Good old Canadian weather ruins the day.

Good old Canadian weather ruins the day.

It was a day just like any other. We were glad that the super cold front that has been plaguing Toronto and other Ontario, Canada cities had stopped.

It was sunny and not warm but definitely tolerable.

I took off for the gym at 5:20 pm EST (-5). The weather was behaving. However, when heading home just after 7:30 pm, there was a bit of freezing rain spitting. But I had to pick up something to eat at the grocery store, not matter what the weather. When I emerged to walk home from the grocery store at 8:00 pm it was too late, a heavy freezing rain had started. The 15 minute walk home was far less than pleasurable.

I logged on to the JA website and left Ulic Belouve, my Master, a quick message on his profile saying that we should get together soon. I also noticed that my profile pic still had not been updated. Darn! I threw on some dinner and boot up JK2. I logged into the server to find my Master waiting for me, it was like Ulic knew I was coming. But before I can get out any word besides a greeting, there is a power surge. I smelt burning and my computer was not responding. I pressed reset and nothing happened. I almost cried right then. I saw that the problem was that one of my power bars had partially exploded. I disconnected everything from it, turned off my computer, fiddled around a bit and turned it back on. I skipped scandisk and loaded up JK2 to catch Ulic.

Ulic and I went to the lost temple for training. In the middle of training I started getting the connection interruption message and started cursing the KS server in the little French, Hebrew and Russian I know. But I happened to gaze down at my cable modem and to my horror for the first time in about a year my service is down. Stupid storm. I reset the modem and waited for a sync. It never came. I dialed my ISP tech support. (Not now, not when my Master was unveiling the truth of the force to me. How about 3 AM or some time when I am at work. Not now!.) I think I was one of the first ones to call because I got through in 10 minutes. It was 9:10 pm.

While I was on hold I had checked to see if my TV cable was still on. It was. Anyway, Mario who just loves his job comes on the phone and asks for verification of my account info. I confirm it. I tell him the problem, mentioning of course at the time I was in an important online meeting. Then I open my big mouth and asked, why is the TV cable still working and my internet is out? You can almost anticipate where this is going. Mario stated he did not know, but it could be just a problem in the computer network that handles connections. Then I ask how long until my connection is up? 24 to 48 hours was not the right answer no matter what Mario says. I shed a tear.

Sooooo I ate my dinner watching the “not connected” light flashing on my blue cable modem. (Boy it sure is dusty). After dinner, I decided to watch some TV to take my mind off of the situation. Joe Millionaire was on and my remote is broken and I was too lazy to get up. LOL.

It was 9:30 when I started typing this entry in MS Word. Joe Millionaire ends at 10 pm right? Not when you TV Cable goes out. AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH! !!!!!!!!!!

I give up.

Well the good news is that I have internet access at work, so I can check and post to the JA Forum in high speed during the day. The bad news is that tomorrow evening, I may have 56 K modem access to the JA server. So look for that 999 ping tomorrow, it will be me.

I am going to press save now. Because I know that the power is then next thing to go. You got to love winter type weather. LOL.

Darn, where is a disk? I never use disks any more. Maybe my wife has one somewhere. Heck, I will just burn it on a CD so I can sent it from work tomorrow.

Internet Access status at the time of this post:
The Connection came back up 10:30 pm EST. This post was made using it. LOL. Man, my ISP is sweet. I did however did miss my training with Ulic. :(

Later,

D.C.

This afternoon (4:30), a heavy wind picked up, and blew alot of snow and cold around. I got home by 5:15.

One...I think I have the longest post ever. At least the longest AVERAGE posts. (See one of my original "Is the War in Iraq really necessary?" posts. 3 Pages, single-spaced, in MS Word.) But his are good and long too.

Two...he makes for a great padawan. I can only imagine if the power went out in Milwaukee. We'd be floating in beer or something. I doubt we'd have riots, just everyone would be getting whatever beer they can get their hands on. The streets would reek of alcohol for months (oh wait, they already do.)

That started sad:( but then got happy:)

I'm glad you were able to stay patient through a bad day. It shows great character. And writing a post to alleviate tension is a good idea. I never thought of that. I would try it, but my life is perfect;)

LOL. My connection was out again this morning. But I think they are just doing some routine checking on the network. I am at work, so that is cool. Just as long as it is up when I get home.

Thanks for your support guys.

Heh,

It's not that big of a deal if you left during our meeting. I knew what was up. Also, yeah, I did just decide to drop in and see if you were there. Only now did I get the message that you left at my profile.

But as for the cable modem thing...I learned some legal tricks. They promise "uninterrupted" cable service. If it gets interrupted, they owe me money. And they HAVE given me money (or taken money off of my bill. Needless to say, they are VERY cautious in letting my cable modem down.

But Damon, don't worry. I have a solution to our busy schedules worked out, and it will be in your inbox soon.

I feel for you man! I'm glad everything turned out ok. I know when my cable went out it made me cry. Went through a whole box of tissues. On a brighter note I called the Cable Company and asked if they fixed that "little" problem and they told me yes. So in about 2 to 3 weeks... as soon as they can come out. I'll have my cable Internet again. So you don't have to look at me standing around like I don't know how to press the keys on my keyboard. :D Dop

I've had days like that. 3 times I missed out of Team Fortress Clan battles because of cable service drops.
