Classes are there for you to learn something new. It can be combos, duelling strategies, Force duelling, or just simply a fun class where you get to play something fun (Activity Session and TFFA springs to mind  ). You don't need to take them, but if you want to perhaps improve a bit, a class can be a good idea.As for the master thing; you don't /need/ a master. As the Holocron says, a master is more like a private tutor. You get personal training and a master can learn you things you most likely wont be doing in class. If you want to find a master there is this topic; http://www.thejediacademy.net/forums_detail_page.php?f_id=1921 but I recommend you go on IRC or the servers, hang out with the ranked (or students, an unofficial master can be just as good), become friends with them, and perhaps they have an open slot for you.
