I think there should be a Permanent Thread for this subject, since a lot of people ask it, especially new folks :)

Just because you think you're ready for it, doesn't mean you're going to get JAK.

I think that the people who have answered before me have already explained it enough, but let me tell you something...

The difference between your average JAS and your JAK is that a JAS will try to solve a conflict on the servers with his saber skills, while a JAK will go diplomatic, and if it doesn't work, use admin powers to resolve it.

I wish I could tell you what it means to be a JAK, but I can't, 'cuz i'm not one. But stick around the servers, and you will notice the difference, as I have over the past.

Well all little bits help, even I noticed that, I thought I could do all the moves but I cant even make a YDFA on jk2 so I just practise. And just ask around at knights and trainers if they take padawans, Just seriously spam their profiles :P (do look out for Site admins :))

Sorry for copy/pasting, but I believe this has some relevance........

"First of all: JAK is not a rank you just get. Basically you have to help others, not be too selfish, be somewhat skilled (but this is NOT the most important field for a JAK, so no, 1337 players can't just go out and become a JAK ), help the JAT/JAC's and perhaps most important, respect everyone. A large part of the JAK rank is your attitude; if you have a bad attitude and no respect for others, you have no chance of being a Knight. They keep the peace on the servers, assist the JAT's in class and help students.
It also takes some time before you can become a JAK, the JAT's have to nominate you and they will only do that if they think you could be a good JAK, and it takes some time for them to get to know you and evaluate you.
You have to get 1 nomination to take the written test and you must have 3 nominations all in all to take the trial (which is tough... have I heard)."

The difference between a JAS and JAK, is a JAK gets to have Padawans, Teain them, start classes, get JK admin like Yin Yang said (Yin Yang rules!!!!) a JAS is a student, that means he has no master and is still training in classes. Hope this helps you understand a bit better :)

There are sith here. Some I know came from a Sith Academy. Not to cause trouble but to get better training. It's tough at a Sith Academy cause they're more interested in showing off and owning you than helping you progress. As I understand it JAK have to prove themselves to be trustworthy. You can't just become a knight because you can kick everyone's butt. You have to have the qualities. Help others, be kind, polite, and respectful to everyone and much more. Having a master doesn't make it easier to become a knight. It only makes it easier to get to know allot of people here faster but that can be done on your own.:)
