The Jedi have been around for 1,000 generations as Obi wan said in ANH, A generation is 25 years. So the Jedi have existed for 25,000 years. Palpatine's comment of the Republic standing for 1,000 years could mean that its been that long since there has really been a major conflict. *edit* TheForce.net has a pretty detailed chronology going back a few billion years. I know I have it in a book at home. I'll look it up when I go home this weekend. It's one of the essential guides. Starts with the Hyperspace Wars, I think 2500 or 5000 years before ANH. I'm sure they mentioned something on the Force, maybe not who WAS the FIRST, but some of the initial people. I know it's out there. _______________ Jedi do not fight for peace. No, Yoda is nearly 900 hundred years old during the Prequels. In ROTJ, Yoda says, "When 900 years old you reach, look as good, you will not." From Ep. 1 to Ep. 2 is 10 years, Ep. 3 is only several months after that and the Skywalker twins are born. Between Ep. 3 and Ep. 4 is only 19 years, and give or take 2-3 years between each classic movie, thats only about 35 odd years. So Yoda was already well into his 800's during Ep. 1 _______________ I do not ask for your poor, or your hungry, I do not want your tired and sick, It is your corrupt I claim, It is your evil that will be sought by me, With every breath, I shall hunt them down, Each day, I will spill their blood, till it rains down from the skies. Saying Yoda was self taught is like saying Yoda was the first Jedi. Its my understanding that the Jedi were around thousands of years before yoda. Given his age, he might have been one of the founding or first Jedi in the Order when the New Republic was formed, 50-100 years before he was born. I don't know much about Star Wars beyond the movies, but I have a theory concerning Yoda's height.
