First SWG review (that I've seen): THUMBS WAY DOWN!

And I have to say it's a doozy: http://content.guru3d.com/article.php?cat=gamereviews&id=49&pagenumber=1

I just think this whole SWG thing is hilarious. How someone can justify spending that much money on something that is clearly nowhere near done is ridiculous to me, but I guess there are those of you who find it fun. To each his (or her) own I guess, but I'm going to take the money I would've spent on SWG 6 months and buy 2 or 3 (probably) fully finished games.

(note for SWG fans, if you're going to flame me for thinking what I think, I'd hold your breath if I were you. Constructive comments, however, are encouraged)

I have to say maybe it wasn't what alot of you where expecting. Yes there is still work to be done, but remember this...it is an online game and is ever growing. It just came out so give it a few months...maybe close to december and you will see significant changes. I got SWG and I must say. It could have a few things done differently, but it is a good game none the less. $15 dollors a month to play?. That is fine with me

I never trust reviews. I only trust my OWN reviews. I agree with you all. He must have played it for an hour and he must have NEVER played an online game before. The game isn't complete, it will never be complete, they haven't had time to make patches, and JUST GROW UP! He needs to just stop complaining about the game. Yes, I do see places where the game needs to be improved, but I wait for the patch to be released. I don't start going around insulting the game for what it currently is. What it currently is, is STAR WARS. Once again, I agree with...whoever said this. lol. It's the game of Life: Star Wars edition. If it has bugs, get over it.

My final note:

STOP COMPLAINING!

Personally I'm not trusting a review until 2 weeks after release. All these guys are doing is reviewing the beta. :)

How dare that horrible horrible Force Commander game get mentioned here? That game taught me to never pre-order. :)

Lol Flamori, you dont even know that guy and calling him a bastard...

Rauc, the essay was written by someone called Mike Nelson. Only the site's name is "guru of 3D" That's why I've asked if you had read at all ;)

Well, non of us has played that game, beside the beta guys. Guess we can't judge it as for now, we just have to wait for further rewies or until you play it yourself. However, there is one thing sure already:
A game you pay 50 bucks for, should be completed. It should be 99% balanced and bug fixed. That *is* what you pay for? It is a bad habit of developers to *plan* patches, the perfect game shouldnt have patches at all (beside those including extra stuff and adding new content... *really* new content)

You are aware of SWG's backstory? It just seemed perfect. It seemed like StarWars. Dvelpers promised everything. They said we could actually *live* in the StarWars universe. The did everything to boost expectations, and it somehow remind me to Black&White. SWG propably *is* a good game, but it is not as perfect as everybody expected it to be. If you're waiting for a perfect game and get "only" a good game, you're disapointed. And that's what this Mike is.

I think it is good to hear a voice that somewhat goes against the flow. This way, gamers will actually get their bubbles bursted and dont expect a perfect product. And they'll be much happier with what they receive.

Me personally, I stil ldont like those half-finished games to be released. Yeah, I know, MOORPGs are somewhat complicated and they need the money. On the other hand, Sony is not the poorest company, and I just expected them to be clever and take their time. They did not, and we will get a good game, which maybe will become an excellent game in some months. But I just would have loved if they had released it excellent right at the beginning.

Bastard. He doesn't know anything about MMORPGs and he thinks he can review one in the early stages of its launch. You guys are right. He doesn't know what he's talking about. I'm gonna see for myself what SWG is like when I get it.

I still want to hop on the SWG bandwagon. I've seen nasty flames before... That guy was just disappointmented. However, seeing that he had that full review posted today, I would say he was reviewing the beta. :P

Beta was of course more buggy and incomplete, not to mention day/night sync was turned of, yadda yadda bla, he was reviewing a warped version of the final product... If not, he played the game for an hour and passed judgement. Foolish thing to do, especially the day it was released.

Anywho, he has not shaken my faith. :D

Silent Whisper, that's true, but what if you trip and fall down every time when you try to walk through that universe?

Anyway, I'm not going to buy the game, because I think it's way too expensive. I'm happy with one good single- or multiplayer game that only asks me to pay for it once :)

For those that say they are wasting 15 bucks on an incomplete game: For us SW fans, this isn't just a game. We're paying 15 bucks a month to LIVE in Star Wars. 15 bucks gets your name in the SW history book. This is YOUR chance to travel the dunes of Tatooine, march through the marshes of Corellia, and fight your way through the jungles of Yavin 4. You are wlaking the steps of the same characters we have all come to love. You aren't just paying for a game, you're paying for an ultimate SW experience.

