Sorry about my rapid departure from IRC this morning - my dad turned off the network hub which our Internet runs through because we had to leave for a New Year's Day picnic, without knowing I was using the 'Net. In other news, I may not be able to take as large a part in this project as I had hoped. The topic of physics came up in conversation today, my parents asked what I was doing the engine for, and I told them about the Academy. Unfortunately, neither of my parents are very happy with the idea of my consorting with who knows what sort of perverted, drug-addicted axe-murderers there are out on the WWW.  I'm working on that, anyway. I'll still have access to the forums from public computers, and I'll try to do modding and stuff anyway. More on that in the coming days. And Bail, this means I might not be able to teach you modding after all, at least for the time being. I'll talk to you about that next time I see you on MSN or IRC. As for the animation side of things, I'm an archer, so can help to make sure that you dont go screwing up the animation I'll have to apologize in advance for the fact that I will accept no less than a damn near-perfect Bow animation, and physics. I want these arrows to fall to the ground EDIT: I can skin, but not as well as I would like I'm going to see if I can get modelers and skinners from outside the Academy also. Programming will be mainly involve cleaning up existing bugs, adding animations, and adding AIs, and yes, that will be fairly intensive C/C++ with a side helping of assembly. Since archery is a fairly important part of any medieval universe, one of our first goals needs to be a working archer NPC with proper animations and AI. We'll also have to make up several new sword styles from scratch, especially since (assuming we're doing The Hobbit) Sting is "only a knife for a troll, but as good as a short sword for the hobbit". The existing saber styles were designed for longswords, meaning that only Gandalf and Thorin will be able to use them. New styles will have to be created for short-sword fighting. Another thing for the programming part: removing ALL of the existing weapons, and setting it up so that the player can carry multiple sword-type weapons, i.e. sabers, at once. And let's have a Gandalf NPC that uses his staff and Glamdring in the dual-sabers style (RotK, anyone?). Both types of programming (modding and game-scripting) will be needed, cmad. Also: anyone who wants to work on this crew needs to download the SDK, and preferably also unzip all the game pk3s (assets0 through assets3) to a convenient folder. What we really need now is a skilled modeler/skinner. And unfortunately, my computer died (yes, again!) yesterday. It's in the shop now, and that's actually where I'm posting this from, but expect a few days, or up to a week of me reinstalling Windows before I can get down to any serious work. EDIT: Wow, back from the shop already. Turns out it was just the power supply, so reinstallations won't be necessary. I'm still here, and won't be needing those few days after all. I can map and program, but what kinda programming you need? Or you mean scripting by that? Plz explain. (if it's programming, then I can do C, C++, Pascal and little bit of Java). ok, just in case that happens, I officially claim the position of G.D. of level design/mapping and programming (since the two have to work so closely together, and not at all because they're the ones I know the most about ). Jonny, don't forget to add Ulic, Bail, and myself to the op list on the IRC channel. Just came up with an idea to keep things more organized For each part of the proces (mapping, script writing, scripting and so on) we'll have a General Director or something like that, who'll overlook all... In case there is a staff meeting of some sort, and you can't be there, you can always give your work to the G.D. and he'll throw it in the group if you get my point I'd like to volunteer for the G.D. of script writing... Oh yeah, it's probably the most practical if only the G.D.'s HAVE to be at staff meetings since, if our crew will grow even more (which isn't bad) then we'll get a really crowed room, and it'll be harder to discuss for those that didn't show up (from the regular crew) we can just post a newspost on the lotr mod site to inform the other ones... what are your thoughts on this? _______________ Visit the Belouve Family Website! yeah, okay, agreed now, for the script writers (not the programming script) we have Ulic, me and Tarp? in this case we should meet on IRC, or on MSN or something like that to discuss the story, and leave out certain things and stuff like thatAnyways, for the other positions we still need people perhaps you should ask a JAC for a news item on the news page... And I'll try to see if I can find anyone to help so we'll have to set a time to meet at a chatting program to discuss the story and stuff like that anyways, please remember that I live in Belgium and my GMT is +1. So we'll have to think about eachothers GMT's too, when we set an hour and stuff like that... Oh yeah About the site who ever is making the site, could you make sure that it has some kind of admin acces, and maybe you should make us admins, so we can put things on the news page, while visitors can't. For an SP game, The Hobbit would be a great starter, not only because it's shorter, but also because there's far less choices for player characters, which means less nearly-identical campaigns to create I agree with the lotrmod.tk idea: Jonny, I don't know how much space AK is letting you have, but if we can get something going on there, we can set up lotrmod.tk or whatever (as long as it's .tk) for free to reference that site. The .tk (www.dot.tk) service does not provide you with web space; it simply sets up a domain name ending in .tk to reference a page elsewhere. lotrmod.tk could be set up to mean athenasknights.com/lotrmod, geocities.com/~lotrmod, brinkster.com/lotrmod, or anywhere else. Another possibility for the site is affiliate-hosting on a jk3 site: how would you like for us to be located at lotrmod.jk3files.com? For that to happen, though, we'd need waaay more publicity... which Jonny's suggestion of a permy thread (in the General forum? ) covers nicely.Ideas, ideas, ideas! Keep them coming!
