Ok Here's a post with some usefull links. I will keep updating this as needed.

If you don't know about this site and you are a Windows User you need to know about this. This site will patch your os with any of the bugs in any Windows OS.
http://www.windowsupdate.com

A good piece of software to have. This will scan your computer for any kind of spyware that any freeware or shareware program that you download and install.
http://www.lavasoftusa.com or you can try spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
*NOTE* Don't have both installed or they will say each other is spyware. I like spybot better.

A good free anti-virus program.. If you don't have a anti-virus I recommend you do.
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php

This site is good for information on ISP's(Internet Service Providers). It alos has a great little toolset for testing your internet connection and the forums are helpful for tweaking your pc to get the most out of your connection.
http://www.broadbandreports.com

Do you have windows XP or 2000 and a great video card? Seem to be stuck at about 60FPS, even though you say like com_maxfps 120? Simple fix http://www.ryanmh.com/files/reforce.zip is a fix for a Windows Bug that locks your frame rate at 60 fps when you can get higher. All you do is unzip that run it, click auto populate, hit Apply and reboot and boom FPS allover the place :)

Over the last few days my internet connection has recently started interupting my gameplay of JA whilst online with the message 'Connection Interupted'.

I have no idea why it does this and it used to be fine. My ping is normal until I get this message, it shoots up to 999 when I do.

I was just wondering if anyone knew why this might be happening?

I would post this on the link above, broadbandexperts.com but I thought you may be of more use as you know more about the game.

I don't know if this problem occurs whilst playing any other game online as I haven't played any other recently. I've also done spyware, adware and viruse scans but nothing has appeared.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Oh and I'm my ISP is Tiscali with a 512k connection which sucks at the best of times but shouldn't be this bad.

It also varies, sometimes it happens often but sometimes not too often. And best 20 mins and worst every 5 seconds (literally)

Last year I installed a new graphics card to play Jedi Academy. My computer has two places to plug in the monitor. One of for the onboard graphics card and the other place was for the graphics card that I installed. So after I had installed the new graphics card I had to start plugging in my monitor into a different place. Lately my computer has been freezing a lot. The other day when I tried starting up the computer it kept freezing so I kept restarting it. A lot of times the monitor would display the "power saving will enable the monitor to shut off in seconds" sign and then turn off so I'd have to restart it. Eventually when I tried turning on the computer the monitor just flashed the "self test" screen. Then I tried plugging in the monitor into the place that utilized the onboard graphics card and it worked, but now I can't play Jedi Academy and whenever I try to turn the computer with the monitor plugged into the place that utilized the other graphics card it displays the "self test" screen on the monitor.

Well, my computer sometimes displays the same notice at times. If I wait a while, it usually goes away.
Do remember to check if the cable is also correctly inputted in your monitor. Our power cable dares to get loose from time to time.

This is a question I asked a very long time ago but never got the answer to work.

I have old dos games that I would like to play on my pc which is running Windows XP home edition. The games won't work even when I start them with the command prompt. Does anyone know of any patches, programs, etc. that might be able to get these old games to work? If so, can you please name the cure and give instructions on how I can go about making this happen?

Thank you all very much ahead of time! :D

I wish. I started with Unix just when people were migrating from XFree86 over to X.org - current release was X.org-6.7.

On the plus side it looks like there might be some radeon drivers w/3d acceleration.

If you're okay with moving up to X.org 7.0 (the new modular one), then yes, there is a radeon driver with experimental DRI for more recent cards. Good luck if you decide to go that way though.

x.org 7.0 and x.org 6.9 share the same code, the only difference is that as stated above, 7.0 is compiled as modules.

I'd probably not notice any difference since x.org/XFree have been build in pseudo modules on FreeBSD for ages now :D

It's been a year or two since I've seriously tinkered with that kind of stuff. I doubt I'll invest much time & effort into it considering that the old HD my FreeBSD installation is on could crap out at any minute and make for a big waste. When I can get my hands on a drive with a better life expectancy I might go for it.

Problem with sorting out these kinds of things on *nix is it makes working with the comp too much of a hobby. It's fun but the system becomes an end in itself. :)

Gotta put a PS here: I didn't realize by 7.0 you meant "X11R7.0"! I can't believe my eyes! It never occured to me that an X11R7 was even possible. X11R6 was a fixture of the heavens like the moon and stars.

Yes my driver's in there: 9500 and above.

From what I read Cedega ia broken on FreeBSD though that was for 5.x and I don't know if it's been fixed yet.

I was afraid the card was going to be a problem. I had a nice Nvidia card that that worked great with Linux but it's fried and I'm stuck with this one. On the plus side it looks like there might be some radeon drivers w/3d acceleration.

Thanks TM.

Is it possible for me to run JKA, as a playable game not just a server, on FreeBSD? I'm using an ATI Radeon 9600 SE vid card. I'd prefer not to do it in Linux compat mode but am willing if necessary.

WINE will run it quite nicely without Linux compat; however, due to your choice of video card vendor, your video settings will have to be quite a bit lower than in Windows. I have a 9600 XT and have achieved decent results on Linux with WINE and JKA at mostly medium settings. You may also have to "work around" some copy protection issues in the WINE driver. If you don't mind using Linux compat and paying some money, Cedega provides a slightly better gaming experience than WINE.

Do you guys have any ideas?

try reinstalling firefox. you wont lose any info other than 'cookies'.

Lol, nope, that wont help, its only doing it through firefox because firefox is my default browser. Its this spyware on my computer that is at random times opening websites, nothing to do with the browser itself S:

Right, well, whilst attempting to install Microsoft Visual Studio (for the C# and J# compilers) I was informed I had to upgrade WinXP to SP2.

No problem, I thought, I'd been lazy up until then and hadn't installed SP2. So I went through everything, installed SP2 - great, rebooted. Ran the installer again and it said I still needed SP2. Checked the version info in My Computer properties - and it still said SP1.

So I reinstalled SP2... same problem.

I've tried it several times now, and I can't get it to say SP2 (even though all the SP2 features have been changed/installed).

Any ideas? I really need at least the C# compiler to work.
