Mmm, I agree spelling is important but this is not a vital issue, is it ?

Now back to the spelling of sabre/saber: when I was in schoold learning Enlgish, some teachers told me US English spells some words differently than the British English. Among those words there is for example: centre (British) and center (US)
A bunch of words like those are slightly differently spelled but the meaning is the same.

I think sabre or saber is fine because we'll probably understand both anyway :D
And IMO, saber makes for sense because of the pronunciation :P

Well, languages evolve. Some changes are welcome, some changes are hard to accept by people who think decent spelling is important (like me - 'beter als', anyone?), but it happens, and you'll have to live with it :)

I'm pretty sure George Lucas spelled it sabre in his original novel and scripts, but I can't seem to find my copy of the original novel to veryify this, so maybe I'm mistaken. (Does anyone have it? I mean the original print of the novel from 1977.) In The Empire Strike Back it is, indeed, "saber."

Fair enough, it's become acceptable and is even in many dictionaries of American English, but don't pretend that it isn't a new thing--I can remember when most Americans (the Army manual notwithstanding) spelled it "sabre," so for me it will always be a symbol of the laziness of those who got it wrong in the first place.

Its spelt saber, a contraction of lightsaber. A sabre is a completely different weapon. Its single edged, made of metal and has a hilt guard. You do NOT lunge with the back of the blade and you certainly can't DFA without a wire crew :)

I got a better, since there are to many languages and words already. I say we just get a standard one.

Which one though, English, cause we Americans already expect everyone to cater to us, nah

Some asian derivative, they have the coolest looking written language, nah

I guess some language most be the easiest to learn, maybe we should go with that, nah

I propose I make up a new universal language.

1.) Its based off English cause thats all, I speak.

2.) No word may have more than one meaning, nor can you have two different words to mean the same thing.

3.) Our alphabet, now has 20 letters, z, x, q, and a few other just werent used enough, they lose.

4.) Everyone MUST learn this language and speak it exclusively, unless they are, college wasting thier parents money learning some ancient langauge liek Latin or Spanish.

5.) If you are caught trying to make up new words without my consent you will be killed, with a "sabre" why cause it's my freaking language and I like that spelling better.
---------------

Now on to the whinners, who think this isnt the best idea since video games.

Q.) But in the above statements you contradicted yourself "X" times.

A.) Yeah, I know I did that on purpose, to see who would point it out, you will be killed with a "sabre"

Q.) This is dumb, this obviously isnt the best idea, ...............

A.) Yeah that person proably had more to say, but I stabbed them, with my "sabre"

Oh and last, if you actually wasted time reading all this, punch yourself really hard.
