Quote: I don't know if this has been asked before, but: I can't be sure but I think TweakUI tool will be able to extend the playing time of startup audio. If that doesn't work I would recommend you trying one of the many shells there are out there. I had one that featured the Matrix and it played music from the movie constantly, so there has to be a fix for your problem.I have windows XP and i have changed the startup music. What i want to do is extend the length of time allowed because it keeps chopping off the end of the tune... I will bounce it off the collective here at the helpdesk and see what I get back.... EDIT: The collective would like to know if you have the source file in .wav format? _______________ “Arguing on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics. I didn't know that there was a limit on the length of the startup sound. If there is, I don't think there's a way to extend it. Sorry. _______________ Saving the world, one kilobyte at a time. |

I see this so much "Reinstall Windows" don't do that people, that is not good for your hard drive and the newer versions of XP require activation at reinstall, and eventually Microsoft will not validate your re-install forcing you to call them up 1-800-MACROSHAFT Now for the individuals out there that have problems that have a definate name attached <-----microsoft certified in the installation, administration and configuration of windows xp professional ie BROWNIE google search that thing down so that find out exactly what it is, if you have lost right click functions in XP you have been hacked! Games that freeze over a period of time and not at start up is tricky, you almost always think it is the code acting up so you re-install the game, when that doesn't work you update your drivers, then you re-install windows and it comes back. Now you are pulling your hair out of your head saying "I'VE DONE EVERYTHING I CAN!!" and my personal favorite "BURN IN HELL BILL GATES!!!" remove and reinstall your RAM chips, if it happens again, try it with just one stick, again swap sticks, again try new RAM also the best possible investment for your Windows XP machine is some kind of automatic and nearly automatic registry cleaner. I use Registry Mechanic (hope I didn't break any rules) and it is very good at cleaning up my registry, I run it when I uninstall an app, install an app and whenever SpyBot or Microsoft Antispyware or Symantec AV finds anything. Windows has always been that big kid on the block that has all the best toys and doesn't play well with others. It is the big boy on the block nonetheless and we gotta figure it out just in time for the next version of windows. if you can keep your windows install clean and organized it will last longer, but it is fallable and you will encouter cases that you will have to re-install but re-installing is not a fix, it is a new beginning and if your system is exactly the same after reinstall your error will resurface. good luck all _______________ “Arguing on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics. Quote: Basically, frequently (although by no means every time) on saber clashes (NOT locks) or other saber events, JK2 freezes, and gives me about half a second to alt-tab before it freezes windows as well. I usually get a freeze like this once every 10 minutes when playing online - I *really* would like some help in fixing this. mmm, personally (having gone through something similar) I'd say this is your harddrive malfunctioning ... but I can't be sure ... it's just a guess really. My computer used to freeze for about two seconds, it would work fine for a minute, freeze for two seconds, work fine for a minute ... my harddrive was kicking the bucket after four years of intense labor Its not the hard-drive, I've tried it on my two hard-drives in the machine at the moment. Alrighty, so I have an issue. I recently uninstalled a program that appeared on my computer called Brownie (how it got there I'm not sure, unless my bro or mom put it on while I was gone)....and since around that time (I also ran Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D) my ability to move things around Windows (XP Pro) has changed. I can still select copy, but it doesnt say PASTE anymore , and I cant drag icons around on my desktop. What makes this really interesting is that I can install games, extract zip files and such...but no direct movement. Port Forwarding is for inbound connections, and won't affect you connecting to existing servers. If the router has a built-in firewall, Ident filter, etc, disable all of that and see if it helps. Also make sure the required outbound ports are open. _______________ Saving the world, one kilobyte at a time. |

Hey guys, been tryin to play JA and BF1942 and things for a while, but ever since my parents got a netgear router, I've been unable to play. Every minute or so of gameplay my connection freezes up for 5 seconds or so, then I'm back for another 60 seconds or so...that doesn't cut it for me I just tried using netgear's portforwarding thing for the ports that JA servers use, but that didn't help (I don't even know if that was the right idea). Anyone got any ideas? Thx |

Quote: The Linksys web site has detailed instructions for setting up a static local IP and port forwarding. Uhh.. Am I supposed to forward my port or something? I don't get it >.< When you're behind a Linksys router on which you have not changed any of the settings, you're assigned a random, constantly changing local IP address ("dynamic IP", assigned by the "DHCP Service", and all incoming unsolicited traffic is blocked by the router's firewall. To allow traffic (i.e. connections to a game server) through the router, you need to configure the router to keep your IP address constant ("set up static IP", and tell it to send all data that arrives in certain ports to your computer (we say that the router "forwards" the data on that port to your computer). The Linksys web site and, to a lesser extent, the manual that came with your router, have lots of valuable information on how to configure those two things on your specific router model. For Jedi Academy, you can choose what port you want server traffic on, but the default is UDP 29070. Also make sure that one or more Master Servers are set in your server.cfg, or your game won't send its data to the public server list. _______________ Saving the world, one kilobyte at a time.
