Beating Staff Forward Butterfly | |

How do you beat the most whined about move in the game? Its so easy, but you just have to unlearn what you think you know. Hardly anything can penetrate it mid flight, so should you just stand there and take it? Patch we need a patch... BAH!! The simplest and most effective way to beat the staff is to not let it hit you LOL. If you stay on the ground, you are going to get eaten by it, so jump out of its way. This is the RDFA under a different form people and we all knew how to avoid that. Butterfly is even easier to avoid because there is little surprise in it coming. Its pretty simple to stay away from it if you know that you can't beat it mid flight. Wait until the guy slows down into the slow roll at the end and nail the sucka! The worst thing about the forward butterfly is its a full 3 second commitment on the part of the staff wielder. Once begun there is no way out. Be patient, and strike with accuracy when he is just about to come out of it. My favorite thing to do to a butterfly spammer is to keep jumping over him until he gets bored, then wallup him with a good move on my end when he tries to attack without it. _______________ Gone but hopefully not forgotten... |

A couple of times last night while using the staff myself I was able to block the butterfly as it was coming in. And once I won a duel by striking the opponent as they were in mid butterfly. It is counterable, but you eat ALOT of damage if you fail. Still need more experimentation. My $0.02... _______________ The Force is a powerful ally... ...and a terrible foe. |

You can use a heavy overhand slash right as the staff user does the first kick/large hop (You'll need to duck =)) and they'll hop over you while eating your overhand slash. _______________ Warcraft Uprising - Power Duel or Siege 64.37.104.222:29070 =) |

The person who initiates the butterfly attack has limited movement at best. The ydfa strikes him at a point where he can only pivot, not change his direction, thus his ability to move is irrelevant. The rdfa hits him while he's in the air, at which point his ability to move is nonexistent, so once again, irrelevant. Against the lunge, yes, he can move, but tell me: Why would you do the attack at someone if you weren't going to try and hit them? For those of you who don't user single sabers... SUCKA! _______________ © This comment was edited by Carve on Oct 02 2003 11:55pm. |

Backflip away from them in a straight line. When they finish the last slow spin, hit them with a lunge. Instant-kill. Also, you can defeat it while they're in mid-air. Do an rdfa and look straight up when you do it. Similarly, the move does two bounces originally like so: /\_/\ When they're at that low point in the middle, hit them with a ydfa from about 3 character lengths away and they'll jump right into it, but you're safe from damage. [edit: No move is uncounterable. If all you can do is dodge a move you haven't investigated the possibilities enough.] _______________ © This comment was edited by Carve on Oct 01 2003 03:23pm. |

I usualy try to do a roll stab right when they have completed the move... Yeah its tricky to time.. but if ya can predict where the move will stop, ya should have enough time to nail em in the side before they can escape. _______________ "Do what must be done...Do not hesitate; Show no mercy!"
