Alex Howell's JA Siege Network | |
Alex Howell [JAS] - ex-Student ![]() |
Hi All, I was planning to start a Siege game, was planning to start with the Hoth Siege. I havent done anything else but get into the planning stage. The Siege game is going to have a max player rate of 16 players, its going to be password protected so only JA members can get in. Since i'm new and green under the gills (meaning I havent had much experiance), I would like anyone intrested to help out, I believe that we can get one great Siege gaming network up. I also know that JA does run their own Siege games (havent seen any though). The only problem for me is that I only have "Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy", I'mnot sure if this is going to effect those who only have "Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast" Anyway, I started this Forum so that we all take take part in getting this network up and running. So lets get brainstorming then ![]() _______________ - Alex Howell This post was edited by Alex Howell [JAS] on Nov 01 2003 05:04pm. |

OK, bad news for everyone. For some reason I cant get to host any kind of Siege/FFA/Duel. The data below is from what I copied and pasted from the Command Prompt screen for JK3. I get this everytime I try and host a Siege...see if you can figure out my problem, otherwise we are going to need to find another way to this JAmp: v1.0.0.0 win-x86 Jul 21 2003 ----- FS_Startup ----- I got no problem with that. I'm going to do a test run this Wednesday (5th) at 21:00 (GMT) Now, I wasnt quite sure which out of these two IP Addresses it was, so try them both. Dont worry about any Tom, Dick, and Harry who gets on it. In future the server will be password protected so only JA members can get on it. Thanks, I've found the IP address (thanks to your help). What I'll do is see if I can get a test Siege game going during this week, no password on this one, just to let me get the hang of it ![]() I'll post more on this later _______________ - Alex Howell |

One quick thing, before I answer your questions...some peeps like to have a quick peek at whats happening, or to talk a bit first....Auto-Join makes that difficult. Here we go! Buckle yer seat belts ![]() 1) Don't put even teams - we do tend to balance it ourselves, and it can be an irritation to be moved because someone has disconnected to reconnect... ![]() 2) Internet - we wanna play, ya know ![]() 3) Pure Server - Only allows you to play if you have exactly the same extra stuff as the server..e.g must have all skins used...this is closely linked with Auto Download... If you are using exactly the same stuff as the JA server (a good idea, until you're on your feet), then the best setting is Pure On, Auto Download Off... ![]() 4) Minimum ping is the lowest ping you will allow to connect (I think). Why anyone in there right mind would set this, I don't know...lol...just leave it at 0 ![]() ![]() 5) Maximum ping - Some HPBs (High Ping Brits....like me... ![]() ![]() 6) Max Rate - This is the maimum transfer rate from Auto Downloads....leave it at 0 to doubly make sure that no scum can steal your speed ![]() To your NBs, a) that'll happen, not a lot you can do about it, and b)...hmm...host address, eh? I can only help in WIN XP, k? It may work similarly in previous evil-dows OSs. Go to My Network Places, if it's on your desktop. Look for Local Area Connection...if it's not there, look for View Network Connections on the left hand side, and click. Double click on Local Area Connection, then click the support tab. The IP should be listed there... ![]() You are gonna run this dedicated, aren't you? You will have trouble playing and serving to large groups of people from across the world, k? ![]() BTW - If you want it to be slightly (very! ![]() ![]() /me is outta breath...cya ![]() _______________ Brother to HW and Kyp Durron, padawan of the almiiiighty NFF. First, i would like to thank DJ Sith (Jedi Council) and Khalek[JAP] (fellow student) for their opening help. OK, below is the General and Server Rules which 50% of it i understand. Anything marked with (?) means that I dont understand or need help with. GENERAL RULES-- Team Switching: Yes & No (we will work out who goes where then the Network really gets going, until then Team Switching is allowed) Maximum Players: 16 Even Teams: No (?) (I doubt in this stage we even need even teams) SERVER RULES-- Combat Rules-- Friendly Fire: No Allow Saber Locks: Yes Advanced Games Rules-- Auto-Join: Yes Server Rules-- Auto Map Cycle: Yes Enable Voting: No Dedicated Server: LAN/Internet (?) Password: **** Connection Rules-- Pure Server: Yes/No (?) Auto Download: No Minimum Ping: 0 (?) Maximum Ping: 0 (?) Max Rate: 0 (?) Reconnection Limit: 3 (?) There are also two problems which i've come across. 1) Every Siege game i've been in, my connection has always been interupted, will that happen with this. 2) I have no idea what the Host address is!. That about covers everything I know ![]() _______________ - Alex Howell |

Alex - don't worry about siege for JO players (Jedi Knight II).....siege is only a game mode in Jedi Knight:Jedi Academy....![]() Everyone knows I'm all for more servers ( ![]() I suggest that you host a dedicated server on your machine, password it, and then give the password ONLY to a couple of people you know....let them mess around while you have a look at all the settings and experiment, noting down their pings and locations each time....see if it's viable that way.... If everything goes A OK, then you're ready to take the big step towards semi-publicness ![]() _______________ Brother to HW and Kyp Durron, padawan of the almiiiighty NFF.
