The ranks are good for showing what people know and who is eligible for other things like Knightship.
We could make it so that only Padawans could become Knights...I don't really like that idea... The system works fairly well for most people, despite it's problems. I would like to see rankings in different areas. I for one hardly ever play ffa, and I never play duelling, but that seems to be what most of the classes are all about. Put me to the trial in a ctf guns game and get owned. I'd like to see the one that refuses me knight or trainer status after that. |

I personally would, cuz how would we as an academy know if we were doing anything if theres no way to progress, its just like a school. You work your way through the grades, and either stay as an ever learning student, or if you pass, become a trainer. I belive it should be everyones goal to become a knight, if not a trainer.
I'm reminded of harry potter, all the initites/learners/j-men are just normal students at The Jedi Academy, the knights are the Prefects, and the trainers are the....well.....trainers....but yeah you should all wanna be a Prefect, or a trainer. -Dice P.S. if you don't wanna be a knight, i want you 2 be a knight. They're a way to measure my own level of skill, of achievement. Passing the trials is a physical recognition, saying, "Hey. I'm capable of doing this."

Of course i'd miss them. There wouldn't be a big point to take classes if they were to be gone. Besides the fact people will be able to learn a few tricks, but it would be more casual. _______________ Can you protect me from yourself? |

I don't know if I'd miss the ranks, haven't been here long enough to, but I like them. What about adding some ranks or "sub-ranks". Maybe have like the major ranks that are already in place but have "sub-ranks" of each of them. Like everyone starts out as an Initiate Basic or something like that. Then have like a minor trial to get to Initate and another to get to Initiate Elite or whatever you want to name it. Then once you reach the highest Initiate rank, you go for the regular Learner trial. Then have the Learner's ranks subdivided the same way.
I think that would be better. To my mind, it somehow makes it easier to differentiate who's encouraged, and who isn't.
JMan is only for the more sophisticated ppl around here, and who goes for JMan is likeley to go for Knight. i like the way it is...and defines what we are capable in a way. otherwise, i guess those chosen for knights would be only those most known upon the site...plus if there were no ranking the classes would go to hell as new persons to the JA would sigh up for Advanced classes and asked to perform someing like a red stance 3 combo finishing with a DFA...and they'd be like..um...what's a DFA....oh ok...can you show me how..oh wow that's cool...hey it's not working..i think there is something wrong with the server as it wont' let me do a dfa or something.....and so on and so on. and then the JATS would be angry that people aren't signing up for the right class and those wishing to sign up for such a class can't as it's full of initiates seeking to learn Advanced style movement and dualing or something....

I wouldn't miss them but I think it would be better to have even more ranks. That way it takes FOREVER to get to knight. First you have to be a moisture farmer. Then only if your aunt and uncle get killed and an old man wants to take you in can you become an initiate. Then there is super class initiate. Then Junior Learner and then learner and so on. I know what you're thinking, this will mean a lot more trials. Just let the lower ranks take care of trialing the even lower ranks.

I say that I would miss them because it gives each student something to strive for. Ive been in the academy 2 times once a while ago when it was just jats and jas and then now, and I truly feel that this is the better time because back then noone had respect cept the jats and there was no place for a student to go except for the insanely difficultt teacher position. Now you have the ablity to help those less than you as a j-man and you can actually teach as a knight, instead of having to wait till the Teacher position. NOw my goal is ultimately the same (teacher) but I feel that this gives more opportunity for improvement and goals instead of everyone from someone who had joined 2 days and 2 months ago in teh same group. |

My fear is that this is why people are demanding trials...they want to be higher than other people. Ego trip, if you will. I wouldn't really miss the ranking. well ranks can make a difference.
but remember, its not the be all and end all of everything, call me bitter or whateva.., but i've decided not to take any trials anymore, unless it just so happens that some JAT/JAK feels like trialling me. My goal is just to be the best duelist using all weapons and powers (haha, i'm pretty crap right now though).
so just as with the main rules of the academy, respect all, whatever rank they hold. Even JAT should show respect and not abuse their powers. I'm not afraid to say this, because it is evident that they can act immaturely too. But hey, in the name of fun.,. we're all competitive powermongers afterall.... _______________ May the ping be with you |

would I miss the ranks? No, I would not. But if the lower ranks were to disappear, then what will happen to the knights? They will probably be relieved of some work, since people won't bug them for trials, but how would you select new knights? with the current ranks, it's easy to see who is eligable, but if everyone is ranked equal, then you'll have a hard time figuring out who's good/nice/sexy enough
