Hey, with a war in Iraq comming up, I just wondered what you guys have got to say about Bush and his war-politics. I personally think Bush is goin way too far with his war-on-terrorism.

You are right Exar. After Bush kills all the Iraqis he will help the emporor hunt down and destroy all the Jedi. But then we can always look forward to some kind of "New Hope" or something.

The reason for this whole conflict is one man, one man only , Saddam Hussein.

If I was Saddam (just pretend for a minute!), I would sit in my strongest bunker with all my chemical weapons and nuclear weapons and biological weapons aimed at my nearest enemies, (eg Israel, US Forces, Saudi, Kuwait, maybe Iran, Maybe Egypt) and think If I am going down , I am taking the f$$#$#s with me.

Forget fighting a war , I would do that on Day 1 , since I am going to die anyway , go out with a bang!

and that is, my friends, why there should be no war!

It will all end in tears.

Woo:looks at shiny platnim medal:
There is the ocassional argument that if the U.S. did go to war they may lose.Think about here are just a few reasons the americans are on difficult terrain its not like the gulf a clear canvas were the americans superior technology will defeat them easily.Secondly the americans will need to avoid destroying sites of heritige, arcelogical worth etc

Every contributer to this thread should be given a medal.

[Gives out medals]

And all I will say is that a war between America and Iraq will be dangerous because :-

The US has a huuuuge amount of firepower in the gulf and will try and kill the enemy from distance . This increases the chances of innocents dying and Saddam surviving (in my view)

Saddam is like a mad dog that is in a corner and surrounded by dog-catchers. The dog catchers (Americans/US) need to take it slow, calm the animal down and then capture the animal with causeing as little damage as possible. REMEMBER, a cornered animal will be unpredictable , extremely dangerous and will use ANY method to get away from danger, Repaeat :ANY METHOD.

just want to thank Colonl d on 1bigcommunitys, civilization forum for this info.
this was posted to ask what had lead to Saddam invadeing Kuwait, turns out that Kuwait was stealing Iraqi oil by slant drilling on the border
________________________________________________
Quote Colonel D Civ forum 1bigcommunity

The slant drilling by Kuwait is true. See the article ''The Joys of Brotherhood'' written in The Economist dated 30 July 1990. Hussein had a LOT of legitimate reasons to be angry with Kuwait. Not only were the Kuwatis stealing oil, they were demanding repayment of their portion of over $10 Billion Iraq had been loaned to fight the Iranians to ''stop the Iranian Islamic Revolution'' from spreading to the rest of the gulf states.

The Kuwaitis then broke their agreement with OPEC (only three weeks previously) and began over-producing oil. Every dollar lopped off the cost of a barrel of oil cost Iraq another billion dollars in oil revenue.

So, Saddam was broke and his brother Arabs were stealing from him, demanding payment on loans and making it tougher for him to repay his loans by driving down the cost of his oil. I'd have been angry, too.

DJ your a tough cookie. :D

Sniya, you hit on something earlier, and also now we have the added dimension to the conversation about weapons of mass desctruction.

You say you don't want a war, that it should be avoided. I agree. Consider this though, the whole reason we are having a problem with saddam is because HE invaded a foreign nation (Kuwait) and they asked for help. Yes, Kuwait did ask us for help people.

Saddam is willing to do anything. War can't be avoided with this man because it's what HE wants. If he didn't want to be at war he would have been cooperating all this time with the UN. Instead he's been fighting this whole time to keep weapons in his hand so that he can go after somebody else.

I seriously consider Saddam to be of the same mindset as Adolf Hitler, he is a fanatic and unwilling to allow others to live in peace. I don't want a war, but you can't back down from one either in the face of a man like this.

Should we go to an actual war? (More than bombing targets in the no fly zones like we've been doing for the past decade) Hell no. Want to piss off every arab on the planet with a pre-emptive strike? Hey start a war!

Is Iraq stockpiling weapons of mass destruction? Most liekly, although I have yet to see DIRECT evidence of it (empty old shell casings don't count). I firmly believe that we should not attack Iraq unless:
a) we are attacked first.
b) it is art of a completely UN endorsed strike where other countries pull their share of the manpower and supply.

We Americans were raised on the concepts of truth and justice. Throwing the first punch is NOT the way to get this done. Cooler heads will prevail.

But we'll probably go to war anyways. I believe that my President is a loathsome idiot, who will do anything he wants to defend his messed up view on God, morals, and the world.

I agree. Jedi keep the peace and don't attack for power and prestige. They defend right? So does that mean we should let a country who hates America make weapons of mass destruction. Then just sit here and open our mouths to try to catch the bombs when they come down on us?

If you are going to relate this to Star Wars then think of this. The council sent Obi Wan to investigate. That is what America is trying to do in Iraq, investigate. Why won't they let inspectors in? Are they trying to hide something. I don't want a war. I just think Iraq needs to give up its pride and succumb to Americas wishes. America going in to Iraq does not go against the U.N. agreement. As Kalheka said, that was one of the things agreed to at the end of the Gulf War. Now Iraq is not following their end of the bargain. In doing so they have given up their rights.

Gaba, insinuating that people are unintelligent because they do not agree with your views is an emotional response. A Jedi is above that.

I like Vaughn's 3rd alternative best. But it would have to be JK2:D

and i cant remember the name of it but a U.N. thingy that says that members of the U.N. must solve things peacefully.
Thats mainly why they needed a special U.N. resololution.[woop this is my 150th comment)

ok, here are three (3) suggestions on how to avert war.
1. arrange a conference. Sit down with the other person, and talk it over. Tell them what they are doign wrong, tell them how you think they should rectify it, and tell them what you want from them. They do the same for you. An agreement comes out (on paper) and you shake/sign it. Simple.
2 (less practical) The heads of the countries sit down, and have a good old Rock Paper Scisors match. Who wins, wins, who loses, loses.
and the 3rd
put them on a server on some game (jk2, cs, ra2, etc), and let them have a full out brawl.

Those are ways that could work, only im sure the 2nd anbd 3rd arent practical :p
