I don't know what anyone else was thinking, but when I said that I was EXACTLY thinking chess style ranking. Chess rocks, heh. :P

Well, first off, I feel that the JAK position (note: i refuse to use the word rank, as i completely deprives the definition to be a JAK of its true meaning, in MHO) should be for those that they themselves feel responsible enough to handle arguments, and refereeing on multiple servers. Also, it should be someone who is dedicated enough to the JA to make that kind of committment.

Secondly, about the dueling tree ranking system, would that be set up like a chess tournament, where you have a certain rank, and in order to move up to the next rank, you have to challenge, and defeat someone of a higher rank than you? It could work out, but the chess-style ranking system, I feel, wouldn't suit this fine organization of gamers everywhere.

Just felt like inserting my 2¢.

:). I think that ppl who are active in this community; they practise a lot, are interested things in Jedi Academy, in two words... Are Active.

I've been in Jedi Academy long, and I'm still student. That's my desicion, and I know I havent been active in Academy. My clanstuff keeps me busy (serveradmining and configuration for example).

I'm just happy to be part of this great community, where I can learn much new stuff and meet new ppl. I dont need rank to get known by ppl here and I know that I dont deserve rank either, just bacuse I'm so "inactive" in JA.

Happy fragging :D

well said Ranja...i think the idea of Knight being a rank is just one of those common misconceptions all newbies or whatever develop when they see their first Knight, JAT, JAC, or whatever. Thus we use the word rank as a way to convey that we respect their power over the general body of the JA, and to express that certain players here have higher powers than most of us students. However, that does not mean that we should forget HOW they got those powers. The Knights earned them through dedication, a trial, and a willingness to do service for the JA. As for the JATs and JACs...we can all imagine how long they have been here as dependable members of the JA, especially the JACs. That being said, we should respect them not because they are so-called "higher" than us in position in the JA, but because of what their position signifies in the JA, not because they have admin powers.

again, that's my $0.02

ooops sorry mate, read that wrong, I get where your coming from.

The admin commands, to be honest are pretty idiot proof. You only need to be shown how they work once and all it takes after that is good judgement to apply them. Thats why its attitude to make sure people will use them for proper purposes :)

Sorry bout mis understanding, I getcha now :)

I think everyone has read my post wrong. Please read it again. I'm saying the idea of a Knight as a Rank needs to be done away with, and that Knight is truly an admin position that requires working knowledge of the game. I realize that Knight is not a rank but an admin position. The whole part about the ladder was completely seperate. Since we don't have ranks, I was saying that if we were to implement a ranking system it should be in form of a built in dueling ladder where each person would have a score or rating. It had nothing to do with the admin position of Knights. Notice that I said, "If we are to have any sort of ranks," implying that currently we have no real ranks, all we have are admin positions. I definately didn't mean that we should change our current Knighting system for one that uses a ladder. I just hope that this gets read so I don't look like some kind of idiot.

A while back I was thinking of suggesting we explicitly state Trainer, Knight, and Council are admin positions and not ranks somewhere on the site, although I never got around to do so. Maybe it's already somewhere I just haven't found it. Again I did not want to imply that we should switch our current admin system to one governed by a ladder.

here here, just to go back a few steps though. What good would a dueling ladder prove ? Ok so you get the best duelers as Knights........hmmmm what does that do ? not alot. If someone lames on a server and you wanna physically stop em (without using admin powers) they aren't gonna duel you, you gotta have t3h FFA skillzorz!!

Its not about skill, its about attitude, its a hard life, and it is held in the wrong image. Its a life of service, not glory :D

my young padawan, it's not a rank. so quit thinking about it that way. it's a position of trust and responsibility. we as knights are trusted to be good upstanding members of the JA, always ready and willing to help those in need. calling it a rank makes it sound like we're a clan (we're not) and that JAK/T/C have nothing to do except flaunt their rank. we are busy people, but we are busy because we want to make this place the best possible learning and gaming enviroment possible for all of you Students.

so how about we stop referring to JAK/T/C as ranks, stop concentrating on how to obtain the position, and focus all our attentions on what we're all here for - fun and learning. :D

Time for the good, ol' routine! :D

First of all: JAK is not a rank you just get. :) Basically you have to help others, not be too selfish, be somewhat skilled (but this is NOT the most important field for a JAK, so no, 1337 players can't just go out and become a JAK :)), help the JAT/JAC's and perhaps most important, respect everyone. They keep the peace on the servers, assist the JAT's in class and help students.

It also takes some time before you can become a JAK, the JAT's have to nominate you and they will only do that if they think you could be a good JAK, and it takes some time for them to get to know you and evaluate you.

You have to get 1 nomination to take the written test and you must have 3 nominations all in all to take the trial (which is tough... have I heard).

Hope that helped. :)

PS: It will be up for revision soon, once I've been a Knight longer. :)

As a Jedi Knight, you have to dedicate more time to the JA, and basically we are here to assist the Trainers & JAC. Skill is not as important as ur attitude. You will have to appear to the JATs, then they will maybe consider you to be eglible to take the trial :)
