Take a 2nd look at the new saber fighting of JA

People are expecting to come into JA with all the skill they had in jk2. This is not going to happen. I still remember my first days on jk2, and I how bad I was and how inconsievable it was how good others were. It tooks me 4 months to gain the skills to make me at least a decent opponent.

Its going to be the same for this game as well. And we should all be lucky because we are part of the Jedi Academy, where we can pool our resources and help each other master this new game. Everyone is a Noober in this game, even Luke who RULED!!! in jk2 is converted to noobness, everyone must accept this and try to work together to learn this new game.

Something that I have noticed about the duels of JA is that counters seem much easier to do. Which leads (or should lead once people get the hang out it) to much more defense and technical duels. I don't think that spamming attacks was ever the way to go, and its even more apparent in JA.

I have found that whenever u make a block or parry animation with ursaber that enables you to do a quick autocounter. THis animation happens quite frequently with 2 sabers (since raven did state that it would be more defense a style), and even with 1 saber it still happens often. Countering with a quick red downhack is devestating as we all know.

Hopefully this helps out, probably it doesn't, but remember we're all noobs now, and we're all in the academy to get better and help others.

Jake i think ur playing a different game then me cause the counters are not hard at all to do now, and sabers can def do the job, but as you said a noob can't. It takes skill to use the sabers now, not just downhacking with red.

Also when i said animated move, I meant that the block animation, like in 2 sabers when u bring them to make a cross as someone attacks you, when this happens you can auto counter.

And yes Luke was a creat dueler, and you should probably know I spent most of my time in duels as well, and this advice is, you guessed it, mostly for duelers. In one on one duels, countering is very important now, and spamming red downhacks isn't going to win, and either is spaming staff or double attacks.

As for ctf and siege, and whatever, yes i can see that sabers might seem weak, since u can no longer just wack people a few times and die, but again the game has been out for just a few days and even those that consider themselves "l337" are now N003s.

Agreed. The animated moves are powerful, but only if you are "caught" by them. Really, you can see an animated move coming most of the time. Just like after a while you could see a RDFA coming, you'll start to see how to avoid these. So I think that once people learn to see the special moves coming, things will balance out, and you will have really enjoyable duels. Not any of these, bow, walk out, get hacked by a Kata. I hated catching an RDFA right off. But you can learn to avoid them, you'll learn to avoid these.

And like the RDFA of past, if one does NOT get caught in the special power attack, then you can get in a good counter (like lunging to counter the RDFA in JK2). The dual saber shield is easy enough to get around if you don't get caught in it right away.

So far, I found that doing the spin combos (to do two full spins) with most any stance (haven't tried staff) will work better than a special. You can catch someone as you swing around, and keep the saber IN them, they die quickly. Dual sabers are good for this, but I found it to be just as good with single blade.

Jedi do not fight for peace. That's only a slogan, and is as misleading as slogans always are. Jedi fight for civilization, because only civilization creates peace.

I tried close up counters with me mate, they're pretty tricky to do now. Throw counters still work, and turn the thrown saber off almost every time. Don't think you can do em with guns (you could in JKII :D)

I don't think you quite grasp the concept Funaz. Its not that no one has any skill or doesn't know enough, its that the sabers simply don't do the job. In JKII even if you were a n00b, 2 red downhacks would kill someone. Theres simply nothing in JK:JA which does enough damage (except the katas and other animated mvoes, but you can't rely on ONE move to get all your kills)

Edit: on a side note, yes Luke was good, but he was a good 'Dueler'. He may not have opinions on the other elements of the game, but that doesn't make them less important.