STFU everyone. Stop arguing and listen for a second. Everyone has way too high expectations for this game. The game is not perfect. No game is perfect. You may say the game sucks, but it may not be your type of game. Some people just dont like mmorpgs. A lot of them didnt know this till today. If you have always loved mmorpgs for real, the you are right the game is not completed. I could have told you that about anygame.

There are these magical files called patches that add wonderful things to the game. They also handle any bugs. I use to play Everquest for awhile, and I know how good Sony is doing patches. They can add whole new elements of the games through them. Just wait a little while.

One of the only reasons Sony releases it so early is because people wouldn't leave them alone by releasing. I guarantee all of the holes in the game will be fixed by future patches. It may be a little while before everything is the exact way you want it. "Rome wasnt built in a day." Have a little patience.

Edit: Who the heck is the guy who wrote this article. I have never heard of him. I have never seen that site either before. I could of written the same thing. He is just a mad loser with no life. I will wait to see a trusting review in one of favorite magazines PC Gamer.

Yes, I read the whole review. Let's show how big a dumba$$ Guru of 3D is:
Ultima Online was originally released in 1995. It had huge expectations, and ended up cutting 50% of the expected features. Everyone sat there saying "Blah, blah, blah, UO is going to fail." Where is it now? UO is now in a battle for second with Dark Ages of Camelot for most subscribers. Saying SWG was "the worst MMO release in history" is mindless drivel that only someone who doesn't know crap about MMOs can say. Have you ever seen WWII Online's launch? EQ's? UO's? AO's? Clearly not, or he would know what a bad launch is.

Maybe we'll see vehicles? EQ said "They were putting in cape visuals" for EVERY expansion to date. Did this drive their game into the ground? No. Yet again, Guru of 3D proves his limited knowledge of MMOs. UO said they were adding necromancy 4 years ago. It came in a few months ago. Did that kill the game? Mark down another point for Guru of 3d's limited MMO knowledge.

To summarize this:
Guru of 3D has virtually no idea what he is talking about when he speaks about MMOs in general. He has a limited knowledge of them but projects the picture that he knows what he is talking about.

It sounds like this guy had high expectations and his own idea of what Star Wars is supposed to be. Based on this guy’s review the game actually doesn't sound half-bad. I just don't have time to play it right now. However I wasn’t really expecting more than a cool sci-fi game experience. Nothing will be as good as the actual movies. And I’d never expect a game to make me feel like I was living in a make believe world from a great movie. All in all SWG sounds better than Animal Crossing, which I loved.

To be honest I don’t think JK2 is THAT great of a game. It’s the people I play with online that make it great. I think it could be the same for SWG. I haven’t played it though. So I can’t say anything.

I've read the majority of the review. And I really don't think he knows what he's talking about. One reason is because of what he said here:

"You have seen other Star Wars games fail, and you have seen others succeed. I guarantee you, this one has now surpassed Force Commander in the bottom of the pile for Star Wars titles."

I've played Force Commander and I was in the Beta Testing for SWG and SWG is no where near as bad as Force Commander is. That game is truly horrible and I'm appalled that he would even try and compare it to SWG. I didn't really see how long he tried playing the game either. Can you really rate a MMORPG untill you've gotten at least halfway through a character's skills? With other types of games the reviewer has completed the game before writing a review. Could you imagine what the reviews for JK2 would have been if they only played the first three levels in the game? There's no lightsaber in those beginning levels so its not in the game right? No game is worse than Force Commander.

You pick up a newspaper to read a review on Star Wars Galaxies from someone named the Guru of 3d. After flipping your way to the correct page, you find nothing more than a collection of garbage that shows that complete morons can preach their mindless drivel as long as they have a webmaster's password. Once he said, "It is the worst MMO launch in history", I saw that this person had little to no knowledge of MMORPGs, thus making anything he said comparing it to other MMORPGs obselete due to his miniscule knowledge of facts.

His "plethorum of bugs" fact... What MMORPG HASNT had tons of bugs? NONE. SWG actually has less than most, once again proving this guy is nothing more than babbling mindless drivel.

Yeah, looks like you either love or hate SWG. To me, it is a huge disapointment. Looks like SOny cant wait to publish the game. If they only would have taken their time... always same old story :(

Edit: After I've read the whole review, I change my mind. More time wouldnt help SWG anymore. Blast, why do 3/4 of StarWars games turn out to be worthless? Let's see what Blizzard is doing with World of Warcraft...
