It has come to my attention by some students, that it is ok to curse at people, just as long as you dont spell the word out. Ex: "You stupid a$s" That is NOT acceptable. As the rules state, alittle cursing is ok, but not at anyone. Ex: "Damn, I wish I could do that combo correctley" I believe that is ok. So, just keep it clean.  _______________ |

there can not be any argument about the rules. when you signed up here, you checked a box that said "I have read and agreed to the rules (with a link to it)" or something to that effect. so nobody should be saying "i didn't know" or "i don't agree with this rule" to get away. because if you do say that, then you lied in order to get in here. and if you lied in order to get in, you don't belong here. so think twice before you pull out an excuse like that. that's all i had to say after briefly perusing the first page of comments. so if this has been said before, just shoot me. _______________ make install -not war This comment was edited by Bubu on Oct 09 2003 12:44pm. |

lol the media is the worst for making people do stuff, media love people swearing, it gives them a aggressive side, and bad news is good news in the media, video games have the charactors swearing, and movies, if ur 13+ u know ur gonna be watching 18+ movies ( R ) so it mainly comes from that, we cant stop this, its down to the people who rent the movies, aka the parents, or the brothers. i think swearing is a part of life, no one tells u to swear u choose to swear so in the end u can only blame urself i suppose _______________ If you add me to MSN, tell me who you are

I think this topic is dead, but still unresolved. Ya...I guess I don't read those things Aratan. But the fact that the rules are posted on the site means that they are available to all. It seems to me that they should not be optional. Personally, I would be slower to anger in IRC than in game. But most of it should not even get in IRC. If you wanna cuss a lil...Ok. If you're arguing, take it to pm. If you think pron is something to mention on IRC, I would disagree. If you really want to tell people about your addictions (pron, smoking, ect.) do it over pm or suck it up and hold it in! Or better yet, why not just leave RL out of it? (ok...maybe a bit extreme...) I'm glad everyone is on the same wavelength about this (vaguely, LOL..as close as ever, hehe): regardless of our personal beliefs on whether swearing is actually an issue, we recognise that some do not like it and therefore we do not in turn, right? So I'm gonna leave this topic before I spam it up anymore Regardless of the specific opinion held by the people who have posted here, none of us here (holds self up as *cough* shining example ) swear excessively, or even regularly. Not to mention that there are some particularly wonderful ways to cut someone down in English without resorting to swearwords....let us embrace the inherent cruelty of our language, people!!  However, I think it may be time for some of us to take a more active hand in this. I know I keep thinking to myself, 'Well, the JAC/JAT/JAKs'll sort it,' but that's definitely the wrong way to go about it, I think. If every student took it upon themselves to simply remind (not criticise but REMIND) those that are using excessive vulgarity of the rules for the servers (perhaps an alteration to the MOTD, C1?  ), then I believe (perhaps incorrectly) that much would change.It's our academy, right? Then it's like a co-operative firm...all members have a responsibility to the overall, and a personal interest in it's development. The problem is, do YOU read the license agreement before you accept when installing something? I doubt many people do. Whenever you have to check "I've read ____", I think most people just skip the reading part and check it. |

Swearing affects kids. It makes them swear. Almost no one starts swearing on their own. So what if they get it at school? If they're gonna start testing their boundaries with language, let them do it there, not here. Besides, any caring parent who sees a screen with even one F bomb, or a few curses is not going to be pleased. Might even ban the kid from the JA! An idea about laming and swearing problems. Just an idea. Why not add something to the application process? Why not provide a link to the rules/provide the in a scrollable text box on the page, then add a check box they have to click saying they read and understand the rules. In the rules reserve the right to kick people outa servers, IRC, or if needed ban them (or however you want)? Another thought, (maybe a little off topic) would it help if the Academy were a bit more selective? Possibly not...I know I wouldn't turn down an application.... But would it work? |
