Saber throw , a cheap move? | |
Ecomancer - ex-Student ![]() |
I have noticed that by default on the JA servers people do not use Saber throw in a duel. Is it so called cheap move and why? I'm referring to this text http://www.sirlin.net/Features/feature_PlayToWinPart1.htm that was posted somwhere on this forum.
It's obviously important part of the game and a very powerfull move. Actually saber throwing is not that easy move to master nor is it easy to counter once you mastered it. Why nobody uses it here since it is not forbidden by the rules? These rules that are not written down confuse me. |

Is this true about the 2points being better than 3points with the homing?
Shannon, being the resident throwing guru that you are, can you tell us which you use? .., I use 3 points plus force push and pull (as I was taught). Do both 2 points and 3points deal the same damage? _______________ May the ping be with you |

I've very recently become a fan of throw, replacing my full absorb points with 2 throw points.
I find having 2 points in it much better than three, cause with 3 the saber homes, with 2 u can manouver it, which I love doing, bringing it behind people and such. In a phrase, saber throw is l33t, and a MUST in FF duels. |

If throw is the most powerful force move (which I reckon is..) then most people will use it in an FF duel. Its not that I can't use other force powers., but as with Ulic website link, you should be playing to win. And not say anything if you lose. If you don't like throwing matches, then just agree before an FF duel. Most people would be happy to change their settings if they're fair. I failed my Jman FFduel because I kept sabre throwing the trialing JAT and I killed him. And was told I haven't master other force powers. That's just BS. And to be honest, a very scrublike excuse. But hey, nobody's perfect right?
I wasn't much of a thrower 'til Shannon showed me the ways.. hehe but it can be quite fun to have a throw duel once in a while. (I like normal sabre duelling too). happy sabreing ![]() _______________ May the ping be with you |

Thank you ioshee. Thats just what I was looking for. Infact it makes sense. You should learn to basics before trying anything harder.
This matter just puzzled me because I used throw a lot on pub servers(FF/Duel). This comment was edited by Ecomancer on Jan 15 2003 12:07pm. |

You have probably just been witnessing challenge duels (you know when you press your saber challenge button while facing an opponent and they accept.) Your force abilities are limited while engaged in those. Hence the name "saber challenge." A lot of people use saber throw in Full Force duels here at the Academy. I hope that helps some![]() _______________ One of the Belouve boys |

Well I personally won't call saber throwing a cheap move, since it takes lot's of skill. Anyone who fought me with full force knows, that I can easily say i'm very good with throwing. The proplem with a full force duel is, that it tends to be throw only. Either you throw back or you die. Well in most cases. So if i want to fight pure, i choose duel. If i want to win ![]() (And i'm challenging everyone i meet into a fair and humble throwing game) ![]() _______________ Falling from heaven is not as painfull, as surviving the impact. |

Saber throw in and of itself is a good move, especially for a light side Jedi. It is his only long-range attack. Often you will run into players who do nothing but run away and heal/drain the entire match, and this can be quite irritating.
Is it lame? Not really. Just irritating ![]() Back to the point though...at first, we all used throw in a certain way. We knew that if you throw directly at someone, it'll be blocked. So, we tried to learn to circle the saber behind them so it'd hit on the way back, or maybe hit them on the side as it passed. Or, we'd use throw when someone was swinging or doing a special, thus more vulnerable. But then we learned that you can use pull in conjunction with throw, to lower your opponents defenses and score a hit. Now, this works great with someone who is standing still...it's harder with a moving opponent. The best defense against saber throw is to not stand still, ever...and to not move in a predictable pattern. As soon as you see that saber coming your way, you should be moving. Yes, ping can be a factor, too. Therefore, if you are close enough to your opponent that you can't move out of the way in time, then you'd better be ready to score an attack of your own to compensate...either be moving in, throwing, or using a dark side power. Don't just stand back, allow yourself to get hit, and complain about it. There are tactics to counter absolutely everything in JK2...the hardest part is choosing which one to use at which time... But that's why we're all here, right? ![]() _______________ http://steamcommunity.com/id/citizen059 This comment was edited by Rahn del Sol on Jan 15 2003 10:25am. |

It's very likely just because I don't have points in throw at all, but I was pretty well certian that you couldn't throw in a challenge duel. I could be wrong, and I might test it to find out when I have a second. Now if you're talking about FF duels, I see alot of throw in FF's.
There are a fair amount of players I know of who are like me, and feel that there are better things to spend points on. Would I have throw if I had points to spare? Sure. Would I use it more often than I do now? Well, since I don't use it at all, once would count, but it's still not my style. _______________ spirit's searing pain battlefield of broken glass fallen speak to me --Charon |
