Ok, this is the deal. 20 some-odd years ago (1978) my aunt, who was 13 at the time, was brutally murdered by 2 teenagers because she "got on their nerves." They stabbed her 22 times, slit her throat, and then ran over her with a car as they left. The two teens were caught and sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole. Now, our state governor (Governor Ehrlich of Baltimore, MD) has decided to reduce the sentence of one of the "damned" to 45 yrs. My grandmother received a call about it last week and since then we've contacted every news station AND America's Most Wanted's John Walsch, to try and stop this event from happening. Another part of this "protest" goes towards Ehrlich's secretion regaurding the subject. There's a lot more to say about the matter that I won't beable to fit here so go to
"http://www.sunspot.net/news/local/crime/bal-md.murder14nov14,0,4745265.story?coll=bal-local-headlines" (<-- must add rest, auto link won't.)
Please feel free to give me your input on the subject. Tell me if you think the girl should be freed after 25 years. Would you want her to be if it was your family? Do you think she has had enough time to rehabilitate or is she socially screwed for life? Please give me your input and your responses may apear on the news, taking this matter to a whole new level. :alliance:

Damn man, that sucks. What I think:

I hate to say this because I'll sound insensitive, but I think you should make an effort to forgive.
I'm not saying they shouldn't stay in jail though, that's for sure. They belong behind bars.
But for your own sake. Rise above the problem. Transend it.

Now do you understand everything that I have said? Because if you don't, I'll kill you!"

I am really very sorry to hear that happened, Here are my 2 cents:

When it comes to such a way of violence (useless brutal stupid violence) I have my own personal experience with that so I say lock them up for life...

Of course everyone makes mistakes when they are young.
Things like petty theft, underage drinking, drug use, even violent behaviour such as the classic drunken brawl.
None of these things suggest a person could be a danger to society for the rest of their natural lives.
Brutal, pre-meditated and sadistic murder, coupled with a seeming complete lack of remorse, on the other hand would seem to suggest that that person is very likely to be a mortal danger to others for the rest of their natural lives.
Someone who has once displayed behaviour that extreme, has something very very wrong with them. And I've seen no evidence that being locked up for 20 odd years with other violent criminals, would do anything to reform them.

In cases like this, life should mean life. Unless solid evidence comes to light that exhonerates the convicted party, they should never again be allowed to join decent society. The risk is just too great.

I don't agree with capital punishment thuogh, for 2 basic reasons:
1. Mistakes do happen, even when all the evidence seems to point to a convicts guilt.
2. Morally, the state has no more right to kill someone than anyone else. Life really is too precious.

But locking up people so they can never be a danger to others again ? I'm all for that.
I'm even happy about having to pay for their upkeep out of my taxes if it'll prevent further un-necessary loss of life.

BBJ, I'm truly, truly sorry to hear that your family has been through such a horrific time and hope with all my heart that this moster remains where she belongs. Behind bars.

Best wishes

First of all, i really want to tell how sorry I am about your loss. I have never lost a loved person through a crime, or an accident. This shouldn't happen to anyone. I really understand your anger and frustration.
But nevertheless i have to remind all peeps who have posted before me, that the we are still talking about humans, humans that have convicted a horrible crime, but nevertheless humans. No human should be killed by another human. Neither BBJs aunt nor her murderers. Killing the guilty just lowers you to their level. This goes to all of you people who called for the electric chair. "Eye for an eye.." isn't the solution.
Vasper, of course inmates cost the state quite a lot, but always be aware that you are talking about humans, and not an animal.
I have to admit that I have no idea what kinda person this woman is like, but in my voluntary social service year, i saw how imprisonment can change some peoples mind. They are simply not the same anymore, and they do deserve a second chance, always keeping in mind that there are people who don't change their mind in prison at all. You have to decide from case to case and Idon't think that your governor is gonna grant her parole for fun. It said somewhere in the article that she has never apologised to your family. This is indeed a very disturbing fact. But imagine you making a mistake as a teenager that will affect your whole life, would it be easy to look in the eyes of the relatives of your victim and say sorry? I would recommend that you take this opportunity to relief your family from this weight and look for somekind of contact to her, to give her the chance to apologize and to give your family the chance to let the whole rest in peace.
I'm not religious myself but sometimes you have to forgive and your family has to finally deal with the loss and get rid of all the anger and hate. Otherwise the hate will kinda haunt your whole family for generations.
I do not ask you to understand my opinion, i just want you to think about what i said...
If you want to discuss this topic deeper, leave me a message on my profile and we will find a way..
Peace

No, I think, they shouldnt get the electric chair, because when i could choose betwenn that and jail for my whole life till i die, i would choose the electric chair
do you know rudolf hess, he was hitlers locum, he got prison for his whole life when he was, dunno, perhaps about 40 years old, and he got jail for his whole remaining life, WITHOUT or almoust without any contact to friends or other people outside! i think he was allowed to get visitors every 2 - 3 months for a few minutes!
and he didnt have the possibility to kill himself, cause he was guarded by watchmans all the time.
when he was ~ 80 he managed to kill himself with the cable of a radiator. this should show, that many people would choose beeing dead before beeing arrested for their whole life, and thats what i would give such cruel murderers, prison till the end of their life, without any contact to frinds etc.

i really hope you and your family get justice:alliance:

First, my condolences on your loss. I am truly sorry this happened.

I am not sure how to phrase this idea about how I feel people change after taking another's life. But, somehow I think that people who due it out of spite, anger or "getting on our nerves" have down right serious social issues. They should never be allowed back in society. Something in their head is wrong to think that killing someone is going to solve their problems. Fight it as hard as you can and every way possible. I suggest trying to find poloticians in the gov's own party higher up on the pecking order to give him some pressure. Write a letter everyday to the gov. Instead of writing letters go face to face. Organize demonstations outside his mansion to protest this ridiculious idea. Fight it you can do it. If you need something give me a hollar I will gladly help in any way I am able.

good luck,

That article also sounded like she has never really expressed remorse or apologized for what happens. Should you really let someone free that doesn't seem like they have learned anything?

Talk some harsh words 3th. Don't ever run for President lol. In case any of you read the article on it, it says that the girl claimed she didn't know what the boy was doing and was too scared to stop him, but while in custody of the police she had a letter sent to the boy telling him to say that they were on PCP at the time of the murder. That doesn't seem like she was too scared now does it? It's cool though 2 other news stations called us today and my mom has an interview with both of them so we should be able to get the message to everyone. :alliance:

that's an incredibly unfortunate reality of the nature of some humans. sad to think that teenagers could do something like that; and that similar things happen every day in the world. i would like to think that somehow these kids could be reformed and turned into decent humans, but after such a cruel act, i don't know that there would be any hope. and i know for damn sure sticking them in a traditional prison isn't going to do a lot to help make them better people.

if you take a life in such a cruel and intentional manner, then your life should become forfeit. maybe not death, but a life of slavery where your wretched soul can suffer while your body is put to some productive use.

i guess there is a chance the woman deserves another chance after 25 years, but i don't know enough about the situation to really say. i think you'd have to meet the person to really judge them.
