I've ALWAYS wounder... What if some Jedi/Sith
made a saber short sword(which meens its bout coupel inches smalled than a normal saber)Although u may say "Why would I want a smaller saber stupid"Short swords in martial arts a underestimated cause of there small size but they provide VERY good defense(better than a long sword cause of small size provieds a faster reaction) and a preety good offense(not as good as a long sword tho DUH:P)So what I'm basically saying is that could be possiable cause what controls the size of a normal saber??So its VERY possiable for Lucas to bring that in..Mabey(if he doesnt die or considers doing it)Episode 7..

Do u think its possiable?

eh sared your wrong, the blade is pure energy and the color is just the color on the crystal.

The weight is in the hilt the lazer blade shoots out an arc of light from the crystal housing and forms a blade, the weight is in the hilt :)

Lucas has approved the concept. If you play Knights of the Old Republic, you can use short lightsabers, which is recommended for a dual-saber stance. I am surprised that they did not shorten the lightsabers in JA for the dual saber stance. One faces serious dexterity penalties for using two regular sized ones.

But I think it is the intention of LucasArts to have the dual saber stance use sharter sabers...great, fast defense, and loss of offense is offset by having two of them.

BTW, I have trained in Real Life with twin sabers, but use two wakazashis, instead of two katanas. So sharter is better for this, by far.

On a side note, the martial advantages of a short blade are its lighter weight and, presumeably, its speed and quickness over a normal blade. Now, with this knowledge, let me point out that the lightsaber is, in reality, a very difficult weapon to master. The main difficulties being that the handle is the only weight, and that the blade itself has no weight or mass, and thus has no air resistance, so a shorter blade wouldn't nessaceraly be advantageous over a normal lightsaber.

Now, on a seperate note, a shorter lightsaber WOULD catch an opponet off-guard and would provide a much quicker technique because of the lower risk of the Jedi weilding it accidently slicing thier hand/arm/leg off. Go look up the name 'Nomi Sunrider' on some Star Wars dictionary site. She was an Old-Republic Jedi who weilded her fallen husbands lightsaber, whos blade was only half the length of a normal lightsaber.

In star wars knight of the old republic you can kill dark jedi and get their short sabres. So yes it's possible to have short sabres. Mind you that was oh 4000bby but hey normal sabres and sabre staffs existed back then too. (Bastilla, Darth Bandon, Darth Malak)

I would love it in the game!!!

but think it would be very hard to create, the advance of a shorter saber is more accuracy and speed. so they should create a total new "style" for every lenght. as you also want to keep blue, red and yellow and you want four different lenghts that will mean you have to make twelf different styles. very much work. and what should you change in the style, if you only make the shorter swords faster it'll give much provit in the attack 2. and that's not what we wanna have...

for the movies i think they are not making larger or shorter very much bcuz it doesn't look cool when someone is using a short saber. the nice thing about the "jedi way of fighting" is that they are not moving very fast, it all seems kind of piecefull. when someone is having a very short saber the moves got to be way faster. and if they are getting faster also the piece will leave. another thing is that it seems less powerfull when a saber is very short, some people might think that the guy has a short saber becuz he can't handle a big one, so that's why i think...

noooooo nooooooo nooooooo the default hilt design (which nearly all are taken from) have a turning switch on them which when turned 1 way makes it shorter and the opposite makes it longer, its as simple as that

yeah but usually when you switch the length it usually means to extend the blade.

It says on the Star Wars website that on some sabers you can turn a nob and it switches the crystals changing the length.

yeah the saber weight is all in the hilt. So you wouldn't really have a speed increase with a short bladed saber. A smaller size might be more manageable for defense but in most cases with a lightsaber you are blocking blaster bolts or using both hands to combat another saber. Any other melee weapon a Jedi is likely to come across would be broken by a saber blade. I don't think it would be all that practical for a short bladed saber.

except the light sabers weight is mainly in the hilt isnt it? the size of the saber then would only affect the amount of power needed. in yoda's case the energy that can be stored in such a small hilt may not have been capable of powering a full size saber efficently. so a smaller saber with a normal hilt would only have the advantage of more power (hey maybe qui-gon could have cut through that door faster), and a few more moves (less blade=more room). of course i cant remmember any of my lightsaber info (its been years since the books that bothered putting it in) so i may be off target.

If I remember correctly, wasn't Yoda's saber in Ep. 2 smaller than normal? Who knows, maybe they just did that cause it'd look weird for a little 3 foot tall guy holding a full sized saber :P. Though, a kodachi style saber would be pretty sweet.....

Hmm, I know it is possible to extend the saber by letting another gem slide in (so you get 2 instead of 1) as Corran Horn can, but dunno about making it shorter.
