace. That's only a slogan, and is as misleading as slogans always are. Well, Monty, I'll place out a littel comment to everyone. This is the "Bible verses" thread. Not the "I want to debate with you and make you belive, damnit!" thread. And some make commentary on Bible verses, that's fine. But let's not debate whether someone has the right to think what they do. Monty can e-mail me if he wants. For the record, I run a Christian group, I am one of the leaders. I am also the National Representative for a Lutheran group. Really, if you have something to ask, I can put you in touch with anyone that might aid you. That being said, I'd love to reply to you here, as would others, but this is not the place. We debate, someone gets riled, and we all the the snot beat out of us. So Monty knocked it off track a bit. Keep it on track and don't debate here. And for a Bible verse, some discussion: "He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick." Matthew 14:14 NKJV Matthew writes that Jesus “healed their sick.” Not some of their sick. Not the righteous among the sick. Not the deserving among the sick. But “the sick.” Surely, among the many thousands, there were a few people unworthy of good health. The same divinity that gave Jesus the power to heal also gave him the power to perceive. . . I wonder if Jesus was tempted to say to the bigot, “Get out of here, buddy, and take your arrogance with you.” And he could see not only their past, he could see their future. Undoubtedly, there were those in the multitude who would use their newfound health to hurt others. Jesus released tongues that would someday curse. He gave sight to eyes that would lust. He healed hands that would kill. Each time Jesus healed, he had to overlook the future and the past. Something, by the way, that he still does. _______________ Jedi do not fight for peace. I'll add one of my favorites, just to keep this near the top of the forum: Job 4:3-6 "See, you have instructed many; you have strengthened weak hands. Your words have supported those who were stumbling, and you have made firm the feeble knees. But now trouble has come to you, and you are impatient; it touches you and you are dismayed. Is not your fear of God your confidence, and the integrity of your ways your hope?" Really, I hope this thread helps out with Bible verses. There's just some nifty stuff in there, even som funny versus if you take them out of context, like Isaiah 4:1a "Seven women shall take hold of one man in that day" Good stuff, eh? _______________ Jedi do not fight for peace. Hello all! I need to say something here. It is very simple. If people who are into the bible enjoy quoting bible versus to each other and enjoy applying them to their lives then thats great! Why be against this forum? If you aren't into it then dont bother reading this forum. I don't believe it is here to affend, it is just here for people who enjoy being spiritually enlightened by the word of God. If I wasnt religious or into the bible I wouldn't click here because it would upset me. Just ignore it and let people be happy with what makes them happy. Take care my friends. ![]() _______________ RIP MOM 06/29/58-07/31/08 Married to Koyi Donita 4/30/11 |

I think this being offended by stuff is getting a little out of hand. We can’t use our power to get something censored just because we want revenge for something else that was censored. What’s the difference between that and laming some person on the server because they lamed you? I met this guy once. During one of our first conversations he asked me what my favorite verse of the Bible was. I thought that was an interesting question but it was even more fascinating to find out that he asked everyone he met that question. Later he showed me a poster he made with a bunch of peoples names on it and their favorite Bible verse next to their name. I thought that was pretty cool. It was neat to see these people’s names that I knew very well and then see these Bible verses next to them. Some of them I thought were just what I might expect from the person while others where totally unexpected. It gave a great perspective on a lot of my friends. So on that note one of my favorite Bible verses at the moment is: Luke 22:42 “… Father, if it is Your will, remove this cup from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” This was spoken by Jesus to God the night before he was to be crucified. I love it because it shows the complete humanity of Jesus in his not wanting to go through with the next day’s events. However he forgoes his own will and asks that the Father’s will be done. Great example for me to live by. I don’t want my will but God’s will. He created me so why would he want anything but the best for me. And because he is omnipresent I think he knows better than I do what is best for me. And by wanting Gods will, His will and my will become the same anyway. _______________ One of the Belouve boys This comment was edited by ioshee on Jun 04 2003 12:44am. |

Jake, i disagree, this isnt preaching. the bible, whether or not the christian religion is right, has many quotes that can be of use in real life. no one is asking you to read, believe, or quote the bible, however, for those intrested in what the bible has to say that would rather not join a bible study, spend the money on the book, or take the time to go to church (or the few who are too embarassed to admit intrest in such topics) this thread provides a place where they can read, and maybe disscuse, the various quotes of the bible without fear, or cost. that being said: "you are like a puff of smoke which appears for a moment and then dissappears... now you are too proud, and you boast; all such boasting is wrong." james 4: v 14, 16 |

Jake, once you think about it, any statement like the ones made in this thread come from either a theistic or atheistic world view, so in essence, whatever you post, wherever you post it, is going to act as an ad banner saying, 'this is what I believe' to the rest of the world. Sorry I've already clicked, and I don't mean to bash religion here. I beleive people can beleive whatever they want. But why did you have to mke a post on here about it ? Surely anyone who would be interested in this type of thing would have a bible and thus keep it to themselves. To me, this posts seems like preaching, like you are trying to be noticed, and in other words, shoving your religion in everyones faces. Like Jacen said in another post, most people here are atheists, with a few Jedi, and I'm sure, many other religions as well, but they don't preach on here about them. Lets have an example here, if I was to make a post about natzi's or stuff like that, those are beleifs, those are a reigion, but I'm pretty sure everyone would frown upon it and I'd get in trouble, so whats the difference between that and this ? <footnote> I have no interest or belief in natzi stuff or anything like that, just to clarify ![]() _______________ Apprenctice of Jedi Master Ascari (deceased) Descended from a line of great Jedi Will argue any point of view from any side ![]() |
