I've seen enough of this Jedi's playing to know one thing. His knowledge taught at the Academy would help the vast majority of us. I don't know the official way for someone to become a JAT, but I say the heck with all the pomp and circumstance and give this guy the title and the class load!

Poll
Should Master Viper be allowed to officially teach classes and be a JAT?

There isn't anything stopping him from teaching people n00b, just not as an official academy instructor

What if the Academy had "Special Guest Classes" where someone gifted at the game could teach maybe a class or two showing their style? They wouldn't we JAK or JAT, just an invited guest to one of our normal class sessions. Many schools, universites, etc... do this to inspire and furthur educate their students.

Ok, well, what JJ said is right and Faded and Fizz. Most ppl BTW get their knight after at least a half year JA age, it's just a little something to make sure you got ppl who stay at the game I think. But I think Viper understands it all and is not going to take it the wrong way. Plz continue with the teachings Viper, it's good for a school to have ppl share their experience :)

Ok, let's look beyond Viper's skill. He hasn't even been a JA member for more than a month. Beyond this, he'd have to become a JAK first, which is only about 50% skill, and the rest is attitude, patience, etc etc.

Let's just say, if skill got you a rank in the JA, then by god, we'd have a bunch of morons up there. :P

It isn't even a ladder, or a ranking system. You don't have to become a JAK or JAT here, you come here to learn the game and make new friends. It shouldn't be your goal to become a JAK/JAT, and in most cases with that attitude it will get you even further from actually becoming one.

It's not all about skill. And it isn't this political kiss-ass game kind of thing either. You need to pop up on the student to JAK promotion radar, and there are many ways to do that.

Here's what JumpinJedi said about Wolfwood, who recently became a Jedi Knight:

Quote:
He blends a great attitude with skill, with a great way of teaching, and he's a genuinely nice guy to boot!

If you want Master Viper to be a JAK, you should recommend him in the Student Recommendation Program thread.

I wish Master Viper and his 'fans' the best of luck ;)

Its too bad many of us do not understand that is the way it is. I understand what you are saying, but only as far as I'm allowed to. Many believe that this is a skill based ranking system, but I know its more about politics than anything else. I'm fine with that, actually, so please do not take it the wrong way. All I was hoping for was to give Viper the spotlight for a day. Hopefully we'll all see what I'm saying in the near future. ;)

yeah, Faded has got a real point there.

we have new rules, you know, and only JAK and above are officialy allowed to teach classes.

No rule permits students from teaching. On teh contrary, we encourage students to do so. And we monitor these things. But posts like this create the intention of someone wanting to gain attention, which is not encouraging our thoughts on these matters.

teach away Viper. we love that sort of thing. if you've got something to offer, offer it. there is nothing anywhere that says a student can't teach. but promoting someone purely on skill is something that we just will not do.

I think I speak for quite a few people when I say that it would be nice to see a person in the Academy get promoted once and a while for truly exceptional saber skills.

For several nights, I have watched people on the server form a line to get a chance to play this guy. It was the most impressive display of skill I have ever seen at the Academy and I'm sure most who witnessed the events would agree.

VIPER or BlaCk
 - Student

I dont know what all the fuss is about, but I do know that....the time it takes to become a knight or teacher is totally acceptable, but that will not stop me from teaching the players my view of stances and/or way to use them. Even though some of them are quite different from what is being taught here at the academy.

My two cents
:)

Faded, how bout giving this guy a shot at it? Please put him through whatever trials you want, if he fails, he fails. If he needs to be a JAK first, maybe give him a shot at that instead?

well even people who actually WERE JATs in the first place, who left for like 3-4 months had to go over the trial once again in order to retain their rank *cough* I wont mention any names though *cough* *shannon* *cough* :D

try going to some of the already scheduled classes of our JATs. you'll learn something. i promise.

btw.. in order to be a JAT, you must first become a JAK, which doesn't happen for most people here at the academy. even rarer still is then going through the long process of preparing and proving yourself ready for the status and responsibility of being a JAT. it is a delicate and necessary process that we don't just "screw."
