OK, just in case anyone has missed the frontpage news in the recent problems, the council geezers have mentioned that contributions for a new JA server computer would be appreciated. It think that this is an excellent opportunity for us to put something back into the JA (I know that the Paypal link has been there since before I came, but I know that many people have a (perhaps justified) aversion to the damn thing... Just think about it...if this WAS a paid service, then you would have to factor in all the JAC/JAT/(and maybe)JAK wages, +the technical fixed costs, not to mention maintenance and additional services (TS, IRC...). Furthermore, most of us buy several games a year. Rarely do people spend as much time on a game as I have seen here...I personally would still be playing JO even if JA wasn't out, and without the Academy that would be unlikely. I have no problem spending £40 on a game if I spend this much time on it(um...$60..i think). However, like most people I did not pay the full RRP - I paid less than half that (hehe ). I therefore think of this as saved money.From where I am sat, I can see a 5 pound note (7 dollars-ish...silly americans ) on my table. What would I spend this on? My course? LMAO . Food? Possibly. Booze? More likely. All of these are important, but like most people I overspend on all of these.I sometimes choose to get new copies of books rather than wait for 2nd hand ones to come available. I often choose Gruyere instead of Cheddar (not as oily for cooking, lol). I have no problem in blasting £30 in an evening...and I'm nowhere as near as bad as most students .(plus, on a personal note, I may be raking in the money from Badminton coaching in a few months  )I have therefore decided to 'pledge' (LOL) this fiver to our resident DJ, and the services he shall provide....not those ones, Jello!. Join me, or die!!Hehe. BTW, as an aside (this bit has nothing to do with anyone else now...all blame is on me, and this is why I started this thread...), I think that this is an excellent opportunity to send DJ Sith, and by extension the whole JA, some pressies!! Have you got some tat that you're sure he'd appreciate? Have you got a picture of your ex-GF that you just GOTTA get rid of? Have you got an incense-infused candle from the deepest depths of Bristol? Or even (gasp!!) have you got something JA related? Can you make a memoribilia pot for the JA (he could always give it away as a prize!!)? A JA-inspired-tune? Post your ideas, or simply say 'I'm gonna pledge, and send tat!' if you wanna keep it a surprise. BIG FAT IMPORTANT NOTE!!! - As DJ so rightfully pointed out, not all of us are capable of pledging at this time (not all of you will agree with it, either, and you may have some good reason). IF YOU CAN'T - DON'T...No-one will think less of you, by any means. However, don't let this be an excuse. Just send DJ a mail (ooh look at the bottom of most JA pages!! Hey, here's an idea. How about a pledge drive with duels? The students agree to duel a participating JAT/JAK/JAC and if they lose, the donate $1. Wash, rinse, repeat. Or maybe we could hold a pay tournament, where half the participation fee goes to the winner, half to the JA? (Maybe less than half to the winner... lol) Maybe we could scrape in the money for a new server or two like this. It'd be nice if DJ had full control over the servers, and if we could seperate the site and the game servers. Something to consider! |

Having extra in the pot will not hurt the JA, Bandy-Boy We might get 2!! server machines, lol I know what you mean though...if we were a tenner off, I would chip it myself pretty quick... When/if the money starts rolling in, we can ask DJ to post some info (new thread??).
