People seem to take it upon themselves to criticize people on topics that don't need criticism and act condesending, superior like they know the rules and try to act like their word should be rule. I'm guilty of this myself but its because i don't like seeing other people get pushed around. Who are you trying to impress people? "That isnt' the point of this thread.." or "Quit the arguing and stay on topic.." or some other stuff like that. Seriously, its sickening. It's amazing sometimes how people try to impress others to seem like they are the only responsible ones and everyone else knows nothing. Now this post may seem like one of those posts, but im not telling you what to do. I'm saying im disgusted with the behavior. And im not a hypocrit, because i admit i've done it too. Namely im talking about the student recommendation thread. It is honestly a bad idea, because people are waiting for one post that they can make something bad out of it, post about it and make themselves look better than someone else. I'm just sickened by all of this. Praise me if you want, flame me if you, post or don't post, i really dont care. Its something i want heard so i said it, thats my peace. I'm sick of seeing my friends and other people i dont know trying to have opinions and fun in a game getting struck down by attention looking, "superior" people.

I agree with Dante and all of you folks' here. Let's not compare us to other sites, because I already know we're heaven compared to them. But the only thing those comparisons will do is accept our current community instead of trying to better it all the time, which is the point, and threads like this give everybody a wake-up call, reminding us that we didn't get here without good communication.

Well, as for the people mentioned... I don't know if I'm part of it, I certainly hope not. I've always spoken my mind to people who I felt were being rude (honest not being the same thing), and often enough, that's all they need to get back on track. This thread is a larger kind of warning which hopefully reaches a larger kind of audience.

The main problem I think is stereotyping 'new people' (though all kinds of people are the victim of this kind of behaviour) and forgetting you don't earn respect because you've been on some website the longest. You earn respect because you deserve respect, something I reiterared in God knows how many gaming communities.

And I'm pretty glad to see this problem is being acknowledged by everyone (some people will know I already privately discussed it).

MY two cents. :)

~Ken

I agree with you Ranja but there are many ways to say ppl to stick to the topic. Depending on the way, it may seem to be a polite and reasonnable demand or a complete lack of respect.

Asking ppl to shut up and think and stay on topic is neither diplomatic nor friendly. I just think it's bad bad bad to treat ppl like if they were kids. I feel insulted when someone plays the role of the old 'i-know-everything-about-the-JA-so-shut-up-and-listen-to-me'... I'm expecting a lot from the oldbies and midbies since they've been in here for longer than me and they have lived in the JA following the rules and enjoying their stay. I want to enjoy my stay too, either in game or on the forums. So I do follow the rules with no difficulty as they're like common sense to me and I enjoy myself most of the time except when someone tries to look at me from above. Do I make myself clear and understandable ?

Telling someone to stay on topic is a perfectly acceptable thing in my opinion. If you want to have a serious descussion on a topic, and just that topic-why would you want to go on ranting about something completely differnt?

OMG DANTE, SHUTUP I PWN YOU! :cool:

;) Just Joshin Ya

While you do bring up a good point, some people do need to be brought back into line. These people, i'll use Monty as an example ;), are just keeping us on track when some of us tend to sway away from the point at hand. Some people won't listen to the 'Nice Guy' so some seriousness is needed to get the point across to them.

That's my opinion, and if you disagree, PLEASE i want to hear all of your opinion's on mine :)

I tend to agree with Dante on this. I noticed some kind of 'arrogance' from some ppl who have been in the JA for long and I can't see why they act like this while they support the rules and overall mood of the site which is supposed to be based on mutual respect and humility. Or am I totally wrong?

edit-- seriously though. if someone is trying to make themselves look "superior" to others on the www.thejediacademy.net forums....i think they have really bad problems...and should prolly call up Dr. Phil. that is all, carry on.

Dante, I think I know what you're taking about.. I've seen it and probably done so myself (don't remember any spesific atm)..
remember though, in some matters it may be necessary;
if an important thread gets spammed with meaningless posts (read: 100% off topic), someone have to bring it back to the topic again..you see? I say some matters, not all

but indeed, I see your point. I'll keep in mind what you say.
